    KresoF1:
There won't be a facelift of AMG GT, car will stay the same in its production life.

that's sort of what happened to the SLS .. but short production span.

How long will GT be in production for?

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

From December 2014 till end of 2018.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Better power to weight ratio then on your 991TS. Not good enough?

AWD? Rear passenger seats? No, not good enough.

Also, I don't really care about AMG weight to power ratio claims. Remember the SLS Black Series? 631 hp...2.6 kg/hp and still slower than the Turbo S. No worries here. Smiley

Btw: Didn't you order a Turbo S? Have you changed your mind, going for the GT instead?

Not Turbo S, normal Turbo. But, I will get AMG GT as well.

    Hi Kreso,

How do you intend to differentiate between these two cars in terms of usage? Summer-winter, travel-track etc.

It will be interesting to know as you must have studied the matter a lot.

Intend to sell 991 Turbo to my brother in summer 2015.  I will have enough time to compare both of them in late spring 2015. AMG GT will be a keeper. For a very good reason...

Cool.... really like it! That might be indeed a good successor for my 911 :)

Not if it costs the same. Smiley Keep in mind that it has two seats only.

Yep - forgot about those two seats - might be a show-stopper!

Same price I wouldnt mind as I think the car has the same quality. BUT - the depreciation on a Porsche might be lower than on that Mercedes!

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

It's interesting that this motor seems to be quite similar to taking two of the 2.0 4-cyl motors from the CLA45 on a common crankshaft (like the 944 and 928 of decades ago), but the 4-cyl makes 360hp and the V8 of double the displacement makes only 510hp.  Seems like the 4-cyl had the far more aggressive spec - or maybe there is just much more headroom in the V8 for future tuning?

R4 is using way more boost then V8.This is entery level version. More powerfull versions will follow.

This new V8 4.0l is also unique in been only true dry sump engine. New Ferrari V8 biturbo, BMW M5/M6 and Audi RS6 all use wet sump engines(same story with 991 TS).

Double the cylinder count and displacement increases the engine's friction too.

No reason it would make more than double the friction (probably less that double, given only one crankshaft) - no reason it couldn't make twice the power in the same state of tune, unless there is insufficient strength in the crankcase or other component.

Simply due to the lower turbo boost.  You are correct that with one crankshaft and equal boost the 8 will be more than double the 4.  AND YES - DRY SUMP is a BIG DEAL!  Great observation!  This is why we do not see 991 GT3 engine in the CUP cars.

True it is only one crankshaft, but there will be doubled the piston rings scratching the cylinders plus almost doubled the moving mass with the extra 4 pistons, rods and stuff.

I think even in a ideal scenario with same boost pressure and intake profile and everything else equal the output would be slightly less than double output.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I wouldn't worry about it. Mercedes AMG have a excellent track record at building performance V8s. Porsche could take lessons from them. Just look at the wheezing V8s in the Cayenne GTS, for the money those are almost disgraceful.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Engine looks pretty cool. Still though, that shape is just meh. I could see this priced at $130K. Can't imagine paying anywhere near SLS prices for this though. Just too regular looking.

Look at it like this, maybe its a lower priced, smaller SLS with friendlier doors.  I hope its as good as they say it is, but the shape does looks pretty tepid.

I agree, but the 991 GT3 does have a real dry sump (only current Porsche besides 918 with one).

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Interesting to see this car also using the 'hot V' reverse flow engine configuration.

I think BMW was the first one to do it in their twin turbo V8s, then Porsche used it for the 918 and now AMG for the AMG GT.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Actually, Audi use it as well for S6/S7/RS6/RS7 family.

    918 using biturbo V8? No.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

A45's heat treatment is half of the V8's...  Sure it could produce the same rate figure, but how to treat those excess heat is the real problem....  true dry sump sounds interesting...

Forgot about Audi, Smiley and I have a S8 sitting in the garage too.

Didn't mean to say the 918 has turbo, but it still uses the hot V configuration with the exhaust ports inside the V.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I am personally little bit sick and tired of complains that Porschein addicts have on all other sportscars.
    Only two seats?
What other true sportscar beside 991 offers 2+2 configuration. And rear seats on 991 are really spacious...

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

99% of Porsches I see have 2 or less people in them. I agree with Kreso, it's a pretty dumb argument or complaint. If you need space, the GT probably has plenty of trunk space.

If you have a 911 and you use the back seats a lot, you bought the wrong car IMO. Plenty of cars with tons of performance and much more useful back seats.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I bought 911 because it has 2+2 seats for occasional use. This is part of my criteria for this car. I don't see the 911 as a GT car - it's a sports car which is more practical than most of it's competition. Bentley make a GT car, as to BMW, Maserati, Ferrari and Aston. All of which have 2+2 seats. This does not. It is not comparable IMO.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I bought a lot of 911 because they had the back seats. At that time I had two small children. But if your children get older and taller - they don´t want to sit their. I doubt that for an occasional use adults could or would like to sit their.

I never used it for luggage.

One argument for the 2+2 seats sports car is for me the sense of space. I am not claustrophobic but I don´t like the space feeling in a Boxster or SLK. Ferrari solved it very good in the 599.

Like Kreso said, it is not a real argument against the AMG GT compared to a 911 that the GT lacks the two rear seats.
