Finally pulled the trigger!
I had been trying to get an allocation for a GTS 4 Cab since April 23, in the meantime I prepared an alternative build, using a C 4S with X51, Black Natural Leather (Leather to Sample) and Deviated Carmine Red Stitching, which was looking pretty good.
I tried to rationalize that the performance would be very similar and I couldn’t imagine that the in the end they would be too different. I also thought that it would be a relief not to have the lower clearance of the GTS and I could get leather seats. And I could get the Carrera S wheels in Platinum Satin for an additional $1,100, instead of the $11,000 that they asked me for to include it in the GTS. Still the GTS was pulling me in…
I had checked around a couple of weeks ago and there were a few GTS available, but not how I wanted to order them. The Cabs seemed to in even shorter supply. So a couple of days ago I reached out to Porsche Princeton, where I had bought my first car and tried it again. The first feedback was that it would be nearly impossible to get a GTS 4 Cab. I told them to try their best and if not possible we would go with the backup option, the C 4S cab. About two hours later I get a text message. They got a GTS 4 Cab, but I only had the next day to make any changes. By then I must have spent 20-30 hours on the configurator, and it got more and more expensive, but I knew what I wanted. The last decision was on the color. I was thinking about Lava Orange or Jet Black. My wife vetoed the Lava Orange (and I think she was right), so I went with the Jet Black. I got a good deal on my trade in, $47K for a 2006 C 4S GT Silver with X51 and terracotta leather and a 7% discount on the GTS.
After a lot of going back and forth, I ordered the GTS 4 Cab with PDK (still with some trepidation), PCCB, Burmester, LED Headlights in Black, Multifunction wheel (hoping that I may be able to retrofit the Macan style wheel) and a whole lot of leather. I plan to keep my car for a long time so I’m not concerned with the depreciation.
I think the car will be a stunner, if I may say so, and I know that it may be one of the last NA 911s. The good news is that delivery from the dealership is estimated for August 28
