Also, Azerbaijan will be the Grand Prix of Europe. Europe? Which part of Azerbaijan is in Europe? It's further east than Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen ...

This year, 18 out of 21 stages of the Tour de France actually happened in France itself so it's still very much the case that the Tour de France is overwhelmingly a tour of France first and foremost with only a small minority of overseas elements.
However, no part of Azerbaijan is really within Europe. One often hears how Istanbul in Turkey is at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. Well, Istanbul is over 2200 km west of Baku :)

The other thing to bear in mind is that institutions of the EU (e.g. the European Court of Justice, the European Commission etc) have all been extending the reach of the EU.
Culturally, countries outside Europe have been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest for years ... so people wrongly assume that Europe has become less and less a geographical entity and more and more a white Caucasian area ...

Up next: Turkey is applying to the Eurozone
Well, we all know that Turkey is in the queue to join the EU and that the talks will take many years ... IMO it is unlikely Turkey will be allowed to join ....
BUT <a lesser known fact> did you know that EVERY country that joins the EU in future MUST join the Euro?
There is no option to join the EU without joining the Euro ... great.
The Euro opt out that the UK, Sweden and Denmark have is not available going forward to new joiners.
Sharing a currency needs, not just economic convergence, but also similarly developed economies in a similar economic cycle ... that's why the Euro works for countries like Germany, Holland, Austria ... but can the same be said for Romania, Bulgaria etc ? ... exactly, I think not.
Spain is rapidly exiting its recession. France is still contracting. Italy is stuck in limbo economically. Sharing a currency across such differing economies slows everyone down to the lowest common economic denominator.
Personally, I'm relieved that the UK kept the Pound Sterling. It's a very strong currency and we can control our own interest rate and monetary policy ourselves.

As the UK Sterling still is strong against the USD or EUR you also need to keep an eye on the UK Industry and Economy which is still very slow. This weak UK Industry is very dangerous as it might flip the Pound within a short time southwards. Actually UK is a bit like the overall European situation - while London is the motor pulling up the other regions and in Europe Germany is the Motor keeping it going for all the others.
I also agree the EUR is weak as of so many countries and unfortunately our good old Germany has to carry the burden of keeping all others up. In the world economy we are the number one among the western countries and only emerging countries are stronger in comparison. So - as much we have advantage of the EUR, I doubt we will have it for the rest of our lives. Since 1924 we already have seen 4 currencies in Germany - so my guess we might see a fifth before closing down the century!

The Euro is actually overvalued right now. Analysts have been saying this for some time now.
Actually, UK manufacturing growth is very strong now. While London is booming right now, the economy of the rest of the country is also growing very fast. You can check the UK purchase manager's index as a good indicator of this. Confidence has not been this high since 2007.
Current UK growth for 2014 is predicted to be 3.4%. That level of growth doesn't happen just because of one city with its financial services sector. It takes much more than that to generate this level of growth.
