With the GT4 you will smile every time. And feel manly about it.

    SciFrog:

Will be flamed for this but won't be the first or last time...

Since the regular 991.2 now has PDK and a turbo engine I would rather have a Macan turbo instead for a car used often and keep the special car garage spot for something really special instead... The 991.2 might be faster, handle better or sound a little better but the difference is not big enough to justify owning both cars wink

No, that is a very reasonable response, and IMO the big risk in Porsche's inexorable evolution to ever more safe/boring dynamics, sound, etc. In Frankl's review linked above he commented that the 911 has become the sports car for people who don't really want a 911, just the look of one.... he meant the 991 overall, and as his comment becomes true, it will drive away those who prefer their 911 with more pure sports feel. You could say, just buy the GT cars then, but these are a significant amount more uncompromising and for many lose the daily driveability factor the main 911 models have.

The other problem is that the GT cars (while awesome) have become the size of a Panamera Coupe, since the base 911 has evolved to satisfy that segment now...

I'm becoming concerned what this "advancement" will have on the Cayman when it receives a four cylinder variant of this motor.

Should lose some weight, but loss of NA character will be even more dramatic with loss of 33% of cylinders and only one turbocharger to mitigate loss of motivation.

Ouch!  I guess we'll have to see.  In terms of outright performance, the 4-cyl Cayman S will probably give my GT4 a run for its money at the local track (high altitude), but I know which car I'd rather be driving...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Every new iteration of the 911 performs better than the previous one and the similar objections and doubts are expressed.

Porsche knows their new car market very well, they spend huge sums on crunching buyer profiles and fine tuning profitability for equipment, performance and options offerings and the 911 has a huge profit built into every car compared to other makers.

So don't worry, eventually they will get into your checkbook with the 991.2 indecision

True but this time, they had no choice. The switch to turbo charged engines wasn't exactly mandated by customer demand or whatever marketing necessity but mandatory future technical guidelines and regulations.

However, I doubt that a majority of Porsche customers will really care but I hope that the "connoisseurs" among Porsche lovers will appreciate the n/a cars in the used car market sooner or later.

Very hard to predict future market demand. Oddly, in my opinion, 1970 and 80s turbos are going for over $300,000 US. And talk about crazy handling cars. My 1976 turbo was like driving a skateboard on ice...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

    Greetings everyone,

This is my first post so please take it easy on me. I just stepped out from Dubai Motor Show and I think I captured some decent pictures of the 991.2

also I am including a Youtube link of the 911 I ordered last month. They say it will arrive in March. Let me know what you guys think of the color combo.

I totally agreed. I was never convinced about the look of the 991, I still hated the gold fish headlamp, but with the GT3RS they got into my check book too.

Welcome Smiley and no need to be worried, we don't bite. Smiley Well, at least not always. Smiley

Here's my personal opinion with the configurator "video": I have my problem with that red interior, can't help it. Something just doesn't look right but it is always difficult to tell by the configuration pictures because the colors aren't always accurate.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I like the red interior with the blue exterior combination. Very unique, unusual and striking. A bit retro, but a great change from the typical black, silver, grey, etc.. Congratulations to this new owner.

don't forget leather sun visors so you don't have the clashing black plastic bits on the windscreen frame

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

    Thank you.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I respect your opinion. I just think that it looks retro and retro is what I am after. I think it goes well with the Targa.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

    Thank you. My thoughts exactly.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Thanks for the tip. As I recall I ordered the sun visors in alcantara. Now I am not sure what color they will come in. Most probably black.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Fully agree. A Miami Blue Targa 4S with PSE currently seems very appealing to me. I have however not driven a Targa yet and heard some people say there is a lot of wind buffeting with the top down. What are the views here? Is it a fact and if so above which speed?

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I would take carbon interior parts and bits - I love them on the GT3 - they look really high-end - to my eyes it would look better with red

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

the door and dash interior trim parts on a standard car is nasty cheap plastic .. best to get aluminium, CF or leather, or painted

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

The current red/black Porsche interior is sublime, love it every day. The problem is to find a good color for the exterior, agate grey works but it is sooooo boring...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

That blue/red combination is striking.  I recall many years ago, a cobalt blue/merlot red leather 964 in the showroom in Zurich.  It was almost a match to the Avanti I had at the time.  Typically, I'm more into the muted grey palate with a brighter interior leather; however, that combination looks really, really good.
