    Lotus Exige Sport 350

I like the weight reduction and all the leather in the interior, though the plaid is a bit much.  Check out the exposed shifter linkage.  Looking forward to when Lotus can release a brand new car rather than a slight update.  Still, Alfa Romeo, this is how you do a lightweight sports car! :D  Though the Alfa looks more modern and has more flair to my eyes.

    From Auto Blog:  http://www.autoblog.com/2015/12/09/lotus-exige-sport-350-revealed/

Lotus is constantly looking for more weight to cut out of models like the Elise and Exige, as light as they already are. The company somehow found 112 lbs to carve out of the Exige, and the result is the new Sport 350 you see here.

Following the reveal of the Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220, the new Exige Sport 350 weighs just 2,480 pounds. That's 112 pounds less than the existing featherlike Exige S, with its aluminum chassis and composite bodywork. To cut weight where there was so little to be cut, the engineers in Hethel fitted a new louvered tailgate, battery, engine mounts, center console, HVAC piping, and insulation materials. All of those new components are lighter than the ones they replace, fulfilling company founder Colin Chapman's ethos of "adding lightness."

The 3.5-liter supercharged V6 carries over with the same output of 345 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. But with less weight to move, the Exige Sport 350 will now reach 60 from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds, topping out at 170 miles per hour. With it, Lotus also retuned the suspension and the six-speed manual gearbox, which now features a deliciously exposed linkage. A six-speed automatic is also available, adding 12 lbs to the curb weight and altering performance only negligibly.

    Re: Lotus Exige Sport 350

This car is very nice and must be a blast to drive .

The exposed shifter linkage is excellent blush

My problem with this car is that it is actually a nearly 20 year old car, or have I missed something ?

And they seem to bring out new editions every 6 month ........

I'm afraid you're mistaken, but I can understand the confusion. This is the newer V6 Exige which came out in 2012, so it's only 3 years in the market. However it shares a lot of parts (doors, mirrors, main chassis, interior, etc.)  with the S2 Elise/Exige, which is a 15 year old design.

I like this new model except for the tartan interior. I also wished they had also redesigned the handbrake (remove the leather pouch) and give it an aluminum look too.

the exposed gear linkage is just lovely

    love the optional tartan interior

and Roadster version in Mar 16 too

    Re: Lotus Exige Sport 350

The Exige Sport 350 replaces the Exige S V6 just like the Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 have replaced the Elise and the Elise S. It's merely a renaming exercise, coupled with slight changes to release them as new models (they are basically the MY16).

Those are the main models together with the Evora. Then there are the limited variants, which include the now discontinued Exige/Elise Club-Racer and the Exige LF1, the Elise 20th Anniversary etc...

And finally, there are the CUP cars (Exige CUP, CUP R, 360 CUP) and the 311, Evora GT4 etc, which are all products from Lotus Motorsport.

weight down by 51kg is significant.

changes to interior switches, suspension and gear linkages too

not quite a facelift, let alone a new model, but worth while incremental improvements

looks like UK prices have gone up a small amount, £400

Yes, that is what I mean when I say a 20 year old car ( the first Elise came out in 1996 ) and it is still the same chassis, the same doors, the same mirrors , the same interior . But maybe why change something that works well ?

yes, and you can no longer get the 3 years free service, 3 years warranty on the 3 models (Exige/Elise/Evora), so on the bottom line it's even more money.

They simply lack the funds to develop something from scratch while still ensuring to survive if they fail with it. They have had a very tough time in the past years but things are looking well better now with their new CEO Jean-Marc Gales. I am confident.

Lotus is also planning on releasing a SUV in the near future. Hopefully that will earn them a lot of money.

But who is waiting for a Lotus SUV? I can understand (I still don't approve) people buy a Porsche or Bentley SUV, because the brand exudes luxury as well as sportiness. Lotus exudes sportiness and lightweight, not luxury, you don't drive a Lotus as a luxury statement, you drive it because you simply love driving... Who then would be the target audience for a Lotus SUV?

Lotus brand cachet and reach does not stretch to an SUV like what Porsche did with Cayenne and Macan

Of course they will not be as successful with a SUV as Porsche, but for Lotus enthusiasts it will be another model to choose from, which is a good thing as it will become an additional source of income. A lot of Cayenne drivers own another, sportier Porsche. Why wouldn't this strategy also work for Lotus, albeit on a much smaller scale? I'm sure, that I would want one. Soon every sportscar manufacturer will have a SUV on the market, Lotus is just following the trend.

So you're saying that everyone who drives a sportscar SUV wants to make a luxury statement ? I don't think so. I think that if you drive a sportscar SUV it's because you're a fan of the brand.

    Re: Lotus Exige Sport 350

The Exige Sport 350 is a very tempting package, but I was rather expecting an Exige 400 (hp) similar to the recently released Evora 400. Any news on that?

If I'm not mistaken, the Evora 400 got a redesigned gearbox also, which would be urgently needed in the Exige in my opinion (drove last year an Exige V6 and 2-3 and 4-5 shifting was some of the things not on par)

    Re: Lotus Exige Sport 350

So what about the lineup of new lotuses that was announced on the paris autoshow in 2010 by Danny Bahar? (Elise, Elite, Elan, Eterne, etc)
I know that lotus almost kicked it in the aftermath, but have all these models been canned? Some of them were very nice design-wise...

That's indeed what I'm saying. I wouldn't ever consider a Porsche SUV despite (or just exactly because of) being a huge fan of the brand. Porsche to me makes sportscars, hence I'll buy their 911's. If I want a 4x4 I'll go to Land Rover, if I want a saloon I'll go to BMW, ...

Again I understand why brands do it, but I just don't buy it.

    Re: Lotus Exige Sport 350

Yes tbr Bahar models were canned.  Their styling was excellent but those cars did not represent Lotus's cite competency and there was no real plan to develop them into real cars.  Big waste of money by Bagar.

Yes, basic chassis is 20 years old but revised.  Different sills and rear sub frame.
