    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

    Lars,

Agree 100%. Bought a 2016 GTS and unless if you are driving really fast, there is very little driver involvement. The difference between my 997.1 and the 991 GTS is that I was having fun driving at 35-50 miles an hour (which is most of the driving I do). The 991 is too perfect! My wife loves it...

I'm thinking about options: trying to find a low mileage 997.1, Alfa 4C or Cayman GT4. Whatever I do I'll make sure that it will be fun to drive in the 35-50 mph range...

Your GTS is Stunning - congrats! And I'm sure it is more fun than my 991.S I used to have.

Glad to read that I'm not the only one. And it is like you say - you have to go much faster to get the same fun.

I damn the day where I sold my 997.1 Convertible. That car was stunning in any dimension. Regarding fun - the 356 Speedster I own is a cute car but not an substitute - it is way too slow to give you a daily kicker. But it is ok for some nice summer days. The SLS is not handy at all, but it is a beast and I enjoy driving it. However - I did only 500km last year - this tells it all. Anyway - a keeper for me. I'm still looking for my daily sports car and I wish to find something modern which is a daily usable and also something special. Today I enjoy the Jeep SRT as a family beast, the car is special and you don't see it everywhere. It is affordable and if my daughter is making it dirty I'm ok with it. and I'm happy with the Mini for commuting to the airport. So even if I would find that perfect, daily sports car I'm not sure when to drive it. Maybe I should change that Mini towards an AMG C63 - great car with lots of fun character.... I guess I will have to test drive one.

Good luck with making your decision Smiley

    I can only agree...

Haven driven a 997S covertible for 5 years i bought an audi R8 whilst not willing to buy a 997.2. When 991 appeared, i testdrove it and it didn't grow on me... Normally i would've been tempted to buy one, but driving home in our R8 i never had the feeling "i have to have one"...

Last summer the p*virus struck again... 2 months of 996 GT3, and finally a 993cab i enjoyed porsching again at it best...

So the R8 went out and i am desperately expecting my boxster spyder in two weeks... I presume this one will gives the p-feel again ,but in a 2016-way. A friend already drives one and he says it's far more enjoyable than his former 911's : 996 turbo and 997.2

The RS can not be a DD . Too flash + I still need once and a while the back seats . And of course I do not want to change this one .

My DD,  997.2 Carrera S PDK is now over 7 years old and has 120'000 km ..... At some point I will need to change it . Actually , my only ' problem' with this car, it's the PDK . I am tired of it . I would love to swap it for a manual .

In the spirit of discussion Smiley  - I used to have a 996 Turbo (X50 and the first in the UK with ceramic brakes - which were horribly squeaky BTW) in Lapis Blue which did not suffer in the least from not looking sporty.

Although I havn't driven the 991.2 turbo charged engine,  somehow I think I made a mistake selling my 991.1S....   I really hope the GT3 for 991.2 will remain as NA as they forcasted.....  otherwise, it would be the end of Carrera for me....

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

It seems like the only desirable cars from Porsche are those they stopped making or those you have to buy a 918 to get an allocation of. Sad. A long way from each car having a dry sump racing engine.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I'm still very pleased with my replacement 991.1 - whilst I know it's a run-out parts special, it'd cost over £90K to spec the same options on a new 991.2 base Carrera2.

That doesn't seem right to me.

there is no current Porsche that fits the bill ...they are unfortunately all engineered like most modern enthusiast sports cars for "  Nurburgring internet bench racing " numbers ..for new , you need a 155 hp 2016 Mazda MX-5  for that " WOT to redline first three gears while squealing  and slip angling the skinny tires " nimble peppy wide grinned 1950/60s curvy road driving vibe. Or buy a 60s or early 70s vintage 911.

Todays sports cars are market competitor engineered for " clenched teeth/ clenched sphincter/ sweating palms " driving " enjoyment " ...but only reach their optimized performance " windows  " at studied, practiced , predictable racetrck  pace which translates to " will fly off the winding road into a tree trunk in a blink of the eye at a ( unforeseen ) patch of damp leaves/loose gravelly sand " public road pace .
