I know I've seen it, but its well worth hearing that sound again.
Anyone here ever physically operate a car on a dyno? I'm wondering what its like. I'm a little curious about the speeding down portion of the process actually. I'm not sure if this video is real, but I am surprised to see the downshifting happening at the end. I would think you would just coast to a stop rather than apply reverse forces on the system. Of course this video is for dramatic effect and not simple measurement so it's not that surprising.
I'm just wondering about the characteristics of the dyno machine itself, if that makes any sense...
To the car, the dyno feels just like any other road. So during coasting down, especially in Sports mode or something, the ECU automatically downshifts to match road speed with gearing/engine speed. All dual clutch gearboxes do that, in my Turbo S, 12C and the Speciale.
There are a surprisingly high amount of tech involved even in last generation's sports car, almost like current gen. The computer doesn't do what humans do on coasting down, i.e. disengage the clutch and let the car coast/brake down by itself until stop. It keeps the transmission in control in case power is needed all of a sudden.
