Better then the  991.1 RS ? And I am not talking about raw performance .

From talking to AP and FSW, it will be the best car yet by then.

surprising affirmation by AP, isn't it? the rapid succession of 'best-GT-car-ever' statements by AP  just takes my breath away. clearly the feeling 'need the newest and throw the previous away' takes hold.

absolutely correct. so glad that AP is telling me that the next GT car will be better. at this point i am wondering whether i should register my RS next week at all....::::))))) or wait for the next GT3, RS GT2RS....surely quantum leaps in each of them.

on a more serious note, of course the next model will show technological progress but the continuous series of AP-affirmation on his favorite cars gets tedious.

    +1

    It's getting a bit ridiculous...

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

It's the way the world works. The perfect car does not exist. And if it were its successor would be better anyway.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Probably best to judge AP by the objective merits of the cars his team manages to get green lighted by the Porsche bureaucracy. He needs to be able to have wildly successful sales numbers for each new gt car to be able to maintain some autonomy in product design specs. If that sounds plausible then his promotion of each new car is completely logical.

x2 and I think that is the problem, some people can't enjoy the car if they know a better one is comming out..

Are we really discussing why the person most directly involved in the developments that are applied to the GT cars says that each car they bring out as a result of their enginnering work is better than the previous version?  1325269639981rolleyes.gif of course he is going to say each new version is the best, he wouldn't be doing his job well if it wasn't so. Don't understand why some current GT owners would feel threatened or annoyed by that, or even surprised by it. That would make sense if what AP siad wasn't true and the newer version would be worse than the previous, then that would be reason for criticism, but Weissach's track record speaks for itself on that regard. Just enjoy the car like Aldo says.

What changes do we notice under the disguise?  Looks like the overlapping driving front lights may be gone (not missed).  What else do we see?

I am sure there is minor cosmetic changes. The front bumper and rear seem different but I cannot tell what because of the disguise.

The front bumper with it s air intakes changes a lot . More then from 9997 to 991 .  Looks similar on the GT2 mules . More straight lines , less fuss . Just big grills . Nice !

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

First, this mule is 991.2 cosmetic combines with new 991.2 GT3 front and rear.

It will look different. From drive dynamics point it will be as fast on the track as 991 GT3 RS, maybe even little bit faster. Also, faster in straight line and top speed.

Since there will be great versatility in options new 991.2 GT3 will be a natural choice for sportscar aficionados. Spec it with Clubsport and Buckets for track entusiasts. Spec it with Buckets and no Clubsport for mainly road and occasional track drive. Spec it with Adaptive seats and PCCBs for road only use. This is the beauty of GT3, you can spec it the way you want.

And my very personal opinion is that wing delete and rear seats do not belong on GT3. Without rear wing and with rear seats it is not GT3 any more. It is... Well, Porsche can be even very, very smart and greedy amd build special edition of 991.2 GT3 in end of production life as 911 SRS-PDK with GT3 engine, rear seats and no rear wing. Price it at 210k € base price, limited to 555 units, all sold out at this moment.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

What changes will allow it to be faster than RS?  I assume same basic engine and narrower chassis with less aero.  Where will the extra track performance come from?  Better suspension and tires alone?

Suspension is the key. New front will also marginally improve aero.

There is a great potential in further fine tuning of the PASM. Faster hardware/software will help even further. Progress...

So no hope of wing delete for "regular" 991.2 GT3?

I don't mind the GT3's wing as a weekend car; but as a daily driver, for my tastes, wing delete is a must. I can only hope that Porsche finally adds it to the option list (even for a stupid price) rather than reserve it for another "special" car like the R.

After seeing the R in the flesh and seeing how much better it looks than the GT3 and RS, I would hope Porsche really offers the option to delete it on the GT3, along with rear seats and chop the roof (Dream on)...

The R in white with the red stripes is simply the best 911 post 993 models.

There are rumors of a Speedster that is very close to an R without the roof.  Does that interest you (even if manual gearbox)?

Speedster may be even more difficult to get than R and it will be still manual (I think).

All I know is that there is a discussion going on about a wing delete and that many at Porsche want to use the "R" tech to offer this option to the next gen GT3. I do not see a problem with that. A GT3 without the wing is still a GT3 but if you like the wing, well...get it. Where is the problem? Smiley

Make no mistake though, the wing delete option is supposed to cost money (not a free option, one of the arguments the backers use to force the decision makers to make it happen...more revenue Smiley) because a new front is needed (aerodynamical balance). I even heard that PAA may be introduced on the wing-less GT3, which would make this option quite expensive (a couple of thousands...at least).

Considering Porsche makes you pay for floormats on 200K Euro cars, I don't expect anything for free from them (sadly). However, being able to delete the GT3's wing, would be absolutely fantastic.

How could you possibly predict a future GT3 will be quicker/as quick as the RS 'because there is great potential in further fine tuning of the PASM'? That's just saying nothing...

So, you predict that 991.2 GT3 will be slower then 991 GT3 RS?

    Just asking...

Do you really belive that Porsche will introduce new GT3 that is not at least as fast on the track as current GT3 RS?

Well, my P source is in that case total idiot. He needs to resign his work at P and start to work something else. Since he emailed me about your non-sense comment here. Yes, some people that work at P are looking at rennteam from time to time. Christian (RC)  knows that...

And did you not read what Whoopsy and Aldo commented in this thread about new 991.2 GT3?
