I guess I must be on Porsches black list because every time I have been in a showroom during my 35 years of driving Porsches they have treated me like shit. Never even offered me a test drive or talked to me.  No doubt I know more about the cars than the sales dude so who cares.  It does not bother me though since I would never buy one new. Way too expensive and I'm way too cheap.  I guess they know guys like me are not customers we are drivers.  That's okay with me.

Somehow I know exactly what you are talking about (and our family had couple of new cars).

How did my friend (which also is a frequent new car buyer) say lately "they give me more shit than an mid-size town generated in the last year. The arrogance-factor must be key-capability of the job profile". Smiley

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Had a very good experience  (Maybe 1995) on my way to Cupertino, CA. I do not remember exactly where this was but we where a couple of guys, dressed not too good, going from San Fransisco to Apple HQ in Cupertino when we passed a car dealer and I saw that they had a BMW M1 (The original one) on display. We had to stop there for a closer look - The M1 was my favorite car at that time.
We entered the dealership feeling kind of out on deep water. I think they where specialized in European Exotics, remember that they also had som Lambos but my main interest was the M1.

An older fellow approached us and asked us I we needed any help. I said no and that we just was passing by and had stop to look at this amazing car. He was very polite and told us some details about the car. Think he mentioned that the M1 never as imported to the US and that this car was privately imported.

I was so impressed with the way he took care of us, young, not exactly rich guys and obviously not there to by a car.
But he knew probably that we might come back sometime in the future - maybe not dressed better but with money in the pocket...

I suppose so - he might have done some mistakes with other bums  :)

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Never had that issue with any other dealer. Just the one here in KC. I was even friends with the son of the owner of the dealership a long time ago. They are just a special type of business dumb. Not a clue what customer service is.

Since the MkII is already presented, it would be strange to introduce a MkI model at a later time...

here in Silicon Valley, guys go from borrowing money to buy gas to having enough pocket change to buy a Ferrari GTO or a Picasso , overnight...so sales guys of enthusiast sports cars could care less how you look  ....but in  couple introductory exchanges they can quickly separate  out a rising venture backed techie  grad from the usual " big three " of Stanford, Carnegie Mellon or MIT  from a clerk  at a sporting goods store who spends all his earnings on a used WRX while still living at home with his mother ! Sure , he is an enthusiast , but a sales guy has to put food on his table , blah, blah .

also , many preowned sports car stores as referenced above  are run by a car nut type always present owner who is looking to talk cars with anyone , esp since their floor traffic is so  low . A Porsche dealership, with sales managers closely monitoring the effciency of their sales guys trying to separate the wheat fron the chafe on a busy spring Saturday presents a predictably different  " experience " if you just wanna browse and " shoot the breeze " and have no intention of financial ability now or in the future to be a customer ...just go in on a rainy Wednesday 10 am in a mid winter month and you will have all of everyone's time and attn !

    Hi

Need the assistance of the Rennteam knowledge base please.

German news website have recently published this article, describing the vehicle as a 911R.

    http://www.autobild.de/videos/video-porsche-911r-2016-8445755.html

Regret not being technically minded enough to edit out brief and annoying ad up front.

Has similar but not identical plates to this image first posted a few months ago. Major difference that jumps out at me in the video link above is the 991.2 engine air intake - not horizontal 991.1 style like the earlier mule.

Thoughts (and apologies if i am missing something obvious!)

I'd expect MKI honestly. Would be weird to have an MKII car based on MKI stuff. Isn't the 911 R an MKI GT3 more or less?

Not necessarily.  Could share some important things with MKII (aside from body cosmetics), like manual gearbox and uprated motor.

    Whoopsy:

Funny thing, I used to visit dealers in sneakers and sweaters, hoodies. Most don't even see me.

One time  I did a visit in the 918, wear ripped 501s and a torn t, a baseball cap. What a difference.

Salesman everywhere are cut from the same cloth.

Only thing I can say to them is eat shit.

Smiley At my dealership, half of the customers are like me, wearing jeans and casual stuff but the sales persons are always wearing a suit and a tie. I have to admit that I can related much better to people who are dressed like me but apparently there is some sort of a dress code at Porsche dealerships (so called CI may have something to do with it), so... Smiley

Sales persons at my OPC do not wear ties. I would find that too much. They wear a nice shirt and pants  and sometimes a jacket or a jumper over the shirt. They look clean , neat , modern and not too formal , which is perfect .

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

So who is getting an R ? LP997 is on the list.  But who else ? Whoopsy probably.

I mentioned a long time ago to my dealer that I will be interested for one when they become available.

Then I talked to him once more , but quite informally as I thought I would never be able to get an allocation anyway. I know one client at my dealer who was interested and he would get full priority. So , I did not push and put it aside.

But now I am getting second thoughts. Maybe I should of made a big deal out of it and I would of had a chance ?

the car would actually. Be perfect to drive around . Stealth and all the Motorsport parts I like + at the moment I am full in love with manual shifting again.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

i am on the list too but the reality is that  i don't think I will get one (at list price).

There is an unprecedented level of interest towards this 911 and very few will be made.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

A lot of the interest are from speculators, and probably not even all of the 918 owners will get one. From what I understands, Porsche is vetting potential buyers.

The running joke right now is that Porsche is using the recalled and remanufactured GT3 engines in this car and that's why it's numbers are limited, limited by the number of engines they got back. It's a great way to save money for VAG, instead of writing off millions they turned that into more profit
