Hard to tell but I doubt it. The .1 wing was a rear view obstruction. Making it taller would obstruct the view even more.Smiley

Unless it is as tall as the wing on the RS then one can see under the wing.

    Smiley

exactly. rearward visibility in the GT3RS is excellent, in the GT3 which i testdrove it was rather poor

Hybrids don't need too big a battery, cause it was the supplementary system, a pure electric will need a lot more batteries simply because it's the primary propulsion unit.

For 911 purposes, a pure electric range of perhaps 10-15 km is good enough.

I think the Mercedes approach makes more sense.Smiley

All electric 911 isn't 911 at all. Hybrid is best from both worlds.

If it looks like a 911 and is called a 911, it's a 911. Powertrain/drivetrain is irrelevant. They've used all sorts of stuff over the years. New RSR isn't even rear engine anymore.

This is not valid for future GT models as far as I know...

Hybrid will help to reduce emissions and fleet consumptions, it will also help to provide more substantial power for the top of the line models (for example for the 2020 992 Turbo models).

so you are saying that there will be future gt models which are NA ?

There will be at least one 992 n/a variant. This is all I know.

That is interesting Christian, because I think it means this engine will have to be made for this model only, right? Or is the N/A engine exactly the same as the standard turbo one in the carrera models, but with bigger power output?

Or could it be that the non-turbo is for the base carrera and the turbo will be for the carrera S?

Questions, questions... oof exciting times ahead :-)

The Carrera models stay turbo as far as I know...

The 992 GT3 may not get a completely new developed n/a engine, probably also the reason it may be the last GT model with one. I do not have much on the GT models though, our sources are limited there.

It will be very important how the new 991 GT2 RS will be welcomed...

I heard that they are trying to put a 992 model with n/a engine on the market and it is going to be a "GT" model. This is all I know, so I assume it is going to be the 992 GT3, at least the first one.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Do you think that everything lately around emissions and so on, in direct injection small displacement engines could end with the downsizing? Some brand are already changing their 1.0 or 1.2 for 1.4 or 1.6 in some models. I'm not saying the entire Carrera line up could go NA again, but maybe to reconsider some things...

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

I think as government start measuring fuel consumption and emissions under real driving conditions, the advantages of small displacement turbo engines will shrink.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Its all a complete con this turbo charging, my previous car was a Cayman GTS now i have a GT4. We got a new (310ps) Audi S3 for running around in and with its 2.0 turbo on short runs eats considerably more fuel than the GTS did and on a long run its no better.

The current 911 turbo sounds like a hybrid, Ferrari joined them with a 488  Smiley

Wait till they introduce exhaust mute parts Smiley

If you think the 488 exhaust is muted, the 991 Turbo/S exhaust is hyper muted.

I actually think the 488 sounds quite good for a turbo engine but of course nothing beats the 458 Speciale sound.

Even at lower rev figures? A friend has one (991, non-RS) and it sounds quite regular under 3000 rpm. He always needs to rev high to enjoy the sound, at least above 4000 rpm.

After opening up the exhaust valves permanently on the F12, I can assure you the 488 only hisses at higher rpms, the last loud V8 Ferrari was the 458 the 911 turbos sound went down the drain since 996 came out.
