2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

After Sunday's race at Spa-Francorchamps, we have yet to see what the consequences will be at Mercedes ... will there be an internal punishment for Rosberg and will the FIA intervene to punish a driver who deliberately did not avoid a collision to prove a point that he would not back down?

This race could get very ugly .... and Ricciardo will be hoping to pick up the pieces if the Mercedes drivers press the self-destruct button ...

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

What punishment could Mercedes impose?  This is not a football team that someone could be left out of the squad or be fined with a salary deduction, because there are 20-25 others to choose from. Make Rosberg sit a few races and use the third driver and risk losing Constructors' points? I wonder.

I'll be very disappointed if Mercedes lose and the brilliant work of the engineers to make this super-Mercedes comes to nothing, because of two immature "children" fighting each other.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

If I read and follow Hamiltons statement I really question if he is strong enough to race at F1 in Monza. He is a little kitten complaining that the puppy was biting his as. But sure enough, if the Kitten could have scratched the puppy it would have done!

If Mercedes is smart they dont offer Hamilton a contract for next year. There are plenty of young talents out there - grow another strong one next to NR, kick that old Austrian guy out of the management team and get some talented, young managers which understand that life is short and needs to be celebrated! Yes - its a serious business but as we see on the newer 1Billion+ companies - they only could grow that fast because of free spirit and colorful minds!

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Agree with Lars. Hamilton is such a cry-baby. "He hit me! He hit me!" Seriously? This is embarrassing for someone competing at this level. I say, Grow a pair, and lose the moronic earrings while you're at it.

.... why that! Didnt want to offense you! Just think that Mr. Lauda is a bit to harsh right now and his style is very direct and not very political. Certainly he has experience and achievements but the style good leadership nowadays requires has changed!

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

I say kick both out of Mercedes. Hamilton for  being a cry baby and Rosberg for being a dirty cheat who is not giving Mercedes a nice image.

Bottom line is that Roosberg is winning because the Mercedes is so  much faster than the rest not because he is a extra talented driver, they can kick him out and any of the top 10 drivers of the grid will still win the championship with the Mercedes, and if the Mercedes looses its advantage next year, Rosberg is not going to be the driver to drive the car 110% for the win, they will need a better driver anyway.

So if you kick Hamilton, Rosberg should get the boot as well.

I say kick both out of a Mercedes and get Alonso. It's about time Fernando drove for a decent team.

x1000, along with RIC for example but with Alonso's luck, as soon as Alonso signs the dotted line, something would happen and Mercedes will not be competitive anymore and struggling aggainst the Force India, Williams, etc Smiley

Its a pity because I don't know how many years Alonso has left in F1, but would be nice to see what he can do on Sundays with a good car for a season before he retiires.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Hamilton is liked by the younger crowed . My sons and their friends ( between 10 et 12 years old ) all like Hamilton the best . My older  son started to watch F1 at 4 years old , in 2006. I never pushed , he just liked it , and immediately was fan of Hamilton in 2007 when he started to be on the grid.

I don't know about kids in other places, but last sunday , there were 5 kids at my place watching the GP and all cheered for Hamilton .

For that reason, I want him to win too smiley

As for the incident, I think also NR just ''stayed '' there and though '' let's see what will happen , I am not baking off '' . I like NR less and less as I also think he is a spoiled kid and playing dirty tricks.

Two weeks ago I went go karting . I had a '' fight'' with a guy that I was wanting to take over as I was just slightly faster then him, but  when I was next to him to pass, just would not move an inch, menacing us to crash both . I had to back off, as I did not want to take unessery risk in an amateur go-kart race .  I got stuck behind him , then again when I tried to pass, he slowly pushed me to the side ...... At the end he said : This is racing . I was so mad at him for this attitude .

Hey, don't knock Niki Lauda  I like the old man kiss

He's old school, a proper racer. None of this PR nonsense from him. He tells it as he sees it.

Sky F1 weighs up some of the options at Mercedes. The more likely ones are less useful at actually dealing with the problem.

The mainstream UK press are obviously having a field day with this rivalry ...

IMO what Mercedes is going to do behind closed doors is to impose a non overtaking rule for both drivers unless approved by the pitbox via radio, and the team manager well decide who passes who and who allows who to pass cleanly according to who is going faster, tires strategies, put stops, etc.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

This is what existed when Ross Brawn was there in 2013. Neither driver ever questioned Brawn's authority.

Same here - I'm probably the biggest fan in my town. Anyway - or exactly why - I dont understand that he is having this Mercedes role?

+1.... both are winning because of the insane power of this years car! And that's exactly why I say get space for young drivers which would probably doing great from the first day on with such a car.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Yes, there's very little that's interesting going on with Mercedes besides the internal feud and Hamilton's run of "bad luck", some of which he caused himself and some that is beyond his control.

The really interesting story this year is at RBR with Ricciardo consistently beating Vettel.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Ignoring Mercedes out front, I think the racing down the field has been really good this year

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Yes, it certainly has. The best racing that's been seen in F1 over a decade, maybe longer. Getting the downforce, and particularly the aero required to generate it, off the cars has really done wonders for the sport. And I don't think the power units using 4-cylinders takes anything important away from it at all. So, two interesting stories, besides the interpersonal melodrama at Mercedes.

Hamilton will delay contract renewal talks till after the season is over. Rosberg renewed already for another 3 years. I don't think Hamilton fancies remaining Rosberg's teammate.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

I don't think Hamilton has a choice, outside Mercedes he has no chance at winning anything. He needs Mercedes more than Mercedes needs him, unless the Mercedes unexpectedly drops in performance next season,  they can easily get a new driver and still have a 1-2.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Shhhhh. Let him go. Then Alonso may have a chance to go to Mercedes.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Or maybe let Rosberg go and put Alonso with Hamilton in Mercedes next season. .. then we will see some real fireworks!

    --

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

I don't know if F1 could survive that. It would be like an open flame in a powder magazine.

Re: 2014 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Hamilton's contract lasts till the end of 2015. He's not going anywhere ;)
