Ferrari to be Valued at $9.8 Billion in IPO

Ferrari to be Valued at $9.8 Billion in IPO

Ferrari is expected to be valued at up to $9.82 billion at the time of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange when a 9 per cent stake in the automaker is sold by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
In a filing made by Fiat with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, it has been confirmed that 17.2 million shares will hit the market valued at $48 and $52 each. The Italian marque will be traded under the symbol ‘RACE’ on the New York Stock Exchange.

The filings have also revealed that Ferrari will take 2.8 billion euros in debt from Fiat Chrysler while also issuing 2.128 billion euros in debt to a number of third parties. All told, Ferrari’s enterprise value will sit at around $12 billion. As part of the IPO, Ferrari chairman Piero Ferrari, the son of Enzo Ferrari, will receive a cash payment of 280 million euros while retaining a 10 per cent stake in the company.

It is reported that demand for Ferrari stocks could be more than 10 times more than what will be made available.

Smiley Especially since, apparently, Chrysler plans to "take" 2.25 billion from Ferrari before the IPO and they also plan to "transfer" an unknown amount of debt to Ferrari before the IPO, so I would be very very careful here, especially after the initial IPO start.

On the other hand, if I look at VW right now...they bounced back around 35%, which is unbelievable for a stock with so much uncertainty in it. Whoever risked it, did well. I am too much of a pussy for that. Smiley

Re: Ferrari to be Valued at $9.8 Billion in IPO

I bought TESLA in this Jan. (2015) at 190,5 and it hits 280ish in July-August and now get a hit after X Model launch, around 220 now. However, I still believe in the company and still holding it.

What do you think about Ferrari stocks? If it was Maserati, I would be more comfortable because it has big goals with introduction of the new SUV and also they will introduce new GTS and aiming 55K cars to sell in a year; up from 6k from 2013.

But for Ferrari, I don't know how they increase their sales and profit.

VW is another story. It dropped from 169 to 90ish in a week or so after the emission scandals. They are faced to around 20B USD punishment just from USA. They spare 6,5B USD badget for the recall of the cars. Audi will most probably be effected also. Furthermore USA stops 2.0 diesel engine sales of VW which is 20% of 550K sold cars. So I wouldn't bet on VW now evenif it bounced 35%.

Don't ask me about car stocks, this is why I don't own any, I seem to suck at predicting them right.

Bought Tesla stock at 16 or 19 USD, I don't remember anymore, sold at 26 or so. Had 3000 of them.

    Now do the math. Smiley

Also held some Porsche at some point, made a nice profit (bought at 36 or so, sold at 45 or so) but should have kept them longer.

Like I said, I'm not into car stocks because I do not understand them too well, as weird this may sound.

Wanted to get some VW stock at some point but I said to myself: What the heck, 95 for VW? Too much. At some point, VW hit over 250. Smiley In retrospect, I am maybe happy I didn't get them.

Maseratis are all over the place in China. I see them everywhere.

Ferrari... well, that depends on if they increase production. What auto company or luxury good maker actually wants to sell less stuff than they can? Sure, luxury companies naturally limit volume due to high price tags, but they'll gladly sell as much as they can at the prices they ask. Ferrari is generating revenue by supplying Maserati with engines, so they will enjoy some of the growth from Maserati.

PE seems high and the valuation already seems to reflect growth in sales beyond the normal 7000 or so.

    Christian,

What I learned that if a company is going well, one should sit on its profit as long as possible. 3000 stock of TESLA is a big money, if you consider todays prices. And it comes to this point in less than 5 years or so.

Which tech companies do you invest? I appreciate small hints Smiley

Thats the problem, TESLA never did well, so I sold my stock because I couldn't have imagined even in my wildest dreams that it will hit over 100 USD, let alone 200 or more USD. yes Bad luck, I guess. I could have bought at least two new Ferraris from the gain. mail

Tech companies? Just look around what you are using on a daily basis and it may give you a hint.

Maserati had a record year 2014 with 36.500 cars (23.500 Ghibli). However, 2015 isn't so good (-15%) and Maserati cut shifts at the factory where their two best-seller sedan cars are built.

The sports GT models sell only 3.000+ units worldwide. Compare this to Mercedes in the same price range!

The Ghibli was delivered to the majority of those who ordered one, in Year 1 of production and I don't think many will be queuing for a Ghibli year in year out.

The next jump for Maserati will be when the SUV will be released.

Maserati also need a true sportscar below the Granturismo, something like the 1990s 3200GT but more developed than that model.

P.S. I showed my wife a white Ghibli last week. She mistook it for "Korean or something" and said that a more noble design was expected from an Italian name.

Re: Ferrari to be Valued at $9.8 Billion in IPO

Personally, I don't think Ferrari is 'expensive' even being valued at $10 billion. If Tesla is being valued at $28 billion without making a profit ever, then $10 billion for Ferrari is cheap. It is a money printing machine, just licensing and merchandising rights would provide a steady revenue every year, profits from making cars is just icing on the cake.

Engine is great, everything else is...well...underwhelming. I always loved the sound of Maserati cars but the performance was always way too bad for the price Maserati was asking. Drove the first Granturismo MC Stradale, wonderful car, amazing sound, great chassis (though not perfect), great looks but the performance wasn't just good enough. Even now, with the improvements, the car is still slower than a regular 991 Carrera S for much less money.

True, Maserati is more about show than go, their products compared to competition are always behind in all regards apart from engine sound and glamour. I have a Quatroporte GTS and it has much more soul than my 911, it´so much more special, still, a Panamera would give circles around it, it´s better in everything apart from looks and engine sound. Maserati really need to improve their performance, tech gadgets and prices, even the design nowadays is not so special anymore.  Aston Martin is on the same boat. Anyway what the car makes you feel is what counts, and every time I drive the GTS is special, can´t say the same thing about the 911.
