    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

New SPORT AUTO comparison between the Mercedes GT (462 hp) and new facelifted 991.2 Carrera S.

On the dyno, the Mercedes had 49 hp more (511 hp), speaking of test cars. angry

The Porsche had 419 hp (which is also a little bit odd in my opinion but...).

    Test values:

    0-100 kph: 3.8 s (Porsche: 3.7 s)

    0-160 kph: 7.9 s (Porsche: 8.2 s)

    0-200 kph: 12.4 s (Porsche: 13 s)

    Track values:

Hockenheim Kleiner Kurs 1.10,6 min (Porsche: 1.09,8 min).

The new PCCB brake used in the Porsche also shows a huge improvement: 200 to 0 kph braking distance is only 128 meters. Impressive. Mercedes GT (ceramic brakes as well): 133 meters.

The maximum fuel consumption in the test is weird: They claim a maximum of 13 liters / 100 km for the new 991.2 Carrera S. This is, in my opinion, impossible. The Mercedes GT had a maximum fuel consumption of 19.2 liters / 100 km, which sounds much more reasonable but I still doubt this number. I think that over 20 liters would be more precisely.

If you want to know more details, just ask.

Just has a look as I'm out of th loop on fuel consumption on the newer DI 911s.

The turbo S averaged 16.6l/100km on test, thats 17mpg which is about right. My 800hp 997 Mezger does 16.5l/100km overall inc lots of stop start traffic. These new Carerra turbo engines with their higher CR should be achieving these 13l/100km figures at least ?

Maximum fuel consumption, not average. This is impossible. You misunderstood me.

Average fuel consumption in the test was 11.1 l / 100 km, which is also quite impossible in my opinion. Keep in mind that I have driven the new facelift.

You beat me for about 100mins since after reading the article I wanted to post the results as well.

    1:09,8min is only 0.2s slower then 991.2 GT3.

To further add test example of 991.2 CS is equiped with SPASM/PDCC, RWS and SC.

If you are not autobahn addict ( or live in country like Croatia) 991.2 C4S with SPASM/PDCC, RWS, PSE and SC could be all someone needs.

Not really but considering the experience of my test drive, I highly doubt the 13 liters...and even the 11.1 liters (average).

My 991 Carrera S GTS Cab consumes around 16 l / 100 km on average right now, this is mixed city/Autobahn driving. During a period of time where I was barely driving on the Autobahn, I had an average consumption of slightly over 14 liters / 100 km in the city. I know that some 991 GTS drivers manage to get under 12 l / 100 km average but I also know that they are driving their cars like their grandmothers. Smiley No sport mode(s), no manual shifting, no excessive acceleration and no turning off of the engine off function at idle (I hate it when the engine shuts off, this is why I always drive at least in Sport mode and when it rains or snows, I turn it off manually).

The new 991.2 Carrera S with PSE is an impressive car but not that impressive. Smiley I also bet that on the track, the fuel consumption was clearly over 20 liters / 100 km. Smiley Sport Auto's claim is confusing, at least.

new turbo 2 is faster then RS, new Carrera S is as fast as GT3 ........ Car manufacturer have reached ' track' perfection with soon, any car . A ' real' sports car is not faster anymore then his DD sibling . Time for manufacturers to concentrate on weight, feel, pleasure ,  then raw track time when they build the ' real sports car ' versions .......

Nope - not for me at all!

Sounds actually almost like the 991 I used to own. The DI engine just doesnt sound right. The engine sounds exhausted, sounds not healthy. I dont know why, but a 911 should sound more bassy, more at ease and more smooth! The 997.1 was the last standard Carrera with a decent sound. No artificial plopping, no whining - this is like a Japanese car out of the 80s!

Just take a car for a spin and do not rely on the audio stuff you hear on the internet.

Yes, the cracks and pops are bit artificial (even worse on the 991.1 Turbo S I owned) but the sound itself is quite OK...for a turbo charged car. Actually more than OK.

You cannot compare it to a n/a sound, my GTS sounds insane (my mechanic calls it borderline) and while I enjoy it a lot, I can see why only nut jobs like us enjoy such a sound, most people won't even order the new 991.2 with PSE.

I only drove 300km with the box spyder and not over 4000rpm... but that sound is miles away (ahead) of the sound of 997.2 with PSE and also a lot above 991.1S.  Like RC stated: GTS is another story.

I thought i'd miss the sound of the R8's V8, but this spyder sounds as tempting ... even in this lower rev-level... Hoping to make more km soon. But Belgium has a lot of salt on the roads by now... so hoping for sunshine next weekend.

in all honesty i think that crackling sound ridiculous. like there are some loose bolts somewhere. not like classic over-run on a nice v8. furthermore the sound is almost exactly the same....so it does not sound mechanical

Yes, the crackling sound on the new 991.2 PSE sounds artificial but it sounds even worse on the 991 Turbo S (as if something is loose and hits the chassis Smiley). Other than that (this is certainly something which can be fixed with a software update), the sound of the new 991.2 PSE is really nice for a turbo. Just listen to the M3/M4 or even the 488 in comparison. Honestly.

It is really bad in the 991.1 Turbo S but not this bad in the 991.2 PSE. You really have to drive a car.

Btw: Weird thing just happened with my wife's Macan Turbo. The exhaust sound became louder, even with PSE turned off. With PSE turned on, it is even louder than before. It happened suddenly. Had a similar experience with my former X5 M. At some point, the car was much louder. The exhaust is not damaged or anything, everything is OK. Smiley
