    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    Onur,

I emailed my P source and you are partially right.

Yes, ceramic rotors from SGL use harder surface component but, this is very thin layer and as a consequence Porsche officially do not recommend PCCBs for track use apart from occasional track drive (few laps every few months).

Reason is that during heavy track driving PCCBs experince extremly high temperature amd since hard layer is very thin brakes are prone to extensive wear. Ask any GT3 owner why most (95%) of them use only steel brakes for track driving.

Even better ask directly Porsche what are they reccomending for GT3 if you plan to drive extensivly on the track. PCCBs wont be their answer...

    Really?
I mean, I have a 991 GT3 and a 458 Speciale. Because I do lots of track days, I have steel brakes on the GT3. But I have never read that Porsche "officially" do not recommend PCCBs for track use...?
And I am afraid that Porsche will only offer PCCBs on the next 991 GT3RS like they always did in the past...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Interesting info on the carbon brakes on Ferrari. I was just looking at a Scuderia yesterday and wondering why it's rotors are so much more raw looking than my PCCBs. And I agree with Leawood about PCCB. They are fantastic. I've had them on 5 Porsches including two GT3s and would not hesitate to spec it again if it's within budget. I don't know why people say it's grabby. It's not. The best thing about PCCB is how much less unsprung weight you have on the front wheels, which gives you a better steering feel (yes even on the electric steering cars).

    Kreso,

Porsche, as always, is very cautios on official statements. I regularly track my 458 in 2 circuits; one is Körfez which is a very short and midium speed circuit where you hit 200 km/h at most and only had to slow down to 120 km/h; but the other track, Istanbul Park, has a very long back straight where I hit 258 km/h and have to slow down to 90 km/h; that where I kill the brakes mainly.

It takes about 90 laps (approx. 480 km) to finish my front pads @Istanbul Park. On the other hand, Lambo 570 SL's ceramic brakes last 5 times longer than mine. So evenif Porsche doesn't recommend to use PCCB's on the track, they last much longer than Ferrari's CCMs.

On the other hand, steel brakes are also not longlasting @Istanbul Park. My friend put Stoptech big brake kit on his CSL and his pads last only for 25 laps; and he is lapping approx. 8 seconds slower than me per lap. (He has coilover kit, stoptech brakes, sway bars, cup tires)

My other friend has a modified E92 M3 on which he has stoptech big brake kit and his pads which come with the kit only last 20 laps so he switched to harder compound pads. He laps approx. 4-5 sec slower than me. (Stripped down car with egzost, intake kit, trofeo R tires, suspension kit etc)

As a result I'm very curious on testing my new refirbushed rotors and new pagid pads on the track. I'll see how they will hold on. In the mean while, I don't need to ask Porsche to learn what they recommend for the GT3 for track use because, 1) Porsche Turkey doesn't know these kind of knowladge 2) I don't have a GT3 to start with Smiley

What I have written about the seramic brakes here may sound ackward to some but as I told you before to trust me on this because I have spent money and time on this in the past 10 months. There is also a new guy with sufficient money to support his hobby and he started to track his Speciale @Istanbul Park. I'm curious about how long his pads will last but currently he is approx. 17-18 seconds slower than me per lap so his brakes are not used on the limit, yet.

Here you have your answer; the reason of this is what I have explained. By the way, front rotors and pads of the Scuderia and 458 are exactly the same and the rears are only 10mm smaller than 458 (350mm vs 360mm)

So basically, Scuderia and 458 have almost the same brake force but 458 carries 100 kg, at least in my case, more than Scuderia.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Well, Porsche does not say "Don't use them", but something like PCCBs are prone to more wear and tear when driving on a track and should therefore be looked at after each track day...(though I do not recall the exact wording)...

I was in Hockenheim on Sunday and tarmac tempartures were very high - the mechanics had quite a busy time changing brake pads ( I guess roughly 90+ % had steel rotors).

    +1

People are getting a bit carried away on this topic. The carbon ceramic brakes are not indestructible although this seem to be a too common misconception. It is question of economics: higher performance for higher maintenance and replacement costs. For almost all drivers these costs far outweigh the performance improvement.

Grant, sorry for late reply, I use the AIM Solo DL with ODB II and AIM SmartyCam HD, this is just perfect and so easy. I had enough of GoPro for the track.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I am on the same page as you Igirl. For the GT3, I would never put PCCB for track. If the RS comes with it, then one can always build special rotors from

    1. Rechsteiner racing SA

in Switzerland. They do full braking development. They have done special iron rotors for 458 and Superleggera just for track purposes.

I don't think that's the RS wing - it is likely a Cup or similar wing used for testing...

    Hello,

i did about 1300km until now. Great car. But I have one problem. I am not able to get any information regarding the oil level.

The car says: temporary no information about the oil level available

(Zur Zeit keine Informationen über Ölstand verfügbar)

    Anyone has the same prob?

    Hello.
I often have that "problem". I do essentially track days with my 991 GT3 and, each time, I have to make an oil refill. Then, the system takes a long long time to be available again... No real solution, you have to drive drive drive... until it comes back.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Sometimes it takes 30km drive to get the oel level. But not always.

Ah yes. You are not alone. Almost everyone with new engine/software has this issue. It was not like this before with old software. Also they put sticker on the engine saying 0.5L to fill from bottom to top then icon saying see manual. manual as always states 0.8L from bottom to top so go figure!

I wrote already to Porsche about the issue. Their techs agree it is not working as well as could be. they also admit that with 991 generation oil measurement is not so accurate unless you use PST2 tester PWSIS etc. I just told them they should keep the "dip stick" like other cars ha ha!

The trick I have learned is to bring the car to temperature then let it sit on a level surface for 3 minutes at idle. The oil measurement level will return and it will for some weird reason be much easier to recall for the rest of your drive.

After taking my GT3 to the track it showed I had used 2 bar of oil (approx 250-300ml). This is in 1000km on new engine including 10 laps of circuit and 320km fast road drive.

My friend used his all day at circuit 150-200Km circuit plus 320 fast road and 400 street Kms (almost 1000km) and he used 500ml oil. After circuit he drove home with 1 bar hot and next morning it told him when starting up and cold oil that the car was low on oil and he needed to bring it up before he drives. Then he put 500ml in.

My first engine used 400ml oil in 3500km but did not do to the track or driven as hard on the road as it is on the second engine (car is now in NZ was before in Switzerland/Europe).

I think when run hard the engine likes a bit of oil. Im sure it will reduce after run in. The car is awesome at the track and fast road by the way. I love it!
