That's the touch screen glass on 918.

LOOKS GREAT! But I sort of hated it as I need to use my eyes to look down to do anything.

But it does gives a smooth look over the crowded buttons look.

With the hunch back gone, it looks soooooooooo much sportier, I might even get rid of the FF for one depending on the HP level Porsche is giving out.

Oh dear! I have such a hard time with this car. I don't think that this car photographs well at all. I always prefer to see it in the flesh. There are angles (in the photos) that are quite nice, but to my eyes, this shape does not work on such a huge car. Interior is nice.

This must be the new interior RC saw for the next 911.

There is some connection to it, yes but I do not like the touch buttons with tactile feedback because they do not work as good as I would expect them to work. Maybe they are getting improved, I deeply hope so. Smiley Also, the 998 (or whatever) gets a full digital dash last time I checked. Smiley

This touch panel is hideous. It looks like our Kitchen-Oven... has the same elements.

Two things are bad: 1st you have to look at and you can't feel the button. 2nd you will have plenty of fingerprints on it... that looks ugly and would make me crazy!

    but this could be solved:
    - ugly fingerprints - depends on the finish of the surface - all smartphones are today with ugly fingerprints
    - you can feel the button with some reaction on touch (I have heard that they will use this technology)
    - you can display an overlay in the huge PCM which button your finger has touched (not pressed)

This is an example of the misapplication of technology. Now, to overcome the problems with this application, they have to add increasing layers of complication when a simple button or dial solved the problem better and more elegantly. Not everything needs to be digital just because it can be. Some things are better left analog.

Exactly Apias.... you have to add stuff to overcome other problems.... how silly!

Give a simple old fashioned switch and basta!

I have a Samsung TV with one of those touch remotes. I hate it.... we all hate it. You always need the light to see what button you are touching. Bought for 10 bucks a one4all replacement - much better.

Porsche was always "Form follows function".... they really lost track it seems!

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Tried the sort of touch buttons on the new Escalade and hated them. Nothing good about them, they don't even look good...

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

You are right with the new needed level of complications.

I'm driving for more then 5 years a Panamera and I have all these buttons on the center console. To be honest I have to look to find the right button. On long journeys I have played and tried to find a specific button without looking. I have lost nearly all tries.

A central controller like BMW have isn´t the right solution also voice control is not a good solution nor Teslas huge display. Maybe Porsche did find this time something suitable.

I like old style, definitely prefer buttons for temp control, wind speed, radio, etc rather than touch screen.

These functions should be accessible just by "feel" to be useful while driving.

For the rest of function that needed to be look and search on a touchscreen, they are not that important during driving and I don't care how they do it.

I agree . But , one of the biggest complaints about the curent model is the over clustered center console .  Hard to get it right .

I fully agree. Had a new Escalade for almost 3 weeks and while I really loved the car and the comfort, the touch buttons were sometimes driving me crazy. Touch screen? Yes. Touch buttons. NO!!!

Don't do it. I was so excited about getting my Panamera Turbo S and this car was really fun to drive. At some point though, I started to feel...old and I realized that this isn't the right car for me. BORING. The FF is a completely different beast, do not switch it for a Panamera. The novelty attraction will wear off fast. I made two major mistake with the Panamera Turbo S and the 991.1 Turbo S, never again.

And people complain that the FF is ugly!

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Camo'd obviously, but the Panamera will always be ugly. Just make a fucking wagon and call it a day. I'd rather have a good looking wagon than an ugly hatch sedan thing.

Agreed, but there is hope. The Cayenne started off really ugly and I think the Macan will help it get much better.

I don't think there is any hope for this segment of car. It's just not an appealing size/shape as far as modern culture is concerned.

A7 is ugly, Panamera is ugly, FF is ugly.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

I don't think it is ugly, but I do think its market potential is limited.  As a four door vehicle, the Cayenne is more useful and at least as comfortable.  There is a luxury sedan market, but competition is fierce.  On the other hand, Porsche knows its niches well, and will plan production to match it.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Don't really care how the Panamera looks... First they need to make it fun to drive and then they need to lower the price by 30%...

The FF design is a love hate thing. I love the shape most hate. What I don't like the the recessed rear light area but I could live with it because the car is so good, on another planet. There simply is no other car like it. I would have one right now but can't let go the manual 612... Anyhow the facelift is supposed to fix a lot of the FF design elements...

The A7? Boring. And they botched the Continental GT exterior redesign,

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Lol, that highly sculptured rear lights area is the one I liked the best. It's very Italian, very bold and iconic. Very different than every other car where the designers went generic and just slap some lights onto sheetmetal.
