I love this - sleek, clean and elegant. I just hope Porsche doesn't go absolutely apesh_t with pricing lest they screw this car into overpriced oblivion.

Too naked to be revealed in September like all the sources are saying. I call Beijing later this month or an online reveal sooner than that.

I don't like it at all. IMHO the design hasn't any sense of proportion and as other said, it's too big for this shape which makes it ugly af.

The SW are selling like hot cakes, even Ferrari joined this segment and nailed it with the FF, and Porsche insist with this weird idea when they have the Sport Turismo.

true? 1. April joke? The engine specifications can't be true, they took them from the current Panamera.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

So far I like the original Panamera better... Same as the original Cayenne that had something that will turn into a classic. The real issue is the ridiculous price.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Yeah, this new version, as I feared, they have gone entirely in the wrong direction with it. The original design had character, presence, elegance, this just looks like a toy, totally generic, with with none of those positive characteristics, which is not really what you want in a sedan. Maybe Porsche is confused about what the Panamera is? Or maybe they got too hung up on the (entirely underserved, in my opinion) 'hump' criticism and simply lost the courage to continue to make something actually unique.

Love it! Addressed all the (ugly) failures of the 1st gen.

Never thought I would say this before, but I would now definitely consider a Panamera as a daily driver.

the side shots of the grey one, 4S or something presumably, looks very good imo.

RC said that "Beijing is just the beginning"; based on these prototypes, it looks to be just around the corner anyway.

Front bumper is like the Caymen first generation. The black plastic parts are similar to a Golf GTI. Especially that black piece of plastic we are seeing on the rear is same like on the 718 and just screams - cheap plastic. It is definitely more a facelift than a complete new car, but this is what we are used to from Porsche. They always keep 70% of the car for two generations. Seeing that I have to say that Tesla made a better looking Porsche Limousine with the Tesla 3.

I see the car daily in flesh and since two or three weeks they hardly wear some camo. The car looks like the old with a bit make up. Only thing - the rear lights are a million light years better. Other than that - same old sh*t. It misses innovation and even regarding technology there  is no innovation to expect. It is Mercedes, BMW which are bringing innovations to life, may it be gadgets, safety or material mix - nothing new from Porsche. And for sure Tesla with its digitalization is moving faster than any of the Germans together. But clearly to see - Porsche is adding Zero innovations throughout the model lines (maybe you can see some innovations in the 918, but even here, nothing we haven't seen from any other brands). They are adapters and not innovators.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

Porsche had amazing chance to give Panamera completely new visual appearance and technology with Sport Turismo Concept, but seems they took secure road with first-gen Panamera redesign for new model.

I wouldn't say so. The Panamera was quite innovative back in 2009. It was the first car with a double clutch transmission in its class, it had adaptive aerodynamics, some parts of the chassis and engine were out of magnesium, pdcc, the all-wheel-drive was and is still one of the sportiest in its class. It's a benchmark in its class. Of course the infotainment system is dated and the engine can't hold up with the current technology either (hot V).  But this will probably change soon.

The more I read these replies, the more I think about how hard people are to please. I get that opinions are subjective and relative, but the general theme I'm picking up from a lot of responses is "hmph, nothing is right."

    ***

Current Panamera too ugly. Rear hump must go. Side profile of the new one too fastback-like? Generic.

It has to look like a Porsche. Why the pronounced curves? Fix the curves. Great, now it just looks like a facelift.

Current car too heavy. Must lose weight. Only around 90 kilos down for the new one? Still a pig.

Current engines great. Too thirsty though and need more speed. Turbo engines on the new ones? Less emotion.

Porsche too far back on technology. Antiquated/tiny screen and too many buttons. 918-esque touch panels on the new one? Ergonomic nightmare.

    ***

Michael Mauer himself said that the new Panamera will look distinctive enough to be recognized as a successor model, but it will still obviously be a Panamera. We all know that this is Porsche and any changes made are, more often than not, incremental and evolutionary so why the surprise here? Besides, if Porsche gave it all away now, what's the point of a facelift?

Easy, fellas. We'll all see the finished article soon enough and if it still isn't to your liking, best hold onto your current chariots. wink

I think for me the frustration is seeing what Porsche are able to do with this model (Sport Turismo), and then seeing what they actually do with it. It's a bit like watching Nature able to produce Candice Swanepoel , but when the time comes, she produces Rosie O'Donnell.
