    Re: 718 Boxster

The spoiler sits quite high in the closed position. I like the design overall and no doubt a GTS version will address any criticism of the front bumper design of the base and S models.

I dont know - it might be the color - but this 718 looks really really cheap!

...should be the color...somehow it reminds me of a 1:43 toy too...perhaps, one has to look at the real thing...

yep - exactly. Maybe the color and that hideous black plastic inlay at the spoiler.

    Re: 718 Boxster

I don't like the front bumper, the rest is OK

In Spain at least, prices are the same as in the 981

    Re: 718 Boxster

Car is much better looking than it's predecessor with smoother and less cluttered lines.  The previous car's rear spoiler stabbing into the taillights was a styling abomination.  The car is supposed to evoke past generations of Porsche mid-engine sports cars, something the 718 does and the 981.1 did not.  Insofar as the engine is concerned I am not virulently opposed to a flat 4 but it needs to sound like a proper sports car, not a lawn mower.

    Re: 718 Boxster

At least, you won't confuse a flat-6 with a flat-4. If it's written PORSCHE in big letters at the back, you know you're looking at a 4.

To be honest, that's the first time I would be more excited to look after a second-hand porsche than a new one. And it's true for the 991 as well.

    Re: 718 Boxster

I dont like the new front bumper and I dont like that hideous black bar with the Porsche Logo.

I would definitely go for a 981.1. instead. Even if performance might be slower, a 6 Zylinder is a 6 Zylinder - basta!

    Re: 718 Boxster

The front and the interior look already dated. Nice effort on the rear but since I dislike the integrated spoiler with the rear lights, zero improvements there... So that car is faster but is it more fun? Love my Boxster 15 years ago but I doubt I would buy one today, the Alfa 4C seems a more more interesting proposition.

    Re: 718 Boxster

the interior air vents are an utter disaster .. reminds me of some very cheap Korean car whose designer forgot about them until the last minute. original vents much better integrated.

the rear lettering is merely making it consistent with the 911 ..

I hope model designation delete is an option leaving only Porsche

rear bumper with the side reflectors are poorly integrated, especially when viewed from the side

the larger air scoops for the side vents also look tacked on, like an after thought. why can the make it one piece?

    Re: 718 Boxster

the rear light clusters look wrong too .. all they have done is fitted some light units into an existing shell, there is no cohesiveness to it

front lights look like an alien with LED .. again, light units put in to an existing shell with no cohesion.

C'mon, it's not as pretty as a 981. The front headlights and bumper look really awkward, and almost cheap. I personally like the spoiler going through the light on the 981 and it certainly doesn't look bad like this plastic 'Porsche' plinth sitting under the spoiler. I will agree with you that the vents are ugly though.

Having had a play with the German configuration, it looks like Porsche a really screwing the options prices. Like the 991.2, this is a considerably more expensive car specced correctly than the outgoing model. This to me is a hard sell with a 4 cyl engine. It'll be interesting to see where they price the Cayman when it is released, but for now, the options and price of this car make it very expensive for what it is.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Maybe they raise to Boxster price but keep Cayman price in check to fix the ridiculous price gap?

    Re: 718 Boxster

The Boxster might be the best looking convertible sports car when it comes to having the top up. Most convertibles look like shit with the top up, especially fabric tops, but the Boxster just works.

    Thanks Rotbart!
I guess we'll see a lot of 718s with the black surround of the Porsche lettering painted in extsrior color, problem (almost) solved.

    Re: 718 Boxster

It's not a radical redesign from the 981. The normal "facelift" front and rear bumper change with the front taking the usual ploy of reversing the shape of the outgoing car's front air intakes and change of rear bumper and rear lights. The side skirt section of the body has an additional recessed surface along the bottom and the door handles have been changed. When you see them side by side I doubt the changes are going to be as drastic as some think.

The biggest change at the front is the rounded leading edge of the front bumper has been replaced with a much flatter, squared of look which gives an optical 2D photo illusion of being more dramatic than it probably is in real life.

    Re: 718 Boxster

It's not drastic, but it looks fuzzier, the 981 was a clean and beautiful design IMO, this ruins it.

    Re: 718 Boxster

The new headlamp and tail lamp clusters are much more modern.  Those are really growing on me.  The interior air vents will never grow on me, that is a step backward.

I wish Lava Orange was available when I spec'd my GT4!

    Re: 718 Boxster

As a 981.1 Cayman 2.7 owner, I'm the only one who like the new car inside and out I guess.

I would prefer the new car in a heart beat. Actually, I tried to sell the 981 for the last couple of months, but hasn't been offered a reasonable price so it stayed.

2.7 liter engine doesn't want to go/move aka very slow under 3800 rpm where it spends most of its time.

That black bar thing at the back is a bit fussy, but otherwise I like it kiss

The 4-cyl turbo thing could be a problem though - I'll reserve judgment on that til I get to have a go..

    Re: 718 Boxster

Other than the interior vents which look downright weird.. I love the changes.

    Re: 718 Boxster

I really like it! Looks much more modern and prefer this to the 981.1 by far.

The colors on offers is a really weak point. Porsche has to introduce more options and then I'm not looking for any loud GT-colors, more shades of grey and blue would be nice.

PSE would also probably be nice, but probably coming in a few months.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Configurator is live at Porsche.com - unsurprisingly the 718's styling seems very color dependent though the engine will be even more polarizing :).
