Sounds disappointing, but if true, I don't see any reason not to offer Manual gearbox. Hope the price reflects the mild upgrade in power.

Also, I thought it was already decided that 991.2 gets turbo motor?

I spoke with Schultzhund on the weekend by PM on this subject. The post above is consistent with what I had learned from a contact doing tyre testing a few months back. He was firm it was under 400bhp as he had access to some of the metrics for his work on tyres. I am trying to find out more but at this stage getting no where. The impression I got form my earlier conversation was atmo engine, under 4000 bhp, PDK in test car, 5 lug wheels 20". It would make sense to me that this will be the "R" model and the GT4 moniker may be reserved for future cayman/boxster iterations using blown 4 pot engine...just my 2c worth :-)

Sad news and good news. Sad news for all track enthusiasts, good news, I would say for those who are contemplating a GTS currently...

I now have the feeling that a lot of the goodies (like LCAs as OEM std, etc) will be left off the car.

If I remember a post from RC earlier he hinted that it would be a NA 6 with ~360hp min.  Looks like the 911 protection is still in force so to speak.

If this holds true (3.6, PDK and NOT PDK-S, aero kit) I can easily see a 10k€ premium over the GTS.  Instead of a new engine I think it would be easier and cheaper to just ECU detune the 3.8; software being cheaper than different internals.  But what do I know.  Thats why I'm reaching out and am asking.

Lets hope it won't be a repeat of the R which never lived up to the hype and exposed issues - like overheating on track, etc.  Other than free buckets of course.

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

Again, sad news for the track enthusiasts hoping for the super Cayman - on the other hand, c'mon, a Cayman with 360 hp, an aerokit which looks like one, a further improved chassis set-up, bucket seats  - I could live with that ! Porsche needs to do the package right though - instead of selling it with the general baseline such as "a model boasting impressive performance and dynamic looks, exuding unadulterated driving pleasure, bla, bla, bla (previous Cayman R ...)", which I do like to quote for each and every vehicle Porsche releases, they should put some effort into the sporty character of this very modell. On the track or courses I do, I wear jeans and T-shirt and I have fun - and this is, what should be transported as a message - at least IMO. If the new "R" or GT4 has this flat-6, 360 hp and all that jazz - so be it. I will still have pleasure reading all the reviews following the release. my2 cts. (oops, Schutzhund, this is just a general remark and not a remark directed to what you have saidSmiley)

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

Porsche should just abandon these artificial horsepower limits. There's no reason that a "super Cayman" designed for the track can't have more horsepower than a base 911. If the "super Cayman" outperforms a GT3, well, then they might have a problem, but a track focused Cayman is not going to cannibalize base 911 sales, it's a completely different market. If that's really a problem for them, then they have more serious issues to address.

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

If its 385 bhp atmo with 6 speed, lighter weight with some aero, brake and suspension improvements for similar price to GTS it will be enough for most (including me to keep the 991 GT3 company)....the limited information I have been given suggests all that is very possible (Cayman R designation again?).

I think we all are hoping for at least bigger, 991S style or better, brakes with the power increase (the older calipers due to ease of pad replacements).  I would like to see a more factory included adjustable suspension - adjustable LCAs at a minimum, but make the X73 std instead of a PASM version.

I can't believe that pricing will be similar to the GTS.  Porsche power increases have always included a price increase, especially since most of the items added to the GTS will most likely be included for this version; PSE, Alcantara/leather, etc, etc, etc

But what a dream it would be if they were that close.

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

OK. Small update. GM of Porsche in my country confirmed in verbal conversation this week that the "GT4" would have 991S engine approx 400 bhp and be manual. Im not sure if that can be considered as fact but it was a specific response to a question on the cars configuration...

Any word about when it would be introduced?
