KresoF1:
Onur,
I emailed my P source and you are partially right.
Yes, ceramic rotors from SGL use harder surface component but, this is very thin layer and as a consequence Porsche officially do not recommend PCCBs for track use apart from occasional track drive (few laps every few months).
Reason is that during heavy track driving PCCBs experince extremly high temperature amd since hard layer is very thin brakes are prone to extensive wear. Ask any GT3 owner why most (95%) of them use only steel brakes for track driving.
Even better ask directly Porsche what are they reccomending for GT3 if you plan to drive extensivly on the track. PCCBs wont be their answer...
Kreso,
Porsche, as always, is very cautios on official statements. I regularly track my 458 in 2 circuits; one is Körfez which is a very short and midium speed circuit where you hit 200 km/h at most and only had to slow down to 120 km/h; but the other track, Istanbul Park, has a very long back straight where I hit 258 km/h and have to slow down to 90 km/h; that where I kill the brakes mainly.
It takes about 90 laps (approx. 480 km) to finish my front pads @Istanbul Park. On the other hand, Lambo 570 SL's ceramic brakes last 5 times longer than mine. So evenif Porsche doesn't recommend to use PCCB's on the track, they last much longer than Ferrari's CCMs.
On the other hand, steel brakes are also not longlasting @Istanbul Park. My friend put Stoptech big brake kit on his CSL and his pads last only for 25 laps; and he is lapping approx. 8 seconds slower than me per lap. (He has coilover kit, stoptech brakes, sway bars, cup tires)
My other friend has a modified E92 M3 on which he has stoptech big brake kit and his pads which come with the kit only last 20 laps so he switched to harder compound pads. He laps approx. 4-5 sec slower than me. (Stripped down car with egzost, intake kit, trofeo R tires, suspension kit etc)
As a result I'm very curious on testing my new refirbushed rotors and new pagid pads on the track. I'll see how they will hold on. In the mean while, I don't need to ask Porsche to learn what they recommend for the GT3 for track use because, 1) Porsche Turkey doesn't know these kind of knowladge 2) I don't have a GT3 to start with
What I have written about the seramic brakes here may sound ackward to some but as I told you before to trust me on this because I have spent money and time on this in the past 10 months. There is also a new guy with sufficient money to support his hobby and he started to track his Speciale @Istanbul Park. I'm curious about how long his pads will last but currently he is approx. 17-18 seconds slower than me per lap so his brakes are not used on the limit, yet.
