i have no issues with BMW build quality, my M5 was an excellent car
5 series build quality is better 3 series .. which is truly appalling
I hadn't realised that the latest 3 series build quality wasn't good - all I've seen is the rave reviews about the car - thought very hard about buying one before I saved £££££ and went for the Octavia

M3 + Touring + AWD would be a perfect car for me now..
M GmbH is missing an opportunity here but I think that AWD will be available at some point and it will probably start with the next gen M5 and M6 (as far as I heard). Finally.

Is it only me but, 19" look little bit too small for M3/M4. 20" on M4 Concept car filled the archers much better...
The standard wheels are only 18". Might not look as good, but will be way cheaper to replace (especially when also buying track tires and snow tires and wheels).

great. the next step is AWD on the GT3 (RS) and finally on F1 cars. the future is dawning on us.

Yep... but its not so much the rim size than the entire wheel which is kind of to small!
The wheels are fine, the rest of the car is too big for them

Quite frankly, I don't have a clue what a BMW M3 or M5 have in common with the GT3(RS) but...
Btw: I'm a huge fan of AWD, since my Lancia days, so although I don't get your point, I understand what you are trying to say. You probably hate tablet computers and smartphones too.

the "standard" 3- series interior really sucks.
but the M models, (at least from the photos), has leather covered dash with contrast stitching makes it tolerable. still heaps better than the E92 dash which was truely horrible.
for me, the 6 series has THE best dash design.

Interesting I never considered an Alpina, but it makes sense, very understudied. Like it!

I like analogue cars and digital phones. At the current rate, we'll soon just type coordinates into the phone and the car will drive itself there...

This is actually something I would not like to do with technology. Driving has always been related to fun in my book, so go figure.

I don't know, RC. You're already a PDK fan; this is simply the next step
Kidding aside, I was driving an A8 a few days ago, and I must confess that I greatly enjoyed the adaptive cruise control with the stop & go feature. I was stuck in stop-and-go traffic during rush hour, and there wasn't much driving fun to be had in there...

According to SA today, 'ring time is 7:50 for both the 3 and 4, which is the same as the e46 CSL with cup tires. For comparison, HvS got an 8:22 out of the e46 M3 in 2000, and he got an 8:05 from the e39 in 2007. It's also 4 seconds faster than he got with the 997 Turbo in 2007.
They were also positive on the exhaust sound. 0-100 is 4.3.

Faster than 996.2 GT3 by 6 sec.
No, 6 seconds faster than the 996.1 GT3, 4 seconds faster then the 996.2 GT3 and 2 seconds faster than a Ford GT
Still, those cars are history and development has moved forward a lot in the last 10 years.
Given the similar weight, slight power advantage and every BMW fanboy's obsession with being faster than a 911, I am comparing it to a 991 Carrera S. In this comparison the BMW is 10 seconds slower and I had expected more from the M Division. The last time they managed to build a proper car was with the CSL.

(...and to be really picky Timo Kluck recorded a 7:37.90 lap which is insanely impressive for a 400hp Carrera S. That tells you a lot about the superior 991 chassis and suspension setup)

When the Competition Package comes out next year (dealer confirmed this), it should shed a couple more seconds with stiffer/lower suspension and a few more hp. If it comes with R-tires, then a few more sec again.

BTW, the C2S with PDK is over 200lbs lighter, and it's a good thing the M3/4 is slower because after the beat down the 911 took against the GT-R, another loss against a cheaper, heavier car would have been catastrophic.
Also, the SA super test results will be released in the next issue.

Mmm, the GT-R anomaly. It has beaten just about everything. Including the laws of physics.
Anyway, I had expected more from the M3/M4 than 7:50.
