Whoopsy:baron:Whoopsy, Thanks for all the feedback you have provided for the RS! My car is supposed to be here next week. Couple of questions:
1) Do the red calipers match the lava orange well? My car has the same color combo and that's one of my concerns of not going with PCCB.
2) Is the stock exhaust adequate? How aggressive does it sound your Speciale or 918? I am looking into the side muffler bypass.
Congrats on getting the RS.
1), let's just say my eyes don't really focus on the red calipers, they don't really clash with the orange, personally I think the amber corner lens on my car clashes more badly. Realistically, neither the red nor yellow callipers goes well with the lava orange. I would have preferred black ones.
2) exhaust sound is very personal, my perception of too loud could be your normal. The 918 is definitely the loudest, with the exhaust 2 feet from my ears. The Speciale is loud and noisy, obnoxiously loud, annoyingly noisy. It's just noise most of the time. But at the upper revs it started to sound like music to the ear. The RS sounds nice enough even without pressing the exhaust button, at low revs I can still hear it but I can carry a normal conversation with the passenger. It gets louder with increasing revs, and sounds glorious that's for sure. But still the V12 in my F12 trumps them all.
Whoopsy:Gnil:A new from of pissing contest has just started . I will be happy to join in soon
You, we will have a healthy target to aim for: Top Gear did this:
That is indeed a nice target!
Lets see what the GT4 can achieve on the N-Ring GP track next week
2015 981 Cayman GT4 | White | Full Bucket Seats | Sport Chrono
2014 991 Carrera 4S | Dark Blue Metallic | PDK | Sport Chrono | SPASM
Whoopsy:CHEATER!!!!! Haha. Mine is all road!!
It does show the difference though between spirited road driving and laps on a track, regarding the discussion about squeaky brakes.

Apparently new RS contingent is coming!
We had an SLS gathering yesterday in Affalterbach. There was a Porsche enthusiast owning an RS, too. He told me that apparently after the summer brake - due to high demand - they will launch a second batch of RSes.... I asked how reliable that is, he said unfortunately (as owner he doesn't like the idea) this seems to be very sure - he was in Zuffenhausen the other day and they told him that.
Lars997:Whoopsy:I think I exercised the car properly though:
Are you afraid of right corners?
Actually the story was that a 458 refused to move over so I blow by it on the right side at quite 'brisk' pace.
After that he moved over the the right side and then disappeared into a speck in the mirror.
I had complete trust in the car, and my knowledge of the road from experience before in my other cars knowing how fast I could have done on that corner. That passing speed was my record speed but I guess the car's limit was still a bit beyond that.
I was a bit ticked off that I can't quite match it on straight line acceleration. he would pull away on the straights while i catch up and had to brake in the corners behind him. Granted I was missing 3k worth of rpm.
Peter,
I'm not surprised that Porsche Saudi wasn't helpful, I'll see later this week what kind of answer I will get from Porsche Lebanon. In Cyprus for me to import the car without paying customs, I would have to have it registered in Lebanon for min 6 months, and then import it here under a personal registration where I wouldn't be allowed to resell it, unless I paid customs and excise. The other option is to pay customs and excise right away, which is a lot in cyprus almost the same as in Lebanon and then use it as I want. I'm going to the customs office here to see what can be done and what the proper laws are, but first need to make sure I can order it RHD.
Keep you posted on what happens...
Whoopsy: Simple physics, the rear wheels gets a lot of help on weight transfers from the rear engine layout.
That means traction improves, the harder you accelerate. I wonder if the rumored new GT2RS (or even Turbo S with its AWD) will be able to accelerate harder than it brakes? I think the GT4 and RS (to a lesser degree) just don't have the power necessary to do that.
The other factor is aero. Peak braking can happen at higher speed (where the RS's downforce is high). Peak acceleration has to occur at low speed where there is no traction advantage from downforce.

let me get back to the winter tyre issue with the GT3 RS. here is what i found in a michelin announcement of their tyre support for the 991 GT3 RS:
To ensure the GT3 RS is prepared for difficult winter driving conditions, Michelin is the sole supplier of the Porsche-approved winter tyre fitment for the car:
245/35R20 91V XLTL Pilot Alpin 4 N0
315/35R20 110V XLTL Pilot Alpin 4 N0
so there are winter tires for the GT3 RS...i just wonder on which rims they have to be mounted. whoops, maybe they also fit the 918 spyder?

Right now the 0-60 king is the 918, which can do it in 2.2 seconds and 0-30mph in 1 second. Translated to g-forces, it means it accelerate to 30mph with just under 1.43g, to 60mph at just under 1.3g averaged. That's about the upper limit for acceleration g forces in a street car right now.

Stock wheel size for the standard 265/325 tires are 9.5"/12.5". The 245/315 combo will be at the upper limit for wheel width discounting the 20"/21" wheel size difference. I have to imagine proper wheels for these tires will have to be 8.5x20 and 11.5x20. Will need to be custom made though.
Rolling diameter-wise, which is critical for the traction control system, is a little off for the front. Stock wheel size has diameters of 27.3"/28.7" and these 245/315 pairing are at 26.8"/ 28.7". half an inch smaller for the front.
But the good thing is that there are no mechanical differential linkage between front and rear axle on the 918 to wear out, and same for the RS.

You are not braking hard enough lol.
But gotta love Porche's fool proof launch control system. Step on the brake, step on the gas, release the brake and hang on!

Yep, big power and torque with AWD helping a bunch here too.

hehe.. cool story. Not nowing how fast you've bee, but I'm sure the cars limit is far beyond what we can imagine!

I am at the Ring. I saw a white, a GT silver, a UV and an LO car in normal conditions. Not freshly washed , no artificial lights, shade and sun.
Best, for me is LO, second is GT silver. I was disappointed with UV as I had lots of expectations but latest pics on forums are not reality.

You will definitely be in for a treat driving it. Not specifically trying to break in the car, but everytime my hands gravitate towards the RS's key over the 918's. I really enjoy driving the RS more.
But I am without my car for a week. My wife is away and I took my boys to Whistler for a mini vacation before school. My dealer borrowed my RS to be shown at the Porsche Club event in Whistler. It was kind of weird seeing my car here but I am not the one taking it here.
When we walked by my boys were like looked daddy that looks just like our car. Told them it is my car. They looked at me cross eyed.
But boy do the car looked good even in the rain.
