Over 2000km now. Car is brilliant. Great fun and perfect toy on mountain roads. Driving position is perfect. Auto blip on downshift is great! Shame on me... Downsides: ratios are too long and engine is too linear.

Very nice indeed - the best colour! Smiley

From memory, pre data loss didn't you spec the silver wings originally?  Did you get them painted afterwards or is my memory incorrect.

Either way I see that Porsche has now made 208 "Wings in Black" a standard spec item in the last couple of days, and it cannot be removed / replaced by silver wings.

He is a very good driver. Certainly knows his car well!

More than anything else watching that reminds me how much I would LOVE to drive Spa...

I am super excited to drive Spa in less than 2 months from now!

I drive Spa frequently, only a 90 min drive from here. It is an epic track, every gearhead should try it. kiss

The dealer painted them for free. It looks better in black.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Spa's awesome. I'm curious what he's driving though, with what gear ratios. Top end of 5th going into eau rouge?

Anybody seen this?  Looks like Porsche Centre Knokke in Belgium.  Wonder if this is a PAG kit.

I looked into the Martini decals for my GT4, but they are too overused now. Boring.

Yes, it does look like the 991 kit. It does not fit over/around the side intake.

Bluelines / Futch - Out of interest which tyres did you both get?  The Michelin's or the Dunlop's?

    Re: Cayman GT4

Anybody an idea yet, how to get the full 400 bhp (like in the 991S) or even more, without losing the characteristics of the GT4/Spyder engine? :-)

Maybe IPD "Competition" Plenum, different Airfilter.

Or even shorter gears 3,4,5,6 with single mass flywheel, is anything like that already available?

Michelin cup 2. Lots of grip and even on the wet it still grips. Actually it's too grippy for a fun car like the Cayman. With all systems off, it's too difficult to break traction on the road.

You really have to give it the full beans in first gear and traction breaks quite abruptly, cf mid engined car.

Yes, short gears 3rd through 6 are available, but for the road the stock 80mph 2nd gear is a big part of the problem and is captive on the mainshaft and not easily changed.

For a dual use car, I think a lower Ring and Pinion is needed (by itself or in combination with a changed 6th gear to restore Vmax if desired)

Yes. Buy another car with more than 400hp. It will be a better solution Smiley

Out of curiosity, are you already bored of the 385hp?

Cup 2 here too. Yes, insane amount of grip.

Nah, I don't see any other roadster under 100K that could be more fun than the Spyder, do you?Smiley

@Grant: Ok, there's a tuner in FL I think who offers the gearbox update?
Yes, you're right, the 2nd gear should be a problem too, VMAX wouldn't be important to meSmiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

so far, per my calls with them, none of the usual suppliers in USA plan to make a mainshaft with a proper low 2nd, as the market is not big enough to justify the expense.

Grant may have more recent news.  i gave up seeking a lower 2nd, it's in the hands of Sun, he's quite the fixer.cool

    Re: Cayman GT4

I understand the gt4 still uses the Intake plenum and maybe even throttle body from the 3.4L motor so it's breathing at the top end is compromised.  Fix that and an then change the tune to match and you will get 400+ Hp.

    Re: Cayman GT4

And void your warranty... Silly move... Unless the dealer does it himself?Smiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

No, there will not be any dealer mod that retains warranty. Better off waiting for GT4 RS.

If the GT4 Cup or RS uses a lower R&P, it is conceivable that putting that factory part into a GT4 might not void the warranty.

Safer to wait for an official Porsche statement or until after warranty though...

Guard Transmission makes 3rd through 6th and they are near me in Colorado.  Other reason to change 6th with R&P is to make highway driving more pleasant.

No R&P yet - they may eventually offer one.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the factory to offer a shorter final drive ratio for retrofitting. That would alter carbon emissions values and undermine Certification / Type Approval. Won't happen in today' s world.

Good point, but if they make an R&P for a race car, it's possible that it may be retrofittable (without official sanctioning or warranty).

Nah, I don't see many other roadsters in any price segment being more fun than the Spyder Smiley It is a great buy Smiley

Then again, I would not touch anything on the car. My GT4 will remain as it came from the factory. It does not need anything "extra". A few hp more will make zero difference, except than in your wallet Smiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

In terms of value for money, I would say the GT4 and the Spyder are the best sports cars money can buy today.

And I wouldn't change anything either, they're not perfect, but they're damn close.

    Re: Cayman GT4
