Will be interesting to see what effect there will be from using a platform shared with the next R8 and Aventador...
Hopefully some weight loss (but mention of hybrid means extra weight - hopefully not every model will have this feature).

SciFrog:How can it still be a 911 if it shares the platform with the R8 and Aventador?
Because it's a flexible chassis platform (front, mid, or rear engine). 911 will be only rear engine variant and of course it will have the iconic 911 body shape...
I guess we long ago gave up on the notion that a 911 also had to be normally aspirated air-cooled dry-sump Flat-6 in a small unibody with short wheelbase with manual steering and gearbox

True, except for the manual steering part...

neunelf:So Porsche scraps the 960 in favor of the R8 which is based on the next 911?
Actually, with the new platform, the 960 has a better chance to actually come...
I don't have any information about the 992 Carrera models but the 992 Turbo/S is going to become a beast, completely new engine with some sort of hybrid tech and a more spectacular body and design (vs. Carrera models). Then I guess it will be decided if a 960 is still needed or not...
Also, the new interior will be very nice, lots of high tech and displays with different dials, etc.. Much higher quality impression included.

I wonder if the 992 will have a 911 E, EV in the lineup as well. It may now happen real quick as all car makers are investing into some EV models.

There will be some sophisticated hybrid tech, especially on the 992 Turbo/Turbo S but I didn't hear anything about a pure electric model (which of course doesn't mean it won't happen).
