Well... This is my very personal opinion. I am not against off topic posts but, this is way too much IMHO.

This is thread about 991.2 and future Porsche models. NOT about Tesla and Suburban or some other piece of crap. You guys fucked up this thread big time. What's next? Discussion about hybrid tech in city public transportation?

You could start new thread about electric/hybrid tech and discuss it there till end of time...

Seems to be common trait around here. I had a couple of guys go bananas over cameras ans camera lenses in a 24h Le Mans thread. Go figure!Smiley

Keep a thread pure and then it won't transmute into a grand discussion about everything and anything.

Can we have a thread about keeping thread pure? Kind of a meta-thread?

Remember, creativity often comes from going off on tangents.

Transmute, as change form or alter, is correct.

Transmogrify: transform, especially in a surprising or magical manner.

Well, I for one would never have expected that we'd be debating whether 'transmute' or 'transmogrify' more aptly describes what happened, so, in that regard, it's certainly surprising.

Does anybody have the timeline for the new 991.2 and 992 model range?  And for that matter what about 981.2 and 982?

The press seem to be suggesting both 991 and Cayman/Boxster facelifts are both due out later this year? That cant be right can it - surely Porsche wouldn't facelift all their sports car models in the same year? yes

The facelift for the 997 and 987 were both for Model Year 2009, but 997 came a few months earlier.  Probably gonna be similar this time - 991.2 shown in the Fall 2015 (Frankfurt Sept. 17) and 981.2 shown early 2016 (987.2 was Feb 21, 2009).

No, unfortunately not. The rumor seems to have spread to various (internet/press) publications but everyone seems to fantasize in a different way about it. Smiley

Truth is: Right now, Porsche has to downsize engines and they seem to keep the n/a engine range limited to the low production (vs. Carrera models) number GT3 RS. There is room for a special edition n/a Carrera RS model but I doubt this car would be cheaper than the GT3 RS, on the contrary.

Time will tell but I think Porsche has a good run right now with the GT3 RS and the GT4 and this may take a while...

Yes, the Boxster/Cayman updated twins probably will debut at the North American Auto Show, or even at Los Angeles.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Regarding future GT models (eg GT2 ect), the evolving regulations in terms of the GTE class may have some bearing on that, as turbo-charged engines will probably dominate going forward, starting in 2016.

It remains to be seen if the combination of N/A and hybrid tech ( a la LMP1) makes it into the next gen 911 and/or it GT variants, or maybe some sort of 960 model.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

To be blunt, I'm not so sure what I want to see first from Porsche: A nice and roomy "Panamera" Coupe (well, you get my point what I mean, some sort of 928 successor) a la BMW 6 series or Mercedes S Coupe or a "960"? Tough one.

    A 960 please.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

928 successor is more attractive from a corporate point of view. Platform is already there and market is already there.

960 will be great news for us enthusiasts but the market is not big enough yet. Nor will it be cheap to develop. They need a new engine and new or modify the Huracan platform.

Yeah, a 960 could be a really exciting offering if done right.  I imagine there will be several versions with AWD, RWD, NA, Turbos, Hybrid, etc.

I just hope one of those versions is a lightweight RWD motorsport type product with NA Flat-8 that revs to at least 9k rpm, has a manual gearbox option, and hydraulic steering (pump driven by electric motor like all the 911 factory race cars of recent decades).  I would sell the house for that Smiley

Not sure a sizable market exists for a 928 successor even if it is more attractive from corporates point of view.

I think the next generation Panamera platform will support potential brand extension - Panamera Coupe.

Yes and the Porsche developed MSB platform should be the foundation of the next generation of Bentleys.  However, the great looking Bentley concept car is on Audi's MLB architecture.

I agree ....MBZ S-class coupes and BMW 6 series coupes are a very rare bird in my upscale environs and from purely a thought experiment standpoint, if Tesla were to build a sleek Tesla S coupe on their same sedan chassis, it would outsell these 2- door  offerings from MBZ, BMW ( and Porsche )  500 to 1 around here in Silicon Valley Smiley

Interesting how Silicon Valley is different to the North East. I see lots of BMW 6-series, MB CLS and now MB S-coupe everyday in my neighborhood...

Drove Tesla lately again and it is by far the worst car in drive dynamics that I drove in last 20 years or so. Total POC.
