    Cayman GT4 RS

From what I hear coming out of Weissach we need a new, please non-salmon, thread Smiley
All this, let's try to foresee what we can expect:

    - Production numbers: Limited edition , or limited due to time constrains?  Probably a limited edition
    - Engine as in GT4: no X51 options, but GTS software mapping, with only slightly reduced power?  Probably 410 - 420 HP
    - Gearbox:  6 Speed manual
    - Less weight than GT4:  of course , which numbers can be expected (-40 kg) ?
    - Better down force numbers: bigger rear spoiler, for sure

Edit : I've have overseen the GT4 CUP thread, so, just to clarify, I'd like to talk here about the street legal version, P seems to plan.

    Re: Cayman GT4 RS

Interesting rumour. I could see a bump in price for this GT4 RS. It will sell out immediately anyway.

Any idea how they are going to achieve that power figure with only software and no hardware? Sounds optimistic to me. The 997.2 GTS had 408hp with software and hardware.

    Re: Cayman GT4 RS

Is there even time left in the 981.1 lifecycle to squeeze in even a short run of GT4RS production?  I thought GT4 was taking through to the end so unless they run in parallel, which would mean ramping up total production or reducing GT4 production, I cant see how it could happen?

Current - Aston V12 Vantage, Morning Frost White, Buckets, Manual

On Order - Cayman GT4, Racing Yellow, LWB

    Re: Cayman GT4 RS

I have my doubts as well - dealers here in Germany try to get every slot they can get hold of on any GT4 production, so why should P. bother with the RS, it cannot be a matter of homologation, could it ?

    Re: Cayman GT4 RS

ECU software tweak cost them almost " nothing "......making the lithium battery std , with reg battery " optional " results in advertising a further 30 lb weight drop for the RS version .......optimizing bigger or taller wing or some added / changed front aero biased for the track costs mostly wind  tunnel time but their experienced folks can do it in their sleep and .....small tweeks to electric steering or yaw control software and such and voila , GT4RS, for  homoligation and would be easy to crank out in parallel with remaining GT4 orders until 981.1 is concluded . So even a small run of them is profitable , certainly not a money loser ,

I suspect all the above was done concurrently with regular GT4 development so it is just a matter of market timing if an RS has always been part of the plan , with the former model's specing simply being " dialed back " .

For example, the HP upgrade for the 991 GTS is just an other engine mapping (including an other exhaust system of course)

Which GTS are you referring to? The 991 GTS which "shares" the 3.8l engine from the GT4 but with X51 which is far more than just a software remap... or the 981 GTS which has a different 3.4l engine than the GT4 where the software remap achieved +10hp?

Unless the GT4 is heavily detuned, which I doubt, I think it will be optimistic to see output higher than 400hp with only a software remap.

    Re: Cayman GT4 RS

According to RS magasine the detuned engine in the GT4 is due to a problem fitting the larger intakes etc.... from the standard 991 S engine . The engine as it is in the carrera does not fit into the Cayman

Yes, this was mentioned in a few reviews earlier this year too. But I don't know if they all quote each other indecision The 6-chamber intake from the X51 package apparently does not fit yes

we are making it too complicated ...the GT4 engine prob produces minimum of , say, 395 hp, but is officially listed as 385 ...if GT4RS sees  light of day, even if using idetical motor and ECU tune, Porsche can simply list its official power as , say , 390 hp . They will simply give a carefully scripted vague answer to how they came up with the " extra " power .

Naaaaah, they would never do that! Smiley After all this is a company who said they would never build a diesel again and that PDK in a GT-car is for grandmothers... oh, wait... Smiley

RUF put the standard X51 911 motor in Boxsters and reckon it makes the same hp on the dyno.. yes

I mean the 991 GTS. From what I've been told, intake, exhaust and mainly software mapping making the difference in comparison to the "standard" 991 Carrera S. Right?
