Whoopsy:
As long as McLaren can keep the general public from knowing that every model they have released are basically a 12C with a different tuning level, and not a 'different model', they can sell quite a number of cars.
For the time being, their financial is in good shape as the P1 is bringing major infusion of money. And economies of scale have helped them bringing down the cost of future variants of the 12C down to a very manageable level.
As long as the world doesn't suffer another world wide financial meltdown, they should be ok.
Too early to draw conclusions. And there is an initial excitement for a novelty brand (only 3 years since the first model) that needs to be sustained year after year for long term viability. Moreover, established rival brands will not stand still.
We are not privy to their deeper financials. Published results don't always tell the full story.

Exactly what AM is doing with the VH platform, I have no problem with that...
Except Aston is proud of their VH platform and advertise he fact that all their cars are based on it.
McLaren on the other hand pretty much goes out of their way to hide the fact all their cars are based on the same platform, especially the P1, as if they didn't want the buyers to know their wallet has been robbed blind. This is what I don't get. The 12C platform is a wonderful platform, one of the best in the industry, why not use that as the main selling point?
Its a really well built and well finished car. McLaren probably has the highest quality standards of any car in its segment. Good luck finding a better built sports car, or a quicker one.
Performance at price? Porsche's 900K 918 0 to 100 mph is 7.2 seconds, The $285K 650S does it in what? 5.7 sec. Just saying
Aston has to tout their VH platform because they can't tout their cars performance. Aston's are just too slow and dated for the money.

You are mixing up different specs.
918 Spyder does 0-200 km/h in 7,2s according to latest factory specs. 650s does this in 8,4s (claimed).
Speaking of 0-100 mph, 650s does it in 5,7s (claimed).
918 Spyder has been already tested and dit 0-100 mph in 5,1s (similar to Veyron Super Sport).
But still, 650s is a beast.
I would still pick Huracan though.

McLaren 650S: "Brilliant new McLaren 650S tested at the limit on track..."
"The latest addition to McLaren's line-up may be based on the 12C, but it's a whole new ball game. Steve Sutcliffe puts the McLaren 650S coupe to the test on track. The McLaren 650S is almost as fast as a Bugatti Veyron, but costs less than one fifth of the price. After driving the McLaren 650S Spider last week, Steve Sutcliffe takes to the Ascari circuit in southern Spain to discover if the replacement for the McLaren 12C lives up to the promise of being much faster and more exciting to drive..."

Here is a quick shot of a recent arrival (650 S Spider in Tarocco Orange). I will post more once its detailed/ time permits. Initial impressions are - clearly increased torque from the 12C, lovely downshift engine noises, incredibly fast ( and I mean really fast), more precise ceramic brakes, but still not a match for Ferrari's, better suspension dynamics (less "floaty" feel), Iris seems to be working (for now !), and dual clutch software better than my early 12C.

Less of thud when going over potholes in the Normal setting. With the brakes its a question of less precision in application in day to day driving. Nothing initially on a light press and then a lot as you press more.
A Munich dealer has three 650S in stock, all of them at a 3% rebate.
Even found a 12C Spider, brand-new (90 km) at a special price of 199k EUR (incl. VAT) only.
Not sure these cars are really holding their value but the temptation is high.
