Finally RC gets a cool car. Congrats. Are the stripes just wrapped?

Dealer added the stripes for fun because he thought this improves the somewhat boring exterior color. Also, the car has a clear film protection for the front (against stone chips, etc.). This can all be easily removed but I think I will leave it that way for now. If I don't like it, I can easily remove it.

I would keep the stripes (for at least a year) and the clear bra (a must to protect the front). In the future perhaps you want to try green stripes (like on the 911R)...

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Clear bra isn't really needed on this car. The primed color is white/grey anyway, so stone chips wouldn't even be visible.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

No, you will notice them when washing the car.

Well, it is still a stone chip and damage to the car.

Well, the car already has the bra, so it doesn't really matter, but it's almost always cheaper to add touch up paint upon resale than clear bra initially. Audi even sells little touch of markers if I'm not mistaken.

Personally I don't even both. Never seen a use exotic without paint damage and never seen someone walk away from one because of a few little nicks here and there.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Agreed. It's just paint, who cares...

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Congrats RC!  I don't think the R8 is a reserved car at all (particularly with stripes), though perhaps your neighbors will accept it over a Lamborghini.  Perhaps all these posts should be moved to the R8 thread.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Congrats Smiley to this grat car.

You can foil the rear wing in suzuka grey, then it is less visible and remove the stripes. Without the car lucks a lot better.

I saw this car some weeks ago. The first time I really liked the R8. It's similar to your's, but white with black wheels and without stripes. Great looking car.

I hope it will come in one or two years into my financial range.....

Not so sure about it, I'm not a fan of stripes or decals. They look good on the actual car (not so much in photos) but not in the rear. The rear is too small and those two stripes kind of mess the rear up, not a fan.

Green stripes? Now you are making fun of me. Smiley

I don't really need the clear bra, even for the track, never had real issues and stone chips are stone chips, always had them on cars, they never really bothered me. Also, like noone1 said, the car is Suzuka grey, I doubt that stone chips will be really visible on this car.

My wife and kids love the stripes though, so maybe I need to make a little concession here. Or I could find a designer who could actually find a more (visually) acceptable solution. The stripes and the clear bra were over 1000 EUR, so it is a pity to remove them but since I didn't pay for this stuff, I don't really care.

Btw: I have to correct the MSRP of the car. Just received the original "bill", the car has a MSRP of 213000 EUR. Wow. Fully loaded, event he carbon engine bay stuff I thought is not in it (I didn't pay attention to the engine bay when I checked out the car), is there. Quite a lot of money for an Audi but I actually "paid" 20% less, so... Smiley Smiley

Oh, I like this one a lot, thanks for sharing. The black wheels look much better but I can always paint them if the titanium color bothers me. I want to get new tires when I pick up the car (this is a 330 kph car and I don't know what the previous drivers did with that car...), so maybe I get the rims painted in black with that occasion. I will see... Smiley

You'd be surprised how attractive the prices and lease offers are, I was quite baffled.

In the official Audi used cars database, there are basically new cars with little mileage (500-4000 km) and a new MSRP of over 210k EUR for 170k EUR and less. Even found a car for 156k EUR...from an official Audi dealer. Amazing prices, I think they have trouble selling them or Audi just wants to move them fast, I don't have a clue.

Lamborghini Huracan customers can only dream of such prices, the lease offer for a basically identical Huracan from the same dealer was DOUBLE the amount for the R8 V10 Plus. Ouch. Also, even used prices are still way too high, despite the fact that the MSRP of a Huracan isn't much higher (base price is 201750 EUR for a Huracan, 190000 EUR for the R8 V10 Plus). Quite weird.

Also, the R8 is kind of "socially" acceptable if you don't really choose a flashy color like yellow or red or that flashy blue.

Today I will drive the car again for a couple of hours, can't wait. Unfortunately the weather isn't too good, lots of rain. Smiley

    great choice RC!!!! congrats!!!

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

IMHO the back wheels ruin the car in this specific color combo.

but this exotic is socially acceptable!!!!!:::)))

That is so true. To most people that's just another Audi. They have no idea it's a close cousin of Hurracan.

One reason why the original R8 sold so well, socially acceptable badge on the hood.

    Again, thanks guys.
I know, I know...an Audi? Please do me the favor and drive one, you'll understand why. It surprised me as well!

Btw: I noticed that the laser headlights, the Magnetic Ride (adaptive chassis) and the sport exhaust are missing from the USA Audi R8 configurator. Strange...

The laser lights aren't legal in the US, and the FDA (which has jurisdiction because they are lasers) doesn't seem to be in a hurry to approve them, the last I read about this.

This is very unfortunate. I had the chance to drive the car at night and the light is...how to put it...out of this world. Seriously! Completely new dimension of light and night visibility quality.

Could you elaborate a little on this RC? I'd be curious to hear a comparison between HID, LED, and now Laser.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

RC, congrats, the car looks fantastic, enjoy it to the full! kiss

Feel free to open a new AMG GT thread if you deem it necessary!
