    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

I don't like it... Especially 3/4 from the rear, it looks like a Mustang with a Porsche badge. angry

I definitely vote for Milanno's design!! That was so much better!

All concepts I see just go to show how much great potential there is for such a car.. the above lines are true Porsche!

    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

I think Porsche is really missing the market for large GT cars like the Bentley continental, bmw 6 series but also the aston martin db9, maserati granturismo.

Speaking about a smaller panamera I have been asking myself about positioning such a car in the porsche range as well on the whole market, because it would be a problem if Porsche would keep it below the Panamera, speak: smaller engines, no v8. And the panamera is always compared to m6 gran coupe, audi rs7 and cls 63 which have all the same engines as it brothers like the m5 and so on, and a smaller panamera should be an m5 rival. Well Maserati did the same with the ghibli and the ghibli is not an m5 rival. When it comes to length the panamera is more a 7 series rival. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a smaller panamera but it is not easy to find a clear market place. The macan for example fits in a more relaxed market segment without big competition, so far.

    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

The designer certainly doesn't own a Porsche. Smiley I hate the design sketches, they look more like as if the designer mixed the 991 with a SLS and a Jaguar FX.

I understand the idea behind the sketches but they don't appeal to me at all.

The sedan isn't moving anymore, who'd spend more on probably more pricey shortened 2dr version ?

It's either a 911, Boxster or Cayman.....the rest of the lineup = disaster and overpriced

Porsche should let go of overweight family cars, this is MB / BMW / Audi territory that have a long history with front engined cars (Sedan / SUV / Roadster / Hatchback....)

P-Obituaries....another one will join them very soon angry

    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

Hey, those were very true Porsche cars... perhaps you can knock the 924 as being introduced in collaboration with VW.. but the same pretty much goes for all new models. Do not forget that these above were all great road cars with amazing handling and pretty special engines. The 924 Turbo was faster than the 911 SC at the time!

At the time it wasn't right for Porsche and it was aimed at the wrong thing, but surely a new large coupe with front engined V8 from Porsche will sell even better than the Cayennes and Mayans combined

    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

A 928 successor is necessary and I think Porsche knows this very well. Why let BMW and Mercedes make all the money instead with the 6 series or the CL?

I kind of think that the next gen Bentley Coupe will share a platform with a Porsche Coupe, it would make sense. I can also imagine that a Lamborghini GT Coupe could be in the pipeline too, maybe even a Bugatti GT Coupe. The question is: What kind of car will this Porsche Coupe be? I bet it will be more of a GT than real sportscar. They do not need another 911 or a 911 replacement.

The styling of this car will be very important.

A 2 door Panamera style GT won't be individual enough. It will just be a Porsche version of the 6 series. Porsche needs a unique design like the 928 was in its time. Porsche Styling need to work harder to find inspiration.

True but they cannot make it too stylish or too avant-garde.

Probably the two main reasons (apart from funding I guess) is exactly what's mentioned above:
    1. How is it going to be positioned in the model line-up so as not to interfere too much with the other models
(If it is going to be a very sporty GT for example, what will happen with some of the 911 models?)
    2. Styling: Sporty vs elegant, aggresive vs anonymous... VERY important if you want to aim at the business market, especially in europe.

Joost you are too curious smiley Porsche is full of experienced managers, so solving positioning problem is pretty easy task for them. Hardest job will be on designers. They need to create unique, but in same time model that will contain some historic lines in its shape kiss

Yes, but I wouldn't like to see another 911 clone; raised front wheelarches, sloping rear etc.

I know, this would be a huge mistake. I also hope that they won't do a Panamera Coupe (at least not design-wise). I like the Panamera but a Coupe would look way too bulky in my opinion.

A car in the 6 series, S coupe, Bentley GT type only with sharper handling (below NBR 7:50 for top model) and lighter. Such a car will sell like hot cakes to long time Porsche owners and to new customers.

The problem with the styling is that if it will have to share body parts  with the new Panamera for reasons of economy, it will be a limousine derivative and not so unique.

But the new MB S Class Coupe has also a different rear incl. rear lights, which make it like quite differen from the regular S Class. I wouldn't mind if the Panamera Coupe (929) would have a similar front, because it looks very nice too me and with different front spoilers you can make it look more aggressive.

A 929 should be the sportiest luxury coupe in its class. I don't think it would compete with the 911, because of the difference in weight and length.

    Re: 2015 Porsche Panamera Coupe

The Porsche Coupe would need full sized four seats and some usable luggage room in the rear trunk. I think the size (interior and trunk) of the current 6 series is a good basis to start with. I would however wish for a slightly shorter front and a more unique but not so flashy design.
