I don’t think the 981 market will drop too much. There will likely be steeper depreciation on the 718. The two cars aren’t alike, by the way. There are tons of videos on YouTube explaining the differences with driving impressions, and most if not all say the 981 would be the preferred car of the two.

it already dropped, a 981 GT4 was above 110KE...the 718 will follow the same curve. You need to be ready to absorb another depreciation as current economic situation will just make the sports car market tank like never we felt before.Smiley

The good thing is real enthusiasts will be able to get good sports cars for a more reasonable price and enjoy them without having to worry about losing a lot in depreciation - if they survive the virus... It will be just like ‘the good old days’ again when we bought cars to enjoy them!

I bought mine to drive it too. It is a driver’s car after all Smiley Far from the fastest, but one of the most involving. If that experience can be made without a massive depreciation then that is obviously a plus.

There is a lot more demand in the USD 80-100 bracket than the USD 180-200 bracket. A lot more people can afforded a GT4 than a GT3 or other 911 derivate. Hence I think the 981 GT4 prices will remain stable. There are plenty of enthusiasts to whom this car is attractive and affordable.

Cause Porsche made about 500 too many of the Speedsters, if not 1000.

Take away the flippers, there aren't that big a market for it.

aparently in CH 718 GT4 don't do well - my friend who got zero % rebate  when ordering from the PZ is hugely pissed off as their new unsold allocations are being given now with big % due to lack of demand. Of course they told him first it will be super rare but right after his delivery 2 more came asap prefigured......guess P is pushing them out. Same with spyders - easy to buy here. Nothing in the Pline anymore keeps its value..... - unless you buy to keep for a long time and configure as per yr liking - there is no need to buy new anymore.....

In Germany, a guy I know got a nice discount on a GT4 Sports Cup Edition model. Very surprising.

On the other hand, that 991 GT3 I (or better said my wife) was interested in, was already sold. Only days after we test-drove it.

if the 718 is overpriced the market will correct the residuals and i totally agre that too much supply exists. However that is good news for the ones thay buy second hand.

I don't understand why some people buy a car for the next owner by not using it enough during their own ownership.

If you buy a Ferrari or similar by definition you must be very rich. Losing some thousands of whatever currency by properly using the car should be neither here nor there. It is the cost for one of the extravagances that goes with a rich person's lifestyle.

I think that if someone is wary of depreciation,  this person cannot really afford the car.

I read a somewhat different message in there. Maybe he wants to upgrade to a new model, if the price difference exceeds the benefits the new one gives you will think twice.

Financially this is mostly the case. The new models don't offer much more realistic benefits especially after the novelty wears off, if you take the additional outlay into account.

However, these are calculations and considerations for ordinary people. e.g. "do I buy a new 992 Carrera or keep my older 911 and use the money for other things?"

But if you are a rich person able  to acquire a €300.000 automobile counting the beans for a replacement I don't understand.  Just do what catches your fancy.

I don't know, maybe I am wrong yes

Speedster should just be about 50% more than the GT3, but not double.

As good as it drives, it costs too much for its performance.

I remember contacting my Lambo dealer late 2018 making an inquiry about the S and SVJ and the salesman insisted the S is discontinued and the SVJ sold out already.

I decided to head back to my Ferrari dealer and told the salesman, thank you for helping me save my money and he didn't like my reply at all Smiley

Now (2020) there are a couple of brand new SVJ's sitting in their showroom, not sure who would order and cancel at the last moment Smiley

New sales people are nothing but scumbags, they don't bother to check your history. It's happening a lot with VW owned high-end brands.

I sold my 2016 981 Spyder after two years back to my OPC around list price...and they sold it for over list to a customer.

Now 2 years later the car ist back at their showroom for the same price...insane. The 981 Spyder and GT4 prices are even more rock solid,  after the 781 Spyder/GT4 introduction.

It seems that a lot of customers feel the same like me after the test drive with the new generation...broken heart no exhaust sound at all and you can hardly feel the power increase.

I still think, that the 981 Spyder is one of the best Porsche products ever.

Took it out for a good run today on some roads I used to ride my motorcycles on. The exhaust note is amazing, and I much prefer the sound over the 991.2 C2S/C4S that I drove, both with PSE. Driving around in 30 degree weather with the windows down just to hear the downshifts could become my new hobby. indecision

The car seems a little tail happy which is a nice surprise. It has Cup 2 tires on it now, and although they have more than half their life remaining, they are original. Another set is on the way, but I think I'll use these up a bit before I put them on. The steering feel is top notch, better than anything else I've ever driven, and it takes sharp corners effortlessly. Getting in and out of the buckets is not easy, and it's best to do so with nobody watching.

Yes, the exhaust note is truly special. I took mine out for a spin today too, 32C degrees and windows down. The howl under full throttle is intoxicating and the blips on the downshifts addictive. I am also happy to be back in a car that does not have programmed “farts” on the overrun.

@Duckie - Thanks. I think it's the most analogue Porsche since the 993. The 718 is already starting to tilt in the opposite direction IMHO. This car should be a keeper.

@Blue - wink Thanks for your answers previously as well. And agreed.

    @Missle - Thanks, it's a joy to drive.

Mid engine car, they like to rotate, very unlike the rear engine 911 where it doesn't want to rotate much.

The key is rotate, not sliding out. Both might feel tail happy but they are different. Unless you drive it stupidly, the tail stays, the car is just more eager to change direction, if that make sense.

As for getting out of buckets, right hand on the 12o'clock of the steering wheel for leverage, left hand on the chair side to push up. Left leg out, and push off with the right hand to get the upper body outside the car and also help rotate your body to get the right leg out too. I think I have mastered this dance since 2014Smiley

For sure the 981 Spyder is amazing - it was more fun than my 991 RS! Be patient these cars cannot stay around list price forever, they will come down as the other sports cars are coming down. It’s worth waiting for a decent price then driving it and enjoying it :)
