RC, you condemn grey wheels as boring on a car you ordered ... in grey?
I didn't order it and I would have never ordered a Boxster S in this combo (agate grey with satin rims and black leather). A Boxster S needs to be colorful, I wouldn't want to start the whole woman's Porsche prejudice again but my wife was the first to complaint about the grey in grey. Why did I take it? Well...I exchanged it with a Cayenne GTS at no extra (lease) cost, so it was kind of a "take it or leave it" deal. Had no choice.
I feel conflicting goals in tension here. You want sporty but at the same time you don't want to look sporty. You need to just order that bright yellow or bright red Porsche that deep down you know you really really want (outraging/offending the neighbors be damned).
Of course I want the car to look sporty but you cannot get a color like yellow or red on a 991 Turbo S over here in Germany, this is a no go. As an example: My neighbor owns a red C63 AMG Black Series and you wouldn't believe the jokes and comments the people make behind his back. This is deep catholic Bavaria, not colorful Miami.
Also, I had no choice in choosing a different rim color since I got the first car and I was happy about that. Many test mules in Weissach have matte black painted rims, this is where I got this idea from because I really like how they look. I could have done some playful foil jobs on my car but this would be too much I'm afraid.
In the end, I would have loved to see a 991 Turbo RS, kind of an AWD GT2 version but Porsche apparently doesn't believe in such a product, at least not for now.
