One of the things I love about the 991 C4 is how the tail light illumination looks at night with that illuminated middle strip. Not sure if the 991.2 C4 will get that anymore (haven't seen it twice on occasions).

The 4-wheeler looks better - agree because of rear light optic - but also to a huge extend because of the side sills / door sills. They are very much different to the 2-runner. Also - the sides are having those plastic parts underneath. It just looks great.

I just love the light front end feeling when you drive a 2WC. The 4WD never gave that feeling - anyway, look wise the 4WD is light years better.

This is the smaller GT steering wheel. Check out official Porsche price list in PDF, it is on Porsche German web page.

In the mean time, Lava Orange...

The car looks excellent! Much more in harmony than 991.1

Great looking car! i never liked the former blinkers... far more refined!

Agree but why the two vertical plastic parts at the extremities where the old turn light indicators used to be? Looks cheap and after-thought.

Looks like internal ducting into the wheel well for an "aircurtain" system to lower drag and increase directional stability.  Also it is a housing for the a bumper sensor.  However, this being Porsche, one would imagine that for a price, one can have that piece painted.  Be sure to order the left and right painted sections, otherwise, it will look really strange with  one side painted.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Maybe it is an afterthought. Those Germans loves their form follow function theory.

They seems to be air scoops to direct more air into the radiators.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

the 991.2 looks quite good, particularly in 4WD - for a 911 that is. little touches, where the total is greater than the sum of the individual small changes. they will never get rid of the squashed beetle look anyway, so it is all cosmetics. but nice ones this time around.

One of the first things that caught my eye when the dealer showed me my 991 C4S was the rear tail lights and middle strip.  It would be a mistake on Porsche's part to not include this with the 991.2 C4S  RWR_1760.jpg

The middle strip is there, just hidden on the test cars:

On some cars there was none but this doesn't mean much on test mules. Lets hope for the best.

It seems to me that every time they introduce a new iteration of the 911 it is massively better than the car before. Not sure about the price hike... Perhaps it can be justifiable if they include more features as standard.

True but it will be interesting to see where the 911 is going with the next generation (highly interesting from various points of view). Not so sure so many variants make sense anymore.

Quick impressions from Frankfurt, more later..

    1.  Graphite Blue color is tepid and blah.  Miami Blue is garish.

    2.  Mission E concept is half baked, with front better than rear design.  Good direction for Porsche (pure electric) but design has a long way to go.  White was a poor choice for presentation.

    3.  960 project dead for now, maybe in 10 years, but a member of Porsche Board told me personally that it was still his passionate dream.  Just not the time now.

    4.  New 991.2 rear lights are cool, but not transferrable to 991.1.  991.2 design changes are extremely subtle, almost unnoticeable.  Rear design is better than front.  Future 99i changes will always evolve slowly--no startling changes for next generation.

    5.  Turbo charging on Carrera S will put NBR times close to 7:30, a full 8 seconds faster than 991.1 model.

    More later...

In the photo you showed, I agree. In the press photos, the Mission E kind of looks much better. Photoshopped? Smiley

It will be going to be interesting to see if the new turbo engines create traction issues and how the AWD models will benefit from that.

    Thanks, Sydney. Smiley

You will simply get the R8 instead and remain within the VW group. Not an issue for Porsche in the bigger picture of things Smiley I am with Whoopsy on this one, the R8 is the reason we don't see the 960. After having witnessed the new R8 close up in action on Nürburgring I think this car fill the space well. The 960 would get tough internal competition from the R8.

The new rear light. It looks safe to assume that it will not fit the 991.1 as there is a kink on the lower inner corner.

    Not a direct fit.

The 997.2 tail lights wasn't gonna fit the 997.1, but atomic80 wanted them so badly that he even changed the bumper too in order to get the .2 lights onto his .1 Turbo.

I assume the Cab is Miami Blue.  More in line w/ the old turquoise blue of 1997 than the configurator which looked more muted/darker.

By looking at the blue cab you may well be right, it was not apparent on the LO car due to the angle of the shot.

On the positive side, I do think the new rear treatment is improved.  More substantial, sharper renderings of open space.  The rear lights are distinctive.  Not sure yet about the central exhaust ports, or the high gloss black trunk lid vents.  i also think the wider 4 and turbo bodies will improve the rear's appearance of solidity and power.porsche 991.2 rear.jpg

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Hmm, actually I don't like that view at all. Lots of busy details, edges and surfaces, and too many different materials. It does not look as harmonious as the 991.1

I saw on the configurator  a graphite blue and crayon interior and was wondering what other color would that go with besides a graphite blue exterior.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I like what they did to the lower portion of the rear, and the new exhaust placements, as well as the rear lights, but that grill still doesn't convince me. IMO the 991.1 vents looked so much better.
