C- the cynical option: a ECU remap of the current 3.4L with 360hp released only after the base 991 is refreshed with the requisite "tick-tock" power increase?

    mcdelaug:

I've watched the various you tube videos of this putative GT4 mule but don't get a good sense of what powerplant may be in it:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLIPC9_jW6I

Care to speculate? What about these options...

A- the long rumored flat 4 turbo that's scaleable to 395hp?

B- a "real" GT4 version of the current 3.4L with "Preuninger approved" engine modifications to increase redline, lower valvetrain mass, etc making  375-390hp?

C- the cynical option: a ECU remap of the current 3.4L with 360hp released only after the base 991 is refreshed with the requisite "tick-tock" power increase?

The rumor I've liked most is 3.6L NA motor making 400hp (implies gt3-like revving)

If the 3.8L GT3 makes 475hp, that's a specific output of 125hp/L. So if 400hp is the goal, they could easily get there with 3.4L right (~118hp/L) ? Of course, larger displacement probably reduces engineering costs and may be more marketable...

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

In the end it will all depend on who is developing this car: Is it the GT series team or the Exclusive department? If it is the GT series team then it has every chance to be special and competent. If it is the Exclusive department then it will be a GTS Plus...

    +1

But I seem to recall that Preuninger has made a few comments about a mid engine GT car, right?

The 996.2 GT3 made only 380hp from 3.6, so 400 is a pretty good result (though 425hp would be even nicer).

Good point.  I'd much rather the real thing didn't have centrelocks.

Cayman is a a pretty short car. Add a humungous wing and it looks like something from a high school parking lot.

Cayman is 4.61 inches shorter overall but has a .94 inch longer wheelbase than the 911.

It's a lot longer than the aircooled 911 and they were the originators of the humongous wing.  981 is nearly 4" longer than this bad boy...

comparing the elaborately complex  wing set up of the 997 GT3RS in the same pic above, the one on the GT4 looks like it was made with scrap sheet metal lifted from the back of a  heating / ventilation installer's pick -up truck .

All I can say is that there will be a more powerful Cayman model and no, not just the facelift. angry A Boxster "counterpart" is also very unlikely.

Wonderful ! Smiley ....hmmm, if I think of my previous question before - would you think that this more powerful Cayman model is currently being developed in Weissach or in "exclusives" in Stuttgart ? Smiley

(I saw my first Boxster GTS in rhodium-silver in Northern Italy last week and it looked absolutely stunning !).

With the pics of camouflaged '' more powerful Cayman  model,  and no , not just the facelift  '' all over the net, I must say  RC, that your statement  is not Smiley type of information Smiley

I don't know about that...recent years' Porsche mule big wings have usually been the  production version ..I hope they break the pattern this time

funny you say that ...I have seen several dark colored 991 turbo coupes  approach me at that angle and my first  reaction has been " incoming Cayman " , since their side scoops are so similar now !

The wing will be big, but smaller, specially the side parts, and better looking then this one .

The wing on the GT3 RS mule pics you  see around are also not the final product .
