    Re: 1.6l 4 cilinder Boxster

I always missed having the tach in the center of the gauge cluster, floor hinged pedals etc.. and didn't like the front engine feel compared to the 911s, but a chipped and tuned 944 Turbo or Turbo S was really quick then. My 968 Cab was the only Porsche I ever owned that could not reach claimed V max, but it was a lot of fun anyway.

speed is the first thing I get bored with on any car purely driven on the street , as mine were and have always been

look at the guys who mod their American muscle cars ...600...700... eventually 1200+ hp for some Vipers, Vettes, Camaros, Mustangs  and even then , they want more, as they get velocitized  to each power level ..many never even take them to a drag strip  , ever

    YMMV

    Re: 1.6l 4 cilinder Boxster

    JimFlat6:

If it is quicker and faster than the 6 cyl ones, thats fine with me. They don't sound too bad at all. Back in its day, no one complained about the performance of  the 944 Turbo S or even the 968. or even about 2 liter 914s.  Its easy to get 400hp from a turbo 4cyl engine these days, so if the new Boxsters come with a fat power upgrade and weigh less, thats great.

That's where we must agree to disagree I'm afraid. I would rather have a 330bhp  Boxster that sounds like the latest GTS than a 350 or even 400 bhp car that sounded like that Cayman. Half the pleasure for me is a sports car that sounds great, the sound you can appreciate virtually all the time, especially in an open top car, here in the UK you simply can't use a 400 bhp sports car, I found that with the 997 C2S, great car that it was but could only scratch the surface of its performance and hope to keep my driving licence. I'm amazed after two years of ownership my licence is still clean! But at least it sounded like a sports car should.

Haha, real guerrilla marketing. Special cars that will never make to the production line, just to scare people about a possible dystopian future with GPS-tracked 3-cylinder turbo Caymans with a max speed of 60km/h Smiley

It sounds to me like they have fitted a 360 degree dual exhaust (as opposed to the usual 180-540 for a flat four). It can always be done if you are willing to try hard enough!

    It's not that bad...Smiley

Yesterday at Zuffenhausen one of the new-Engine Boxsters was coming out of the factory and was driving to the Autobahn,

The sound is quieter, different, but not bad at all.

I prefere a 981 with PSE, but the future is coming.

You will be disappointed, same goes to the 991.2 facelift.

It sounds loud in the video and the car is revving very high, something you usually don't do on normal roads.

So the normal rev range on the street is around 2000-5000 rpm and in this range, you barely hear anything from these engines, just wait and see. Highly disappointing but as someone said...it is the future. Smiley

I was really worried when I ordered a GTS (after the Turbo S) but I couldn't be happier. For my purpose (daily driver, sunshine fun car cabriolet), this car is perfect. For the Autobahn, I wish the car had more power but I have the Shelby for that.  Overall, this car is a keeper, I have no doubts about it but I wish I would have learned this lesson a little bit earlier. Also, I wish Porsche would offer the Turbo S with a better exhaust sound.
