Yes they did as always in their supertest:

    > front: 63 kg

    > rear: 72 kg

    As comparaison, values front/rear for other models: 488GTB (82/123), GT2RS (49/93), Performante (52/86), AMG GTR (-33/54)

    Many thanks.

I found a copy of the test on the German Car Forum but I don't understand German, could you explain to me why the dyno test stopped at 6600rpm ? Is it because they had found the peak ?

the used Maha LPS 3000 dyno has to small rolls and therfore to much slip. They were forced to test the car in 6 gear instead of fifth gear because of the slip. But same dyno is limited to 300kmh max therefor the stop at 6600 RPM

That explains it, also explains the inflated 830NM torque readings, the LPS3000 like most roller based dynos is not good at measuring peak torque.

Interesting test of 720S with track pack (not a huge change) by Catchpole.  His conclusions:  power is addictive, but maybe too much to enjoy in the real world?  and Sport series is for him the sweet spot in the range, with the best steering too.

Reflecting on the 720s I felt that the high power at the rear axle brings back what was lost with the technological advances in most modern sports cars: the feeling of the driver making the difference. In particular when the roads are not in ideal condition (moisture etc.) this car demands so much control from the driver (in terms of deciding how much power can still be used without risking too much) that it nearly feels a bit like a super sportscar from the 80s. Maybe this is a good thing, not sure. But it felt special Smiley

Whilst I do agree with him I'm not sure he is right (with the bit I quote) for most people as the 570S has already a huge amount of power and acceleration, 0-200kph in 8.5s

I doubt he ever really wrung the 720 out to 8200rpm on the road during his test, those roads are totally unsuitable way to bumpy he may have managed a flat out 1st to 2nd gear change but really it is difficult to really use the 720's extra (over the 570) power on the road especially bumpy ones like that.

Ah yes, but Wales is so photogenic... many of the UK tests seem to prefer it, sheep and all.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

"Two neon pink McLaren 720S GT3s will race in Japan this year"

    (30 January 2019)

With every new year comes a whole host of different motorsport announcements about who will be racing where and in what cars. Usually this news goes pretty much unnoticed until the start of said racing season, but this year manufacturers have been going all out to make sure their cars are noticed.

As you’ll well know by now, one way to get our attention here at TG is to slap a retro livery on your car, and McLaren has done just that – with this eye-popping 720S GT3 that will compete over in Japan this year.

The neon pink and graphite colours were first used back in 1996, when they adorned the iconic F1 GTR that dominated the All-Japan Grand Touring Championship – and this updated version certainly isn’t a quiet tribute.

    1548883718393image.jpeg

Simply throwing on some retro paint seemingly wasn’t enough for McLaren though, so they’re also providing some former team members to complete the throwback. Legendary owner Kazumichi Goh will once again take the reins as team principal, and Hiroyoshi Donuma will return as chief engineer.

To be known as ‘McLaren Customer Racing Japan’, the 2019 team will run cars in the Super GT300 and Super Taikyu championships, with both then coming together to launch a two-pronged attack on the 10 hours of Suzuka.

Sound advice. Thanks Nick. I think RC gave me the mid engine bug with his R8. Also concerned about maintenance cost on the TT but on the other hand I could not use it as my DD like the TT.

Or could I?  How much could I lose?  Keep in mind that what you see in the picture is a special carbon black car in a wrap with almost one year of warranty for only $117k with 13k miles. Plus new tires - lol. It would be a fun DD - life is too short to not have such fun. Getting in and out I have idea what a pain in the ass that would be in long run. Might keep me young.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Go for it. I had a manual 997.1 TT and stepped up to a MP4-12C Spider. You cant compare these two cars. The TT is an awesome allrounder for shure (i maybe go for a 992 TTS) but the 12C is on an other level. Excitement pure everytime i drive it.

I agree, the 720S is a car which challenges the driver (if he wants it to be challenging him...) but it really has serious traction issues (depending on the driving mode/traction control setup you're using). Wonderful Autobahn car, wonderful toy for people who love a challenge but otherwise, way overpowered in my opinion.

I seriously considered the 720S (and the 600LT) before I ordered the Performante but came to the conclusion that I have different priorities. Also, to be honest, I had/have a very good relationship to the Lambo sales guy, general manager and the whole crew there, this makes a big difference as well.

You can get a decent 12C with dealer warranty for around 100-120k EUR in Germany, so no worries.

One thing I learned is that the extended warranty (even when from McLaren directly) does not cover failures at a track.  Just original new car warranty...

This is really poor from McL as a track-focussed brand and not giving to potential customers the warm feeling that quality of their cars is right.

I wouldn't go so far to say that I would prefer it over the Senna but since I cannot afford the Senna, the 600LT is spot on. Very nice offer from McLaren, the car even sounds good (better than 720S). Still those issues with turbo lag though, not my cup of tea, sorry.

In this price range, not many (good) cars available though, so the 600LT is a great offer.

Obviously, McLaren didn’t reveal much else about the car, which it  describes as a rule-breaking “Grand Tourer” and “the most usable  mid-engined car yet.” It will also be the only one to share its DNA with  the https://www.carscoops.com/2019/03/mclaren-speedtail-has-a-menacing-growl-even-when-its-maneuvering/"Speedtail Hyper-GT  and will feature an interior that “will feel spacious, uncluttered and  modern with only authentic, high-quality materials employed.”
