I must've been lucky in Germany - never had any problem with Manual with 6k km (visiting other countries as well, but mostly Autobahn).

Yes there was occasionally traffic, but not the kind that made me want pdk.

I did grow up in Los Angeles though Smiley

You were lucky but I have to admit that I rarely encounter situations where there is such a serious (and slowly moving) traffic jam on the Autobahn. I know LA traffic well, a real horror at times. Once it took me and my friends over 6 hours from LA to San Diego.

I am happy to share with you that after a hopeless wait I have been awarded a July building slot for a GT4. It has been a interesting process, since I was thoroughly examined to certify my readiness to buy such a demanded car. Guess my track record of modern Porsches that I have bought have made a difference.

As many of you have shared with us, Porsche is now carefully evaluating candidates for their GT cars. I had given up and considered a manual 991.2, but this news have changed the backup plan!

i am still deciding on the configuration, but right now is a Guards red, 918 buckets, red seat belts and interior trimming, CD-R Plus and Bluetooth, and climate control.

Guess it is going to be an amazing summer!

    Thanks guys!

What a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday! A 991.2 made more sense from the family perspective, we are three at home. But the GT4 reminds me of my former 997 GT3 RS: that manual gearbox, direct, noisy... And a little bit more refined (SC, not a minor factor...) and discrete.

I am turning 50 this October.  Does that mean I HAVE to add a GT4 to my stable ? I would love that , but don't know how to justify it ....

The only thing which would make more sense in Spain is probably a 991 Cab but if you have other cars to choose from, you are going to be fine. Right now, I still think that the best Porsche family car is a Cayenne Turbo S. Smiley

However, I never understood why apparently more people are driving a 911 Cab in Germany than in sunny Spain. Smiley

The GT4 is still a little bit on my mind but it wouldn't make sense for me. Still...a very attractive offer from Porsche, not easy to pass over for a Porsche enthusiast like me.

I will have the chance to drive the GT4 Clubsport for 2 days at Portimao in February to see if I like it.If so I will probably enter two races in the Porsche Sportscup with my mate, planned are Hockenheim and Red Bull Ring. The car looks like good value for money, especially also in terms of running costs because the Cup parts are a well known quantity, no mis-shifts possible due to PDK and standard engine configuration.

Clubsport should be a nice option - good reports from early time trials in US...

Since I have driven PDK on track for the first time in 2014 I'm converted as far as track driving concerns. Especially since I had a money shift during a VLN race which cost me a new engineSmiley

Cabrios sell probably more in cold countries then in hot countries .  Why I am in South Africa , I hardly see any cabrios . Why wife, who are up in hot sunny country, does not want sun on her head or face . She said she had enough of it . I am sure most people in hot countries think the same .

Agree.  In Los Angeles, I only take the top off my Lotus when the weather is moderate to warm.  In hot summer, it isn't too fun, even with A/C.

This is why Boxster Spyder never interested me.

That's right. When you hardly get to see the sun, you are more inclined to make the most of it when it does shine.

Smiley Me and my wife hate cold and it gets worse the older we get. My wife has the dilemma that she loves skiing but hates snow and the cold, she suffers like an animal while she is skiing and especially afterwards. One reason she learned water skiing and wake boarding, just in case she won't see the mountains too often anymore in the future. Smiley

I do not drive my cab with the top open at 0°C, like many Germans do (for whatever crazy reason) but whenever there is sun and the temperature gets over let's say 12°C or so, the top is open because the warm sun usually "covers" the cold and I can improve the feeling by switching the A/C to maximum heat and turning the heated seats on.

I do not understand people in warm countries: There is A/C in houses/condos and at work. Why wouldn't you want to enjoy the sun in the car? Smiley I barely sweat at temperatures below 35-45°C Smiley, so maybe this is an advantage but I only close the top on the car when it gets really cold.

It is also not true that people from warm countries hate the sun, I know a couple of people who are born in hot climates and they prefer the heat as well. Probably depends on the individual, the skin color, sensitivity to sun, sweating, etc.. Smiley

Also, lots of cabriolets in Florida, so there is no excuse for not driving one in Spain or Portugal. Maybe more of a mentality thing?! Smiley

They do not hate the heat , RC, it's only the sun that they do not want on them , they still like the heat .

Id like to see you not break a sweat here today RC. Its summer. 34C 96% humidity. Only way you do not break sweat in my country is you not move a muscle :-)
