The Porsche 991 R -- first spy pics from autocar
"As is clear from the spy shots, the new car is expected to lose much of the aerodynamic addenda that has become synonymous with GT models and come with the narrower body used by base-spec 911s, with the large rear wing of the GT models conspicuous by its absence."
First, pics are already posted in 911 R thread.
Second, that Frankel guy is really funny character...

Spyderidol:This color does nothing for me, but the car itself looks excellent! (the nose is still too weak for my liking, but the rest is very nice indeed)
I completely agree with you, this clour doesn't suit or compliment the design of the car. It can look lots better in an other combo!

I sat in the Zurich Car Show in the new 991 and left me cold. The new steering-wheel with the "manettino" is very nice and the upgraded PCM Screen surely is a cool. The Center exhausts look great - but everything else is in the flesh not to fancy. I hope for Porsche that the way it drives makes it up for the Initial Impression.

As a side note, water cooled 911 did not arrive in 1993....

Whoopsy:Gnil:Has any early review said anything different then ' better then the last one, one step further, matured , not lost anything etc...... for each new face lift or model ?

Yeah, the 996 reviews
I don't know.
People can deride the 996 all they want, but dynamically and chassis-wise it was a HUGE step-up from the 993. So I don't think 996 reviewers were so wrong in their praises.

+1. I own/owned both and I completely agree that the driving dynamics improvements of the 996 were a real milestone for Porsche . What the 996 did not have was the aesthetical appeal that the 993 before and the 997 after had. Sadly there were also occasional reliability issues mainly on the 3.4 engines (the infamous intermediate shaft failures).
And the RMS issue.
I have had a couple 996s too before for full disclosure.
Funny thing about the RMS, when I talked to them about it, they pretty much said the cars with that issue wasn't driven enough. If a car is driven often enough, the engine itself keeps a steady vacuum inside, and that's part of the sealing solution they designed in. If that vacuum is gone, the seals itself will relaxed and hence the leak.

This looks like the new Miami blue ..... that was at one stage going to be an official color on the RS

In most cases, a GT3 RS is leading; is that to provide the proper soundtrack?

Paulo_Rangel_Melo:The 996 interior (MK1 & MK2) was 50 times better than the 993 but the 993 interior had better quality 50 times more than the 996 MK1
+1
Now, the 996 interior is dated and looks cheap and the 993 is classic and still in good shape.

SciFrog:I had a 996.2 and was very pleased with the quality of the interior. Actually I see that car every week and it has held beautifully for a 12 year old car...
My 996.2 was the first new car I ever bought and it rattled all the way home from the dealership (and many visits to the dealer never improved it). I sold it to buy a 993 (and 911) and that car was far superior.
