Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    DaveGordon:

You get worse deals from companies like Ferrari who limit their production numbers, and prefer to sell into regions where they can sell for a better price. This is why anyone can walk into a Swiss dealer and buy one, but you get properly shafted in the US.

Yes, quite weird. I saw a couple of 488 in Florida, way over MSRP (let alone the German price tag), even used cars. In Germany, you basically can get a 488 at MSRP for immediate delivery if you're not too picky about the color and/or options. Slightly used, even under MSRP.

Not really. Only a few new 488's on offer, all very poorly specced or above MSRP. And all offered by second tier dealers.

Need one from an official German dealer? Smiley Only problem is: They are kind of picky who they sell these cars to because of Ferrari Germany being on their asses. The deals on the internet are not showing the full picture.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Saw a kermit green convertible 650S today. It was simply stunning, although the matte yellow 488 spider wasn't too shabby. But the McLaren was more composed...

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I would only get a 675LT right now, the 650S is already outdated with the new 720 arriving.

All super sportscars are color sensitive. Saw a blue (similar to that 911 Miami blue) Huracan Spyder last Friday...oh boy, what a beauty.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Saw the car yesterday, had long chat with chef engineer ,  this car absolutely blow my mind, can't say much but like to point out

    1) there r two spy photos of dash: shown normal screen and thin screen.

    2) new carbon cage can eliminate a lot of structure, so new surprises

    3) Ferrari always talks about they can drift...... (this is extremely cool tool)

    4)  design is absolutely insane!

    5) interior insane

    6) sounds insane!!!!!!!!  Totally new character of sound!!!  They put a lot of money on development into the sound

I think things all I can say without getting myself into trouble.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Sounds great, can't wait to see the first reviews (or actually the official announcement first Smiley).

Cannot wait to see it in Detail in  Geneva kiss

    Here's the dash. Two modes.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

In second mode it looks like interior of various new Citroen models.

Maybe a cool thing for track racing. On the pictures this dashboard looks ugly. Sorry for me not an improvement and hard to compete with competition.

You can leave it in the upper position, so no big deal. Looks like a clean design to me but it is difficult to judge from the side view.

Have mine 650  for service and drove back home with a 570 gt loaner. It is a very nice car, lot of light inside. Could be a very goof dd car.

Where would you say does the 570 have advantages/disadvantages over the 650s? Would be interesting to hear about your impressions Smiley

Looks like the redline of the 4.0 has dropped 500 rpm compared to the 3.8?

Hard to say - I have driven 650 s in summer and 6.000 km and the 570 gt 50 km.

My first impression (very subjective) - the 650 is more a supercar then 570 gt. The 650 feels more like a well suited suit whereas the 570 feels more generic (maybe nobody could know what I mean). I am a Porsche guy the last 20 years or so. When first driving the 570s it was like driving a R8 or similar car. It is nice and I would say more involving (character) then a 911 but the gap wasn´t huge enough. I was invited to a track day where I had the chance to drive a 570s. After the whole day I got the chance to test drive the 650 and that was the moment I said "oh, this is something very special". And this is today as valid as one year ago.

570 wins on steering feel and precision which is absolutely superb, and the  sound system which is now Bowers and Wilkins. The 650S is superior in all other respects:bpower, torque, handling etc.

I have a 650 s spider with sport exhaust - so sound system in my car is obsolete. Steering feeling?? Have to check it this evening and tomorrow again. Didn´t notice great differences. Mine has Corsas and the 570 Pzero. Corsas tend to follow up ruts more then Pzero.

B&W isn't so special B&O is much better - but McLaren have not much space left for loudspeakers and amplifiers

Besides my RS, the only other car I can REALY see myself in , is a McLaren , 650s, or better , 675LT . The forthcoming 720 should also do it .

I didn't say the sound system was important Smiley. The point is that the old system in the 12C and 650S - even the upgraded one - was not great and the Bowers & Wilkins one is better. Are B&O is better.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I find 12C/650S/570S more or less the same performance in normal usage. Differences are a few tenths and a few mph in the 1/4 mile. Nothing you'd really be able to determine without instruments.

You can probably chalk up a lot of the lower performance of the 570S to using skinnier tires. Wouldn't be surprised if it's even better now with the latest generation tires. The improvements in the interior and the ingress make it the superior choice IMO.

I drove it on the twisty roads in CT and thought it was no worse in handling than 12C or 650S. I guess it might be a little bit worse on a perfectly smooth track with no restrictions, but on real world roads with speed limits, flaws, and such I didn't think the normal suspension was much different than the hydraulic.

I would always choose a 570S over a 12C/650S. Differences in performance are minor and everything else (including reliability and price) are better.

The brands doesn't matter so much as the interior space and speaker choice. You can get better B&W than B&O, or vice versa. Just depends what kind of space you have to work with and what the company thinks is important. In McLaren's case, I think they just don't have a ton of space and try to keep weight down.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Honestly, this folding screen idea adds unnecessary complexity and seems mostly like a gimmick.  While I could see the benefit of a having a cleaner second display that basically only shows only race mode revs, that could be accomplished by simply having a different mode on the larger screen.  Plus, it's a good idea to keep an eye on certain things like oil temp etc. while on the track.

A feature to have a feature, but I could be convinced otherwise.
