I was there yes, it was a good day organised by McLaren, Bruno Senna took me for a spin in the P1 GTR, nice car, very capable track car, but not that much faster than a GT3 to be honest, except in a straight line. The LT is nice, fantastic driving position, you can tell Mclaren has put a lot of work in the details. The car I really liked was the 570S, looks prettier and the specs are nice.

Biggest let down of all these cars was the noise they make, including the P1. Put it this way, when I was lapping in my F1, you couldn't hear the other cars. They sounds very muted and awful. They sound much better from the inside but exhaust noire, very disappointing. Shame for a supercar.

    Re: Mclaren 570S/540C Sport Series

Such is turbo engines. If they can't make turbo F1 cars sound great, then there probably isn't much hope for road cars any time soon. They can be made loud, but that's about it.

Totally agree with you on the inside vs outside aspect of it. Regardless of the engine, the noise inside the cabin is a far cry from the outside, which isn't exactly surprising when you consider that the noise has to go through a lot more than just air to get to you. I think a lot of people hear the exhaust sounds on YouTube revving and fly-by videos, and think that's what it sounds like inside the car. If you then watch in-cabin footage on a track, it's waaaay different and way louder than you'd think.

When the 12C is in "loud" mode and I'm at high revs, it's a lot louder inside the cabin that the exterior exhaust noise would lead you to believe.

I really like the 570S and would buy one if I didn't have a 12C. Think I'll wait a year or so and see what the price action is on them since I don't really need one right now anyway. I think residuals will be significantly better than the previous cars. 12C prices in the US leveled out a ton at $170-190K, which is near the base price of the 570S, so that alone should make a big difference.

    Re: Mclaren 570S/540C Sport Series

Ok, did some research on prices for German market.

    Cars are with similar options.

    991 Turbo S Coupe 202400€

R8 V10 Plus 205440€(with Laser lights and all CF trim is standard)

570S 203015€(no CF but otherwise full options)

488 GTB 226876€(apart from racing seats very mild options)

    Hmm...

    Re: Mclaren 570S/540C Sport Series

It will be interesting to see where the prices for those cars line up in 10 years.  Which is the classic in that group? The Audi actually has a shot with that NA V10...

R8 V10 Plus has some, IMHO very important items like conventional sport suspension and mechanical 40% lock rear LSD that can prove to be more long lasting on the long run. Also, it is the only car in the group that merges old and new tech.

    Re: Mclaren 570S/540C Sport Series

None are classics. NA V10 isn't new, so I don't see why anyone would care about it now more than before.

But "very mild options" for a 488 doesn't mean naked, like with almost every Porsche model. Smiley

Of course the level of standard options for a Ferrari was even better in earlier days, but you get some pretty nice equipped cars right from the factory. Ferrari just learned to play the very expensive-exclusive-bespoke options-game over the years.

Or let's put it this way: if you can live without CF-gadgets (I can) and stay away from the pricey special paints, your "basic" Ferrari will still look very nice. Add some money for bucket seats, forged wheels, shields (if you like) and minor technical equipment and you will be more than happy (and this will result in the 227k that Kreso mentioned).

I'm afraid so. Also, I think that the (used) Audi will be the most affordable as well, unless of course demand is very hight and people want the NA V10 engine. I am actually pretty serious about getting the previous model at some point (not the current one) if I can get one with less than 30k km for under 70k EUR in a year or two. Smiley

Huracan is not on my list because it is technically inferior car to new R8.

R8 has new, specially cooled front diff, different-more capable rear diff and suspension that is way more capa le then Huracan one.

In short-I can accept that some likes Huracan design. Just, buying a car in this class and accepting its technical shortcomings is something that I am more or less not willing to do.

    Re: Mclaren 570S/540C Sport Series

Hate to bring the subject up again but in resale the R8 is probably the worst - based on current assessment. Although 458 have dropped hugely here in CH as well as McLaren's. Highest Chance of "flipping" the car after a couple of years is probably 488 and 991TTS

Alonso is a new test driver for McLaren/Honda. He's bounced around to and from several F1 teams over the years. He hopes to get a regular drive next year, but for now he's stuck tooling around the track in prototypes, "looking like an amateur."
