SuzyF:
When I was looking for a C4S, mine came also up to about CHF 230k, but that was with all the options I wanted, including for example, leather to sample and paint to sample. Still a rediculous price though...
That suggests to me that there are already lots of 991s running around that cost about this amount; just that the owners will never admit what their options added up to. (or what hit they will take upon resale)
But seriously, I believe that one of the appealing aspects of the factory "parts specials" is simply that most people (RT members excluded, mostly ) have serious difficulty in choosing tastefully coordinated, and sensibly matched, options among a huge and confusing option list such as Porsche offer. It is simply overwhelming to this mostly male purchasing group, who struggle to get dressed each morning without committing serious fashion faux pas. The factory specials are "pre-approved" by people who know the PAG option list and who presumably have chosen well and tastefully - yes they are expensive, but less so than a new Porsche that I have screwed up the options on.
In fact, there might be a market for a "taste consultant" who could, for a small fee (first 4000 km driving??) assemble unique but tasteful option packages for would-be Porsche buyers, who are among the overwhelmed (males) who could commit serious errors. Golly, we don't know of anyone on RT who is known to be skilled at options and selection in PAG products, do we?? (moi? she says.... )
