All because the P1 uses the 12C platform. The space above the gas tank is the only place they can stash the batteries. Also, they put the e-motor where the starter motor is as they didn't have room to extend the 12C chassis in order to fit it inline like the 918 or the LaFerrari. All hard points are confined by the 12C platform.

Despite the compromise, the P1 is still a great performer, but just imagine how much better it can be had McLaren got the money to do a ground up design instead of recycling the 12C platform.

The latest news of hybridization of the McLaren range does suggest that the company has learned a positive lesson.

Wow, at first I thought "why is there a corvette in this thread". Then the 928 window lines jumped out at me. That looks great except for the busy doors in my opinion.

same can be said of coming GT3RS, no ? . and these discussions have occurred here for 996, 997, 991 generations and will continue in the future 992 , 994, 995 , 998, 999 series if the model line is still even alive 40 -44 years from now

Actually I cannot remember that the FL apeared so fast with the 997/2. 991/1 Targa was revealed on 15/01. I don't recall that 4 month after debut of specific Porsche model we were able to see it's FL mules on the street Smiley

Speculation: maybe some car related laws (for example emisson) will be changed in the near future and the facelift has to to presented before this will happen. So better too early than never. Pure speculation

I think it was not viable due to lower production numbers

They didn't change rear lights on the proper M3 (E30)

My point is RS will be special because of what it is mechanically, not because of new lights
