Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    Carlos from Spain:

If a 720S and a Performante are side by side and were allowed to grab the keys I would not even look to the 720S, would go straight to the Performante.

The720S may be faster in a straight line, but you can't really use the difference in the real world public roads, except for short acceleration bursts at high speed in the highway were the 720S may pull away from a Performante, but that gets boring quick, maybe impressed by it when I was younger and starting to experience cars it was exiting, but not now nor do I care about bragging rights (and if I want real jaw dropping acceleration I can buy a sportbike).

The rest of the time the Performante is the car to drive and enjoy, the sound, tge rawness and that glorious engine... it's like comparing a half pound hamburger with a quarter pound steak, the hamburger meat give you more meat but the steak is in a different class.

    Very well said... Smiley

I like the 720S a lot but I think people are mostly impressed by the sheer power, straight line performance and of course that amazing exotic sportscar feel the car provides. I also like McLaren's sense for details...

It would be definitely in my dream car garage (if I could afford one Smiley).

I get yr Point - and most of us have to make a living "a side" so having a Sport or Supersport car is a luxury and everbody ticks differently to what makes him/her happy. I have also realized that the more experiences you have (I had a trackday with a 458 Challenge in Brandshatch 2 weeks ago) with SSportcars the more you find yr "niche" of what makes you smile but equally it is frustrating how fast things have evolved lately and makes you crave for the next one. With the 720S it went to another Level Performance wise but since I don't make Money with Motorsport (eventhough we're Sponsoring the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany) it became also pretty pointless of how fast a car is.wink

True but at some point, your driving skills will be so good that you can compensate for the lack of power. Smiley Not under all circumstances of course, a 720S will always be faster on the Autobahn than 90% of most sportscars out there, incl. super sportscars but the Autobahn is not really fun. When I was younger, I was doing high speed runs in early mornings because it wasn't dark anymore and traffic was low. Sundays were my favorite high speed days. Now I am 52 and I couldn't care less how fast I drive. I just drive as fast as possible but not more (intentional and enjoyable) high speed runs for the purpose of achieving high speeds. They are pointless for me now. I guess I'm getting old. Smiley

The Huracan Performante is one of the last of it's breed and it has been refined for the track (despite the fact that they do not offer...yet...professional racing gear/equipment for the car), this is what fascinates me about this car. McLaren fascinates me when it comes to exotic looks, love for detail and...performance. I admire them for succeeding in a very tough car market with (kind of) unique products I always expected from Porsche instead. Smiley

I never thought I'd say that but I would be embarrassed to have everbody looking at me just because I have the loudest most aggressive looking "look at me" car.

Same yourself some money and just put the new Trofeo Rs on a normal Huracan. Viola, you get most of the Performante.

Hmm, I really think that you can't drive unnoticed in any McLaren. The only difference to Ferrari or Lamborghini is that the latter add some kind of Italian grandezza. If you want to go stealth, the normal choice is a Porsche Turbo.

Not really but thats a different story.

If I'd hate the rear wing on the Performante, I would get a Huracan instead though, right.

Also, the 800+ hp supercharger kit seems to be pretty reliable from what I heard, performance would be not the same as the 720S but close to it. Not a fan of tuned cars (anymore) though, so... Smiley

IMO, this is the ideal exotics for the younger crowd, 30s to early 40s. You can fit your girlfriend and your dog/child. Or maybe just two friends.

Would be best in Spider form I think.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I hope McLaren realize that there are needs for 3 seater sports cars and provide this as a regular model instead of limited series.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I'm not sure 3 seaters would meet global safety regulations. If you had to exclude a major market like the US, it simply wouldn't be viable.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Does anyone know when the 720 Spider shows up? A friend of mine is interested, factory asks for a 150k deposit (January 2018 deadline) to get one but they told him "earliest March/April 2019". This is a little bit too late for him, since he already sold his 12C Spider.

Any hints (more than just rumors would be great)? Thanks.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

18 - 24 months from now. 570S demos showed up in late 2015, and 570S Spiders are just showing up now as well. I would expect the same for the 720S. They will not launch the 720S Spider as quickly as they did for P11.

The factory would absolutely not ask for a $150K deposit on a car that isn't even launched yet. I've never heard of anything like that for a normal car. They haven't even asked for that kind of deposit on P15 yet, which is essentially the next P1.

$30K in damage for that? Doubtful. I'd also say that the owner is as fault. Parking your car near livestock like that and complaining about damage is pretty ridiculous.

I suspect @RC might have added a 0 by mistake

The first deposit for the P15 is actually a little over $150K

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Has P15 allocation finished in the UK? Did they determine how limited it will be yet?

I am not privy to that information, but the deposit figure in terms of initial amount is out on the internet ( and reliable rather than rumour).

No, that guy is one of the first German customers (12C and then 12C Spider) and has a direct contact at the factory, he never went to a dealer. Which could be true since the McLaren dealer in Munich (I know the general manager from his Porsche times...) never heard of him or his car and it seems to have been common practice in the "early" days to sell cars to customers directly. Of course he could be lying (he is a neighbor and friend but we are not very close) but he is a well respected gynecologist here, so... Smiley Also, he is not someone really caring about performance or dealerships, he just wants the car and he loves McLaren.
