Back to topic: The GT3 RS was supposed to be demand limited but Porsche never expected that much demand. So they did what they had to do, after they limited the 991 R...they had to give customers a goodie and they did. Dealers demanded the same because they had more orders than cars. So in the end, I think everyone is happy because the GT3 RS is really one of a kind right now. Except that devilish white GT4 of course...and my R8. Smiley Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I have a different opinion: Part of the GT3 RS attractiveness was for me its exclusivity on previous generations with a production lower than 2,000 units (and I am not a speculator, I track my cars with about 10,000 km p.a.). Now with something in the range of 5 to 10,000 units, I am out and Porsche has managed to drive me to Mc Laren with a 675 LT Spider coming soon.

Well, there are no losers between those two cars - congrats Smiley

I'm curious if your decision was based on your forecast for future retained value or just your desire to own an exclusive car?  Because it's possible that the RS could retain more of its value (on a percentage basis) than the 675, despite the far lower production of the 675.

I am pretty sure this is correct...

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Well, not sure at all: Just check prices on mobile.de for instance. 675 LT is 10-20% above list price, 991 GT3 RS just about at list price level (about 200K€) and some even lower since Porsche added units in the production. Before this, GT3 RS prices were at 250-300K€...

Yes, I am looking for exclusivity on top of high performance on track and I feel that Porsche made a mistake by producing something like 3 times more GT3 RS than on previous generations.

There are things you should not touch in terms of business strategy and I believe that the limited numbers in production was one of them on the iconic GT3 RS. I can halfway understand the additional numbers on the GT4, but not on the top-end model GT3 RS!

By buying the 675, you bought the best from McLaren, period. It is a far better car than the P1. 675 was supposed to be their range topper, their very best. Until McLaren found out Porsche is doing the hybrid and they hacked job a hybrid system into the 12C platform to get to the P1. If they didn't know what Porsche was doing, the 675 would have been the million dollar hypercar car from McLaren. So considering the pricing, the 675 is the absolute bargain of the century.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

there are many reasons of why the RS was build more and all have been discussed - PDK vs Manual - speculators - the GT-brand-attractiveness - resale value - production numbers etc - to have a car that is produced around 5k times with a RS badge is still more desirable than any other car in it's pricebracket - I don't get it that People are unhappy - if you don't like it buy something else - that simple....- btw : there was never a strategy to Limit the numbers.....GT build line has limited capacities and timelines...- that was also explained many times by preuninger....

Well, I suppose you never cared about the product but exclusivity? Smiley

The 675LT Spider is in a different performance league anyway, I rather think that you suffered from my particular "problem" with Porsche: The GT3 RS is amazing but not powerful enough. The 991.2 Turbo S is amazing as well and powerful but not emotional enough. That said, Porsche clearly lacks a product we both would have wanted to see from Porsche...the "960". I get that but don't blame the GT3 RS and it's higher production numbers for it. I doubt this is the real reason you went for a 675LT Spider instead. Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

No fully wrong your analysis, RC 😉: Since a 675 LT literally left me behind with an incredible speed during a trackday some months ago, I said to myself 'I need this car!'. It is incredibly fast and probably the best performance you can get at the moment for a price under 500K€.

Therefore, I am with you that the GT3 RS is lacking power. 0 to 200 kmh in 11 seconds is not competitive anymore in the league 200K€+. The upcoming GT2 RS will certainly fix this issue.

At the same time, I also bought the GT3 RS because of the limited number in production from the past generations. For me, it was part of the GT3 RS USPs and value proposition. Now that they have taken this away, I move on to a brand and model offering me both the top performance on track AND the exclusivity. Also I find the Mc Laren reallly appealing and their technology is great - see the weight of their cars.

Just my personal opinion/view, I am not saying that everybody should think like me!

Generally, people like exclusivity in cars because they retain their value on resale. Do you flip your cars?

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I think that it is obvious that there won't be a .2 GT3 RS. With .2 GT3 coming and then the GT2 RS there's simply no time for it. So in the next 4-5 years there won't be a true replacement for the GT3 RS.

It's a good moment to buy one just slightly above price list. I think that it is a safe buy. No one has ever lost much money on an RS car bought around price list. There's not really an alternative for a hard core street / track car combination in any price range.

I though that it is underpowered and objectively it is but the thing is it doesn't matter. The RS is no fun for straight line driving. It's super stable at high speeds, only big wing 911 RS'es give you that but with the noise and the sensitivity of the steering you feel like it doesn't belong there and you are wasting engine time.

Then you go on a road like the SR222 and the RS turns into a dream. It's also the only 911 that makes you feel special. It's a car for very special roads and tracks and a must for multi-supercar owners. But the lost versatility can be frustrating for those who have one sports car. And it made me appreciate the Turbo S even more :)

Spyder brakes (and chassis) are not from the GT4. Brakes are 991.1 S brakes (340/330). GT4 has GT3 brakes (380/380).

Nevertheless great fun car for the price.
I still hope they build something like that again.

I agree. It's narrow in some sections and it seems to have poor quality asphalt in some zones.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

The M4 is just a glorified 3 series tuned by M GmbH. I am actually surprised it is as fast as the GTS is. angry

BMW M GmbH really needs to up their gameplay, especially when I take a look at the new AMG GT R (if it really performs that well).

Lost my interest in BMW a long time ago. Only BMW I would consider right now would be the X5 M. 😜
