    Would make sense...

lets hope so..300-350 pounds is a huge gain no matter the size of a vehicle, but esp so for one that is just 2200-2300 pounds in ROW config

I know the reason for the enormous weight increase of the US-version: smiley

For all my American friends here at rennteam: no offense intended! cool

The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

Smiley  I'm thinking softer springs to tolerate US roads, but much bigger springs for the weight and "heavy" duty shocks or struts.

All kidding aside, I have seen so many different reports of 250 to 300 lbs in increased weight that Grey market cars will be the only way to go in the US.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

A review of the US market 4C. It looks like Alfa have added a full leather dash and door coverings plus the headlights from the spider concept for the US market.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

TFL content is always..."interesting" ...to put it politely.  They claim the US spec model is 300lbs heavier from A/C and the radio? They produce a 11 minute piece and cant even do a 0-60mph test. Marvelous reporting.

But they do have a lot of enthusiasm for the car and its good to see Alfa back in the US at 86 selected Fiat dealerships. http://blog.sfgate.com/topdown/2014/06/11/alfa-romeo-4c-dealers-announced/

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

US version's EPA curb weight (  with all fluids ) is 2450 lbs  per Alfa Romeo  , 100 kg (220 lbs ) more than ROW wet weight :

From Motor Trend :   " according to Fiat's European product development head Mauro Pierallini in an interview with Automotive News Europe.......the U.S.-spec car .....weighing ( 220 lbs ) more than the European ( version) .......According to Pierallini, the weight gain is due to aluminum inserts in the carbon fiber chassis, as well as additional gas tank and fuel line protection, and equipment to meet U.S. emission standards. "

If the weight increase is true, there needs to be a reason for it. I kind of started to be worried about the safety of the European version of the 4C.

Safety and a few options like A/C; however, the greatest extent of the weight gain is additional safety equipment required for sale in the United States.

The European and US safety legislation requirements are not so far apart that a weight difference of 300 pounds between the two versions of the same model for those two markets can be plausibly explained, as witnessed by the fact that you do not get such differences with other vehicles sold in both markets. In the case of most car models the differences are limited to certification stickers and software, neither of which are known to be particularly heavy.

Sounds like the facts or figures have got distorted here somehow.

Here is the source and I doubt that too much of a distortion of fact was made:

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

That's a good review. The sports exhaust does drone a bit around 3,000 RPM which is anywhere between 80 and 90 mph. Go above or below that and it disappears. That's a pretty common issue in my experience of most sport exhaust set ups that don't have a switchable flap to quiet them down when not wanted. The fact the car has a carbon tub merely serves to amplify the sound of the engine and exhaust in the cabin which won't suit everyone but I love it.

Familiarity with the car makes some of the control operations more intuitive. The speed of shifts both up and down the box is good and it is easy to smooth out upshifts by gently lifting the throttle slightly as the gear engages. Keep your foot planted and you get the thump in the back of the Ferrari F1 system and can feel the wheelspin in lower gears as the lightweight of the car lets power momentarily win out over traction. It's a lot of fun smiley The steering is great and really opens your eyes to how much feel has been lost with power assisted sytems. After driving the 4C for a couple of days I got in my Range Rover Sport and it felt like the steering was broken as there was so little feel in comparison indecision Normally I'd think the steering in that was pretty good.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

The USA car weighs 1.050 kg in dry weight  compared to 895 kg for the European version. Huge difference of 155 kg or +17%.

Can someone explain what the reason is? No othet car in history had to differ so much in weight to be sold worldwide!

    Safety? What safety?

Not quite sure what a "new toilet" effect is Smiley Smiley

I can't think of another car that gets anywhere close to offering what the 4C does so don't see myself parting with it unless it is for the spider version. It is the perfect weekend toy with more than enough power for road driving. I accept it won't suit all tastes but that's fine as few cars ever do.

it was a huge bombshell on the Dino restoration thread. We're still waiting on morel ics and info, but delivery hasn't taken place yet.

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

Iain, why on Earth did you need 4, 4 Dinos?

I like the neon green one thought. For sale? :)

    Re: Alfa Romeo 4C

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Dinos were opportunistic purchases. I found great people for restoration work and bought the cars as long term investments. The market on these cars has now risen considerably since I bought them and I doubt it will ever fall back significantly due to the relatively small numbers made.

The F50 has arrived and here are a few pics kiss It was delivered with some US style floor mats which are of dubious taste but will protect the floor in the meantime. I don't know why people have to have huge logos on floor mats to remind them of what car they are sitting in yes Don't they notice what it is when they walk up and open the door? smiley

Will you get a 5th one if given the chances?

The owner must have wanted passing aircraft to be able to identify the car Smiley

I think 4 Dinos is enough so am letting others pick up the restoration gauntlet on that model now. I had considered buying a 308 as those models are starting to rise in value and will continue to do so IMHO after being under valued for too long. After buying the F50 I shelved that idea as I think I have enough cars in my retirement fund now Smiley

THAT F50 IS G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S !!!!!   angel angel angel

Sorry for my excitement, normally I'm a bit more relaxed. smiley

But I always had a soft spot for the F50 and never understood why it is considered as the black sheep of the Ferrari-halo-cars-family. Okay, must be a bit "special" to drive, since the engine is bolted directly to the rear wall if I remember correctly, which should result in some "special" feelings during driving, but it's a V12 and it has a removable top. kiss
