For some reason, it reminds me of a modern 986.

    Re: 718 Boxster

My critique is that they have extended the front overhang (nose) making the car look longer . It also makes it look like it has more straight lines . I prefer curvy lines  and shorter overhangs.

I have no issue with the rear. I think it is an improvement.

All in all, the car looks good. It could have looked better.

Yes and I agree - awful! Smiley Not only does the 718 look like a Japanese car (from the rear, anyway), it now sounds like one (Subaru)

Some may not, I do (if you go to the sound file on the Porsche website not on the one I've pasted above where the uninspiring sound is hidden in music) ) - but I don't hear anything Porsche either.

I configured a base Boxster with the strict necessary (black 20'' wheels, PDK, Sport Chrono, 10 mm chassis, torque vectoring, LED lights, BOSE, navigation), no leather stuff, no carbon, no PCCB brake, nothing special.

    73k EUR incl. 19% VAT.

Then, I configured a Boxster S with almost full options (how I would order the car), incl. leather, PCCB, carbon, shell, 20 mm chassis, Connect Plus, etc..

103k EUR incl. 19% VAT. (I could have easily added another 3-5k if I would paid attention to more "details").

    Over 100k for a Boxster...oh boy. mail

Do you know why Porsche is pushing prices of its cars like that?

I really do not understand how a 911 carrera can have a price tag of 150K, or a Boxster S a retail price of 100K.

My interest in Porsche is fading a bit these days because IMHO, these cars are overpriced for what you get (and I haven't said overvalued by the market because when you can get a second hand 991 with 10.000 kms on the clock for less than 80K, you know that the market is not accepting the prices Porsche is trying to impose).

What's even more wrong is that Porsche is not competing (in my mind) with Ferrari, Lamborghini, or even Aston martin. Porsche is, IMHO, a more "luxurious brand" than Mercedes/Audi/BMW, but that's it. Their cars should therefore be more expensive than an M4, but not by 50K.

100k for 4 cylinder is... well... nuts. You can buy a second hand F430 for that kind of money, or a 991.1 convertible. I know what I would buy.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Porsche is not supposed to be luxurious, it is supposed to be sporty and in this domain, they are basically unbeatable for the prices they are asking and they know it. However, the competition has grown very strong and people are started to compare prices.

I really love the Cayenne Turbo S for example, drove one, amazing, fast, perfect comfort, even sounds satisfactory (oh well, I would certainly add a sport exhaust) and I just love this truck. Would I get one? For the 189k EUR the one I drove costs? No way. Also test-drove a new BMW X5M, new car value around 130k but with a very attractive lease contract attached. Sound not really great, also I hate the interior of the X5 (boring) but other than that, a fantastic high performance SUV and probably my choice instead of the Cayenne Turbo S.

Same goes to the 991.2 Turbo S: The new Lamborghini Huracan LP-580 is 20k EUR cheaper and the more attractive weekend toy car in my opinion.

I do not know why Porsche is asking the prices they are asking (maybe because customers are paying them? yes ) but as much as I am a diehard Porsche fan, I'm not sure I will support them with their pricing. At some point, I cannot put my kids' future in danger because I want to drive a Porsche.  Sorry.

    Re: 718 Boxster

The problem with the Porsche prices are basically not the base prices.
It's the expensive options and the lack of standard equipment.

    See RC's example.

Base Boxster base price 53k configured 73k (+38%)
    S Boxster base price 64k good configuration 103k (+60%)

    I configured a 991.2 S base price 110k configured 148k without PCCB

With BMW I end normally at +20% base price and then 15% discount, so I have to pay only a small amount over base price.

Also, BMW (and Mercedes) have better lease offers.

Interesting with Mercedes: They advertise some dealer cars on the official website as used and with 6000 or 10000 km onboard but when you call the dealer and ask about the car, most of these cars have 500-1000 km onboard. Smiley Great deals.

If Porsche would "adjust" their lease offers to the competition, I would have no issues with their prices. Usually however, the competition has much better lease offers, unless I am lucky and there is some sort of Porsche Financial Lease Special. Also, rebates are sometimes ridiculous (3-5%), only cars at low(er) demand get 10-12% rebate.

I can get 25% rebate at Mercedes for a car with a first registration on the dealership and I can even drive that car registered to the dealership for the period it needs to stay on their name, 3 months or so. Same goes to BMW.

    Porsche needs to adapt...

    Re: 718 Boxster

I guess one of the reasons why prices are so steep is a consequence of the VW disaster. Porsche is trying to milk the cow as much as it can to secure development for the troubled days ahead. Their funds for future projects must have been cut.

    Re: 718 Boxster

I'm very happy with the changes to the exterior (except perhaps the Porsche script in the back):

    • Flatter fender line, less coke bottle shape (in side view); more modern looking, less retro-ish curves
    • Front spoiler design, in side view: I like the rearward slant; clean design
    • Side vents look better
    • Better sized taillights (agree with the criticism of the smoked lenses; but then again I'm a fan of traditional red and orange)

The one thing I can't get over is the shape of the vents inside; the previous ones were brilliant; why did they mess with them?

I agree its the options that drive a big increase. I do recall there was an enormous debate when the 991 came out and everyone said it was way too expensive. I do not know the figures , but I think it has done very well, and some of that was driven by discounting which was very rare previously in the UK but much more common now. I am sure others on this board  will have more detailed facts/info.

I rather have the suspicion that they are planning to scratch the name Boxster and keep the 718 only at some point.

Or they are preparing for the 618 Boxster, the smaller version... LOL
