Re: 718 Boxster
No doubt that the new 718 will drive well and be boring as RC mentioned (turbo effect). Charm is partially gone and the new front is too pointy. I feel the 991.2 is better resolved.
Makes me feel even happier with my GT4, part of the appealing is gone with the 4 cylinder Turbo.
And as a minor demonstration of the new Porsche pricing policy, items in the 981 that had no extra charge as the 64 liter tank and smoker package are now priced as extras...

Futch:Boxster and Cayman now with 4 cyl Turbo? Seriously??? Man I should have really bought spyder...!
We discussed the 4-cyl. switch many many months ago and yes, you should have bought the Spyder.

KMM:As compelling as the new styling is (setting aside the vents), $90K for a 4-cyl car, albeit a well-equipped one, is hard to swallow.
Well, I thought Porsche already learned this lesson with the Cayenne S, GTS and the Panamera S but apparently...not. 
Maybe they are hoping for customers not to care anymore at some point? Maybe they think that people won't take a closer look at the tech, as long as the power is OK? Maybe they think they can convince people with test drives?
I don't have a clue but I can already see people making a different choice because a 4-cyl. is just not "good" enough for them in that price range. Time will tell...
At least Porsche was clever enough to give the new 718 a substantial power boost (35 hp) but I'm not sure it will be enough to convince potential future customers. Just imagine how much a future 718 Boxster GTS will cost...120k EUR and more for a Boxster have suddenly become a possible reality. Insane.
No matter how good the chassis of the 718 is and no matter how fast this car will be on the track, people will still look at the engine data and some of them will not get this car I'ma afraid. I won't. I wouldn't but maybe I'm a bad example for a potential customer because I'm...not.
Kudos to those who ordered the Spyder...good decision.

They've lost me for definite. And I'm a diehard Boxster enthusiast who is on his 4th....do they care? Probably not!!

My wife still has her Orange LE 987.1 S which is still a joy to drive even after my 09 C2S Cab, 991 C4S and 991 GT3 have come and gone.. I will definitely drive a 718 S. I want to feel for myself the seat of the pants effect of the increased torque and broader torque range.

If you think new Boxter prices are bad wait for the Cayman prices 
You should be able to spec a base Cayman below $60k with some good options. $70k for a 4cyl not convertible car without nav or vent/hated seats or leather, and a bad sound system and pricy optional sport options? Pass.

The Cayman will be slightly cheaper now... (compared to the Boxster).

SciFrog:Noted, well they had to "fix" the pricing mistake vs the Bosxter at some point... Too bad it was done by raising the Boxster price so much...
Boxster price was raised just a few % and Cayman price will be same or lower. Not that unreasonable.

I would definitely go for a 981.1. instead. Even if performance might be slower, a 6 Zylinder is a 6 Zylinder - basta!
It could cost less and have 100hp more than a 981, I still would choose the last generation anytime, it looks better and has at least a 6cilinder engine. If I was offered as a gift this new Boxster, I would sell it in same instant. Still, I have to say the new rear tail lights look amazing.
4 cilinder "Croxster", gosh, even a 20 year old Boxster sounds better.

Agreed - the n/a engines are dead and gone, the tree-huggers have won. Those evocative engines are history. Those who have been fortunate enough to get a new GT3, GT4, Spyder, Carrera GTS, or even Cayman or (like me) Boxster GTS own the last of the line.

Not when there is no sales tax or it is max 7%. Also with leases there is only sales tax on the lease payment if any.
The same applies to VAT. It's a percentage of the invoice amount, regardless of whether it is a lease payment, rental charge or purchase price.

Adam2S:Hmmm, I thought the new 718 was just a facelift i.e. it was a 981.2 - but the used car locator seems to indicate it has a 982 designation!
Correct, internal model designation is 982, meaning the 981 is the first Boxster without a facelift 
Mrs. P-J just browsed the net for some pics of the 718. Verdict:" there are some design elements I like, others which I don't like, but putting all the different design elements together it's not cohesive anymore and therefore appears as too busy ". Lucky me that I suggested to get the Spyder rather than to wait for the 982: happy wife - easy life

The already existing X51 motor would provide a 46hp bump to GT4 (or 56hp bump to Spyder), right?

If I would have to place a bet, I'd bet that the next gen GT4 and Spyder still will get natural aspirated power mills. 6 flat turbo does not fit the engine bay and a highly "tuned" 4 flat turbo does not fit the philosophy of these cars. And the price sticker may rocket.....
