    Re: Cayman GT4

Bummed about the "mention" of no gt4 RS as per the interview. Macca, RC or anyone else, have you heard the RS will happen?

    Re: Cayman GT4

From my P source email from this morning... GT4 with PDK will be officially announced tomorrow or on Tuesday. No GT4 RS.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Interesting is that PDK or PDK-S? and do you know if it just an option on existing allocations or if there will be an additional allocation for PDK cars?

I can see there being a lot of p*ssed off former LOI customers who dropped out of the original list when the car was announced with manual only! I wonder where they will stand on the lists now? cheeky

Current - Aston V12 Vantage, Morning Frost White, Buckets, Manual

On Order - Cayman GT4, Racing Yellow, PCCB, Full Buckets

If the PDK gets the short gear ratios, manual owners won't be very happy about it Smiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

Typical Porsche, now that 991 is getting a power upgrade with 991.2, the 981 platform can see its performance envelope expand.

    Re: Cayman GT4

I wonder if PDK will also be available on Spyder?

I'll forgive such a heresy if there is some way to adapt the lower gearing to the manual Smiley

Pointless, standard Cayman/Boxster PDK have a useless extra tall 2nd gear and the transmission will eternally refuse to shift down to 1st by itself.

I would think a PDK for the GT4 could be PDK-S with 7 performance gears (either by re-stacking gear ratios, new Ring & Pinion or both).

    Re: Cayman GT4

So, if the announcement comes and those with cars not built yet can change who will????

Im in two minds, keeping the 987 Spyder which is manual so the PDK would be a good 'foil' to it, but still like the satisfaction of getting a gear change spot on rather than the extra few tenths I'd get round the circuit...

    Re: Cayman GT4

I suspect with the more raw and back to basics nature of the Spyder manual would probably suit the car's character better Rich.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Ive spent the whole summer driving my GT4 and it was really fantastic. Sadly I fear the car might not be a keeper, especially since the GT3RS is coming. After the long gear ratio issue, there is another one that has become apparent on mountain roads, the power to grip ratio is too track oriented. But for the track, the car could use more HP.

For the road, the 295 Cup 2 tyres have far too much grip compared to the 380hp of the car, unless you floor it in first gear exiting a hairpin, the car will not move, there are much more fun car, as a result, imo on the road, like a Cayman GTS. Or even the Boxster Spyder I would think, it has narrower and less sticky tyres.

You could argue the GT3RS will have even more grip but it also has 500hp to kick the back out.

    Re: Cayman GT4

So, what about this GT4 with PDK ? I still find it very hard to believe, that it would come "just like that" (with the complete GT3 set-up but now with PDK). Or is this just the long expected homologation model  then ?

Maybe adding a lower Ring & Pinion (once available from Porsche Motorsport or elsewhere) and a second narrower set of wheel/tires (street rubber) would solve your issue?

It would but I don't want to modify the car. It's a great car overall. still a great car for the money, that and the Boxster Spyper.

My understanding is that the GT4 with PDK is a motorsport offering (Cup). I guess we will know soon enough.

Just spent the morning on the Nordschleife in very heavy rain. The car is surprisingly well behaved on the Michelin Cups. I had aqua planing a few brief moments, but the car tells you before the limit is reached. Very direct and progressive feedback in the steering and wheel grip.

I never noticed if PSM kicked in, but I guess so. In the end I would think it is mostly down to the tires, the Cups are not really ideal for standing waterSmiley

That would be interesting (and a little surprising).  I thought the Cup would use a real Sequential (if not Manual).

Rain, rain, rain and more rain. It went from torrential, to normal rain, then a drizzle and finally at around 18 the sun broke through and it started to dry up. In the end I managed 6 laps on a dry GP track.

    Re: Cayman GT4

The GT4 appears to be a popular track toy. There are quite a few cars here in red, yellow, black and blue. Lighter solid colours such as yellow, white and red seem to suit the GT4 shape better (the yellow is real nice in natural light). The black and blue did not impress me so much. I had to look twice to see that these were GT4s and not Cayman S/GTS.
