The prototype looks great! So much more aggressive with that front bumper and blade and the rear wing with the little duck tail below.

@Boxster Coupe GTS: the photoshop seems to be from Auto Bild, so I don't think the information is that reliable.

I personally hope for a turbocharged flat 4 as I like turbo engines, but at least let's hope this is the test mule of a car that will turn into production soon.

6 cyl NA boxer and PDK a la GT3 only. Got this info today from my P source.

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

If they give it the close ration gearbox from the GT3 it will be a screamer with 'just' 400 HP.  The current Cayman hits 85MPH! in second gear at redline with a 7speed PDK.  Lots of room for improvement.  Imagine the extra push if they took that down (2nd gear top speed) to 65MPH or just over 100KMH.  Given that the PDK shifts quickly who cares so much about the earlier shift point.  (and bump 1st from 50MPH down to 35 or 40).  Gearing in the Cayman and Boxster is crazy tall!  Perhaps the cheapest way to keep it behind the 911 and still use powerful engines.

    I heard MT only :)

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

IF your info is accurate Porsche will sell only about 100 GT4s since price will nbe pretty steep..

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

Yes, it will cost almost like a GT3 and it will be engineered with precision to fit the niche below the GT3. My guess is it will perform equal to 991 with -20mm and some sporty options.

    The predicatbility of Porsche marketing.

...that's what I would expect as well, meaning, put the 3,4l to 360hp and call it the "sporty cayman with the new aerokit and modified PDK" aka "Cayman GT4" and let people argue whether the hefty extra you pay over a Cayman GTS with a little less performance would be worthwhile...oh boy...I guess I shut up here...still, the front and the rear look the business, just imagine, how this would look with some livery on it, yummy....Smiley

Thanks, so what about the price?

    Below the base 911 Carrera?

My guess, between 911 S and GT3. With 400hp like the S and the PDK from the GT3 this car will not be a bargain.

    1) Cayman is already too expensive vs Boxster

    2) Porsche is master at overcharging for special cars

    Re: Porsche Cayman GT4...

There won't be any GT4 series, at least I wouldn't bet on it.

Never ever in this universum would Porsche create a version below the 911 line, which is more powerful than the base 911 model. Never ever

on a serious note, I can think of on example on the spot: the 924 Carrera GT was more powerful than the 911 SC at the time.

944 Turbo S was more powerful and faster in every metric than Carrera 3.2 also.

Yes, it is a fabricated constraint by the media and forums. I don't think it was even an intent from Porsche.

About time... Nice to see the naysayers corrected..  I remember Preuninger was quoted as saying that they had completed development of the super-cayman some time back, so I wonder if it might appear sooner than 2016.

Also a bit sad to see people moving straight to: "well, it'll be too expensive"!  Let's see.  The GT3 is a relative bargain compared to other 911s IMO.  No reason the same couldn't be true for this.  And no-one would cross-shop a C2S or C4S against a "GT" Cayman.

The GT3 appears better value to you because it offers what your care more for. For someone who cares about 2+2 seats, AWD, more comfortable suspension, all year round every day use, etc. the GT3 is not good value. On the contrary it offers less but cost more.

    I do agree that 99.99% would not cross-shop a GT4 for a C2S or C4S. I count myself to the 0.01% Smiley

Re: The Cayman GT4 Myth Has Started

    DaveGordon:

I remember RC himself confirmed this model was a 'go' in the depths of one of the threads here (GT3: official?).  Speculation no more!

Yeah, didn't he state something along the lines of NA 6 and 360 hp.

I know he has sources and has to protect those.  Maybe that is why he hasn't posted in this thread.

I forgot: No 4-cyl. for the 911 but I'm afraid Boxster and Cayman drivers won't be happy. angry

Speaking of Cayman: Cayman GT4 seems to be a sure thing.

The turbo motors will make for a huge performance boost here at high altitude.

RC- What are your rumors or guesses at the specification for a Cayman GT4?

Don't put your hopes up, there is a reason they call it GT4 and not GT3. Smiley

Auto Zeitung says GT4 will be Twin-Turbo Flat-6.  Do you agree?  Maybe same motor as facelift Carrera or Carrera S?

All I know is that it won't be a 4-cyl. Smiley Don't expect a huge power bump though (vs. the Cayman S). I heard something about 360 hp but as I said before, rumors need to be taken with a grain of salt. There is soooooo much going on at Porsche right now, I started to loose count. Smiley

From a production/profit point of view, using the 991 facelift engine for the Cayman GT4 would make A LOT of sense.

Re: The Cayman GT4 Myth Has Started

I don't know why I want this thread to stay alive Smiley ... From the past I know that all motorsport models are prepared, designed etc. in Weissach, therefore, there has never been a dedicated cayman for the track before (not counting the cayman cup series in Italia and others in the US etc.). If the rumours are correct (which they can't, because then they would not be rumours anymore - Sheldon rules - ) that the PDK of the GT3 is supposed to being used in the GT4 - has anybody heard of whether the rumoured "GT4" is actually being taken care of in Weissach ?

944 Turbo S was more powerful and faster in every metric than Carrera 3.2 also.

I sold my first Porsche, a "new tech " 1986 944 Turbo, which won every magazine comparo back then vs the "old tech  " 3.2 Carrera  for a 1987 911 3.2 after 1 yr because the former was , to me,  soul less.

911 was not the 15 model cash cow range back then as it has become ....in fact many within Porsche wanted to drop it, feeling it was outdated and expensive to build and would never meet future emissions and safety regs, therefore the 944Turbo was allowed to beat it in order to  allow its two front engined cars , 944 and 928 to carry the brand into the future . The 911 was thought to be a cranky dangerous throwback with an aging clientele and not current enough for the emerging techie yuppie buyers.  We know how that worked out and explains why the Cayman is kept at arm's length today, because it is more like a better 911 in many sporting metrics.
