    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

@ MikeS, m4ever, Nananod: big congrats to all of you - great Spyders. Thanks for uploading the pics of these beauties SmileyMeanwhile I did the ceramic coating thing - very happy with the result SmileyThe car had quite some ugly swirls already...These non metallic pop colours are almost as bad as black in this respect. Should be much better now with the coating. At least the PTS shows much less orange peel than the standard colours according to my detailer.

For now I have only a crappy IPhone pic, but still you can see the nice effect from the coating (and no, these clouds are no polish defects) Smiley

Thanks PorscheJeck! I also did ceramic on my car. What a difference it makes. Paint looks amazing, is more scratch resistant and it makes the car remarkably easy to clean! smiley

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

After 300 Km Alpine passes - first impression:

great handling, grip and suspension, a little nervous at the rear, but great fun.

What a sound!! But at the end of the day I switched off the exhaust - too much.

The steering is a little bit too light and the gearing too long, so nothing new here...Smiley

Overall a wonderful and emotional car,

Many thanks for the great pics, blueflame Smiley Looking forward to the next batch of pics from your Alpine tour.

Will be a tough benchmark for me as I'll be at exactly the same place by the end of next week (two and a half weeks Alpine tour - already very much looking forward to it) Smiley I am glad to read that you are happy with the new toy - your driving impressions are mirroring my own experiences so far (now 4,000 km on the clock). The PSE on my 981S already made my ears bleeding in the "gallerias" - must be crazy with the Spyder Smiley On the long gearing: I never had a car in which I used 1st gear that often (guess it will be even more often with all these hairpins in the Alps) Smiley

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

And i'm happy too!!! The weather in Belgium (ouest-flanders) was pretty good yesterday. (25 degrees celcius) We took the spy for a spin of app 120kms around flanders fields. The car stays just amazing (5000km by now) but more important: The mss starts to get along better with it, since she enjoyed it a lot on the B-roads and drove it herself for a while. She's always arguing i'm going to wreck the car and myself by driving too fast on desolate B-roads... But i've countered this one by finely making the remark she was driving at laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargely the speed of highways on a rather small, but open road... She was surprised  when looking at the tacho... saying auch.... this feels not too fsat at all... smiley

Great trip and thanks for sharing the photos... Smiley

I have a big favor to ask: Do you have some sort of driving route map to provide for us?

We are planning to do some sort of Rennteam drive in summer (maybe around end of July) on a weekend where we could replicate this route...I guess this could be fun.

    Thanks! Smiley

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

Question for Spyder owners (or 981 owners):  As I don`t drive my Spyder very often, I plugged one of my CTEK trickle chargers  into the cigarette lighter socket ; in my other older Porsches works fine ,  but on the Spyder the charging stops after approximately 30 minutes . Conversely when the CTEK is connected directly to the Spyder battery , the charger works correctly. I wrote a note to my Porsche dealer but still did not receive any reply.  Any ideas ?

On my GTS I connect the charger to the socket in the cubby box on the rear of the centre console. It works fine on mine and doesn't cut out - my car is on Porsche charge-o-mat life support (which is a  CTEK charger) nearly all winter! Smiley

As far as I recall the cigarette lighter socket is isolated automatically by the car's system after a limited time to minimise power loss - which would also prevent charging through it.

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

Thank you for your feedback Dreamcar, much appreciated . I did try with all three available sockets ,sadly with the same negative results. I wonder whether I need to purchase the Porsche branded CTEK (i.e. Charge-O-Mat) in order to use  the sockets. On a sidenote the same happens with my Macan Turbo (but this one gets driven so not an issue).

Strange - the only thing I can think of is my dealer did advise to follow the correct procedure which is 1) Connect charger and switch on, (CTEK probably the same set charger to car) then lock car after all connected up and charging.

Other than that can't help, apart from labelling I'd be surprised if there is any difference in the chargers. Smiley Mine is 10 years old.

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

Thank you Dreamcar, will try with your procedure (i.e. switch on > connect > switch off) . Until now I had the ignition off when I plugged the charger. Let`s see if it works for me too. Will report back.

    Re: Boxster Spyder News?

for newer Porsches, the cigarette light plugs will NOT work for plug in battery charging.

you need to buy a separate connector (from Porsche parts dept) that clip directly onto + and - ends of battery.

I gave up using cigarette lighters for charging all my cars, going directly to the engine bay or having dedicated connector works better...

It works on my GT4, but you have to turn on/off the ignition with the key in the right sequence for it to keep working longer than a few minutes...

Interesting. Smiley  In that case there would appear to have been some problems somewhere which prompted Porsche to recently build some protection into the charging circuit.   Smiley

My car was built in January 2015 and using the accessory socket NOT the cigarette lighter socket works perfectly. When the charger is connected even the minute drop in current caused by lifting a door handle causes the charger to switch from trickle charge to full charge for a few minutes. I've plugged into the cigarette lighter socket a couple of times by mistake (this was how the 997/2 charged) and it does not work at all.

Same with my 2016 Spyder and our 2016 GT3RS - CTEK works only when connected directly to the battery.

There are some holes in the black plastic cover in the front trunk above the battery, you can guide this through:

    http://www.ctek.com/de/de/chargers/Comfort%20Indicator%20Eyelet%20M6

    works perfect with our cars.
