In any colour the new model is tragically overpriced.

By most measures, I agree.  Or you could choose to see that it laps the Ring on street tires in the time it took the 997 GT2 on track tires and costs half as much...

Prices are getting out of hand.

If at least the cars were holding their value but in Germany you can find a 991 carrera with pdk (15000 km on the clock) for 75k.

There's an article on autocar's website which compares a 991 C4s with... a 3 year old Bentley. You've guessed it... same price.

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-porsche-911-versus-used-bentley-continental-gt-comparison

As far as I'm concerned, It's plain non sense to buy a 991 carrera S for 150k when, 3 years later, it will be worth less than a 100k. Something is wrong with Porsche prices. It's like those MSRP are always going up but the second hand market is not following so the cost of owning one is sky rocketing. Porsche should not try make the 991 a car that its not. It's not a Ferrari 458, it's not a Bentley, it's not an Aston Martin DB9 or whatever they are called these days, and it's not a Mclaren either.

If Porsche wants a sports coupe in the 160-200K price range, they should just come up with a new car, like a 928 of some sort with a V8, instead of moving the 991 in the upper segment. There's too much history behind the 911 and when you think about it, it was never a car made to compete with the "super sports cars" of the days.

If it goes on, it will get cheaper to drive any sports car on the market than a Porsche 911. It's sad.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Actually, I found a very nice 991 Carrera with manual for 72k EUR and with only 17k km on the clock at an official Porsche dealer, not from a private person.

Cars with PDK are usually more expensive though, around 85k EUR, Carrera S are slightly under 100k EUR.

It will be interesting how 991.1 prices evolved with the new 991.2 models on the market for a while. Next year is going to be interesting.

Btw: Out of curiosity, I configured a new 991.2 Carrera S with many many options (not all of them but almost).

Price tag? A whopping and jaw dropping 179k EUR. Not the Cab, a simple Carrera S. Not even with powerkit (which isn't available but you could easily add another 8-10k for it). This is just insane. Such a car would probably lose 30-40k in value the moment you register it. Smiley

Porsche doesn't care, they still sell as many cars as before... The 911 was a good deal in the past, and even today there still aren't any real alternatives in the price range for a new car.

The 911 is so refined that there are barely alternatives, true but the competition doesn't sleep and I see Porsche moving towards a one way street, where their 911 prices get closer to 200k and over and there will be no way back. In the 100-130k EUR price range, there will be new competition at some point, look at the new AMG GT (not S) and others (soon).

I am actually "happy" Smiley with the price increase since this will make sure that the used car market stays solid. If the 911 moves towards 200k EUR, I doubt there will be many used (newer) 911 models left around for under 100k.

Right now, I cannot see myself getting another 911 if the prices increase like that. For 180k, I can already buy the new Audi R8 V10. Smiley

Saw the color at the factory and it is a nice subtle color - interesting to look at while not calling attention to itself.

I applaud Porsche taking risks with colors, but I saw this color on car in the Exclusive salon in Frankfurt, and thought it was dull and unappealing.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I second that. Headlights, stoplights and other details are all modern and this paint is retro. Not a good mix to my eyes.

It emit practically no engine exhaust sound :(

That doesn't sound good Nick, no pun intended... wIth or without sport exhaust?

The GTS is a keeper for me but eventually I know I will be driving a 911 with a turbocharged engine since it will be the only option when I decide to get a new 911 so I'm really hoping they can extract a decent sound from it and not be too conservative :(

Yes, plenty of comparisons. Pretty much every model of Porsche produced did a parade lap, even the 991 Turbo/Turbo S sounds louder than the 991.2. Best sounding road cars are the GT3/RS of various years, the air cooled 993/964 have their distinctive sounds also. Then there are the 356s flat 4s which sounds totally different than the 6 cylinders.

Laguna Seca took off the sound restriction for this event, had they kept it the 918s won't pass, like all other race cars.

Personally, I think the 991 RSR race car sounds the best, they are also the loudest.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Thanks, then if the other ones sounded allright it wasn't a problem of the asfalt type drowning the exhuast sound with tire noise or the acustics of the place dissipating the sound or something.

Kind of worrying... beginning to think that Porsche has done research on what their mainstream customer base wants and maybe the main customer doesn't care aboput exhaust sound or may even want it silent like that? that would be crazy to think for me but can't find another explanation... but whats the problem with the sport exhuast then?

After 10k miles in my 991 TTS it's become v loud in a traditional boxer sense. More notable with 2/3 throttle than full throttle oddly. Starting to get complains from people.

Until we can see the rear of it nobody is really going to have much to say, since that's where the 4S makes it's statement as far as looks go. The performance is another story.

I heard the car lately (I won't say the day because it could reveal where... Smiley and apparently Porsche isn't too please with my comments regarding the sound), with sport exhaust and I can confirm it, again, that it sounds like a Macan Turbo with sport exhaust from the outside, maybe with an added roar to it. From the inside, it sounds much better than the Macan (sound symposer?), true but the sound is not even close to my 991.1 GTS, we did a direct comparison and even the 991.2 driver was reminded of how disappointed he is (was).

Most customers however will probably welcome the new sound, I haven't heard many complaints from M3 customers (maybe from those who had the predecessor with V8 but otherwise...) and I think people actually prefer a quieter sound lately, for various reasons.

Just yesterday, I've been in Munich with my wife, driving with an open top (it was sunny) to Schloss Nymphenburg. While cruising looking for a parking lot, an older guy shouted  from the sidewalk next to me "geht es auch ein wenig leiser?" (is it possible to tone it down a bit?). I felt a bit annoyed because I was driving at 20-30 kph and in second gear but apparently this is already too loud for many people in Germany. Smiley People are more sensitive to sound than they have been before, the definition of "sound smog" is used quite common in the media nowadays.
