Apparently not if we can trust Wikipedia at all:
Top fuel dragsters are the fastest sanctioned category of drag racers, with the fastest competitors reaching speeds of 330 miles per hour (530 km/h) and finishing the 1,000 foot (300 m) runs in 3.7 seconds, or the full quarter mile (402 m) in 4.4 seconds.
...
A top fuel dragster accelerates from a standstill to 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) in as little as 0.8 seconds (less than one fifth the time required by a productionPorsche 911 Turbo to reach 60 miles per hour (97 km/h)) and can exceed 280 miles per hour (450 km/h) in just 660 feet (200 m). This acceleration subjects the driver to an average force of about 4.0 G over the duration of the race.

Zero to 500 km/h in 4.5 sec?!? That's a typo, right?
Not a typo, your read it right seeing this life must be quite something!
Fuelies are amazing to watch and to hear. The engines generate a tremendous amount of power for a very brief period of time and it is not unheard of an engine being partially rebuilt between heats. One of the more amazing statistics is that most engines turn about 500 revolutions for the entire run!

*WARNING* This emoticon does not fully cover my facial expression at the moment:
Holy holy crap, that is absolutely stunning. I'm surprised it's only 4g.
Doing full acceleration in a 911 turbo from standstill is already very impressive... can you imagine something like this...

Hello boys! That is what we do in America. I have seen top Fuel dragsters run many times in Heatland Park, Topeka Kansas. Always makes street cars like the 911 Turbo S seem like a VW bug. I would jump at a chance to drive an F1 car at the limit but having seen Top Fuel dragsters in action there is NO WAY ON EARTH I would get into a car like that. You would think 1/4 mile - streight line, what could go wrong? No way, those guys are insane in the brain! Fun to watch except it makes everything else seem so slow. Like going to see the F-22 at an Air-show and then driving home.
Enjoy

Drivers do suffer from detached retinas. 8-9,000 horsepower V-8 supercharged engines running Nitro-methane. The engines are rebuilt after each run.

I cannot imagine the noise of those trucks. I saw top fuel races in the USA when i visited as a teenager. I was shocked. F1 noise (real F1, not 2014) is NOTHING in comparison. Those things OWN all sound waves around you for miles. Unbelievable! And yes, was early life experience of american entertainment

"Those things OWN all sound waves around you for miles." - that is the best way to describe it. It can take your breath away - as in make oxygen unavailable. I have also seen pre 2014 F1 many times, the sound is no comparison. They sound like electric cars by comparison now. I highly recommend anyone coming to the US to watch this type of racing - even stock cars can be fun actually.
If you stand downwind from the burnout in a white t-shirt ut will be black in an hour from the bits of melted rubber suspended in the white tire smoke and fused to your shirt.

When I was a kid we used to live, literally ,across the street from the drag racing strip at Mantorp Park. I got blurry childhood memories from walking around the cars in the depot.

If you decide to try this, I suggest wearing a respirator since, without one, that same melted rubber will be fused to your airways and lungs.

I still remember a cloud of nitro-methane vapor hitting my face when I was standing too close to a funny car that they were trying to start - eyes started watering and couldn't breath. Ahhhh, those were the days.

Well, there are several Drag Racing Schools that allow anyone to experience one of these machines. Just did a quick search and found this one which travels around the US, http://frankhawley.com/ and has a full day class at $599. Looks like they run at FL, PA, and CA. Should be a blast!
Might be an interesting day for someone coming to the US on Holiday...

Two years ago I went to Ferrari World and could experience the faster F1 roller coaster in the world, it makes 4,6sec from 0-240Kph, you only have a tiny sunglasse in your face and no helmet, great g force experience

This is a very recent post on an American automotive website.
The statistics provided are amazing.

I think you are right
I have some cool souvenirs and memorabilia from Mantorp Park as well which my parents collected. How about a 1969 grand opening brochure signed by the great Fangio, David Piper, etc.
